Do you use any herbs or such for Cures/healing?

I myself have found I like Colloidal Silver. A friend of my SIL's Makes it herself and I have found so far its great for healing cuts or infections. For instance I had a infection on my finger from a Ripped cuticle and It was VERY sore and inflamed. I sprayed the colloidal silver on the area a few different times one day and then put a bandaid over it and the next day it was like It had never been there. Even the skin was closed over the raw skin and there was NO pain at all. Then I had a ingrown toe nail and again It was SO and Inflamed. Most of the toe was red. I sprayed the toe with the colloidal silver a few times and then the next day it was Mostly better. It did take 2 days before the paid was Totally gone with that one but it was worse then the finger one. I plan to continue to use the colloidal silver on any cuts/infections. I have researched the net and found it fights a lot of other stuff as well.

Is there anything you use herbal or home remedy stuff that you would swear by?

i want to be more herbal - that colloidal silver sounds so neat!

I love growing lavender, and I keep some in my dresser drawers.

We also keep some lemon thyme in one of our bottles of olive oil.

I just had to LOL when I read this because it reminded me of the dad in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" when he was dousing everyone with Windex!

Back on topic, I use my aloe plant topically for sunburns and cuts/scrapes. I also drink some chamomile tea when I have an upset stomach. When I feel a cold coming on, I do suck on vitamin C/zinc drops as they help soothe my throat, although I don't know if you would consider that herbal. Other than that I can't really think of anything else.

As a pharmacist's wife, I do need to give my little public service announcement about using herbal remedies--make sure that if you are taking prescription medications that you let your doctor or pharmacist know which herbal remedies you are using, as some may interact adversely or cause medication to be ineffective.

Okay, argyria scares me, so no silver here. I dislike the taste of chamomile, but it's wonderful used to draw out infections -- my mother's friend used it to clear up eye infections, and that works on people and animals, since it doesn't sting. I've used it on a cat's abscess when we couldn't get antibiotics into him, too. Honey on a burn that's cool enough to be exposed to air tends to keep it from blistering. Echinacea's good when you think you might be getting sick, but by the time you know you're sick, I don't find it does much. And yeah, zinc's good there too. Slippery elm's good for sore throats. I've used Rescue Remedy on cats, but don't find it does much for me. There are some specifically girly remedies, too, but those are probably TMI for here.

We use herbal remedies on our horses. Dandelion Leaves for diarrhea, ground up Chaste Tree Berries for mares with high hormone levels and difficulty monthly cycles during breeding season, Rose Hips for just about anything that ails ya, etc. The horses are incredibly responsive to a very small amount -- generally 1-2 tablespoons per day for a 1,000 pound horse (depending on the ailment).

We purchase all of our bulk herbs at discounted price through this co-op... it is also a good resource for researching: Bulk organic herbs, spices, teas & essential oils - Frontier Natural Products Co-op

What I want to say for humans and for animals (!) is that dosing can be very difficult and so some research with a legitimate herbal expert or site (like the one at the link above!) would be in order BEFORE starting any extended treatment (ie red rice yeast, etc.) or combining with prescription meds.

My humble opinion is that even though the herbs work, I'd really approach any herbal remedies very cautiously.

I think thats good advice, because the herbal industry is largely unregulated (like by the FDA), and some scary stuff can happen...remember that stuff that was causinng peoples hearrts to race, I think it was in a diet pill (was it Ma Huanng or something)
I know in Chinatown, the Chinese apothecaries sell all sorts of herbs. I would trust one of these people before anyone else in the herbal field, because Chinese medicine has been around for thousands of years. They sell some dried herbs that cost hundreds of dollars per ounce, but I have never tried using one(Chinese apothecary), just looked around (very interesting)

For ingrown toenails & other infections, I use a remedy my mom used for years on us kids. Break an egg (save the yolk; too expensive to waste!), pull the lining out of the shell and plaster it slimy side down on the infection. Cover with a bandage. This will draw out the infection. You won't use the entire lining, so put the remaining shell in a tightly covered container to use for another application.

I ran this by a pediatrician a few weeks ago and he agreed that it works very well. Just a smaller version of an old time poultice. I swear by this method. My kids hate the slime factor, but they know it works and it's not painful to apply.
