| Update: Lake Delton (Wisconsin Dells) is gone!
I am just in absolute shock. Lake Delton, WI, which is part of the Wisconsin Dells is totallly gone. I am speechless and feeling so bad for those folks who have resorts, and businesses that depend on the income from the tourist season. Beautiful vacation homes being washed away! Absolutely amazing. Surprisingly, no one was hurt. I was just planning our trip there on Saturday, last night, and was planning on the Tommy Bartlett show as part of our visit..not now. The water show is totally cancelled (of course) but the owner did say he is brining in people to do a stage and air show. Absolutely amazing resilience in such a hard, hard time. The worst part? None of these owners of the homes or businesses have flood insurance. They are supposedly NOT in a floodplain. My best friend lives in Charles City, Iowa and the town is shut off right now because of flood damage. It is the hardest hit in the area. Bridges are closed, town is flooded AND they lost a landmark 100 year old suspension bridge.

I hope this is not a silly question, but can the refill lake delton? Did a dam break? I live in GA and we are in a really bad draught. the weather is so hot like it should be in august. What a mess. I don't even want to see my water bill this month. I feel terrible for the people who have lost their homes and do not have flood insurance.

No, the dam didn't break. The water actually just got "too full" and created it's own path to the Wisconsin River via a forest and roadway that were in between it and the Wisconsin River! They are definitely already talking about refilling it, and from what a lot of people are saying, they may be back in busines by August. needing etiquette advice here, do you think it is rude to call up some of those resort owners and ask for a discounted rate on an overnight stay?

Wow. Watched the video, and it's almost unbelievable that a 250 acre lake can drain in a short period of time. I hope they are able to refill it, but one man they interviewed said that if it is not filled in the next two weeks, he is doubtful it will ever be filled. ![]() We were planning to go late July/early August. I wonder if things will be operating in a normal summer fashion. Ohhgod, if you do go soon, give us an idea of how the flooding is affecting The Dells.

Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois are saturated. Lake Delton is gone. Gays Mills a small community that was flooded out last year will most likely not survive. Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo are all in dire straights right now. The Mississippi is as high as I have seen it in 15 years. Many of my friends and coworkers have major flood damage. Today was sunny and beautiful, alot of farmers finally got a chance to get an upclose look at their fields and it is not a pretty site. Corn fields have standing water and look like mini lakes. Thank goodness today was sunny and bright with no rain.

Tonight the Dells and Madison are expected to get more rain, possibly 2-3 inches. Parts of the interstate were closed down today due to flooding, they mentioned this is a first. Don't know how much more rain we can tolerate! |

I was in Jefferson WI today, and the dam broke there yesterday. The town, I guess, is flooded. I only was at the Wal Mart and came up 26 from Milton, but I was told that 26 is closed down due to flooding and half the town is cut off. OMG.. This is just nuts. We ARE going to the Dells on Saturday. I will give an update when I get back. Gotta love that Midwestern perseverance! Give us Beer and a BBQ pit to fix up some brats and all is good.

The rides were all open, and all tours were on. Tommy Bartlett did only a stage show, since their water is gone. The River is HIGH. The upper boat tour is shortened a bit because the docks are under water and at Stand Rock landing you can't go exploring because the docks are under water. The Original Ducks was also changed, but they did take us by the devastation and where CTY RD A was washed out. It was amazing to see the devastation. The Lake is so completely almost dry. The biggest attraction seemed to be a bridge over Dells Parkway that goes right over what was Lake Delton. It was the most striking picture of the Lake being empty. Absolutely amazing. But yeah, I recommend. Not too bad at all. We're going back up July 4th Weekend, and possibly sometime again before July 1st. Today we only spent $102 for all 7 of us, which consisted of 4 Margaritas and a nice dinner at Uno Pizzeria. I packed our food in coolers, and we used our Summer Kick off Books for free attractions. We rode the Ducks, Lower and Upper Dells tours, three of our boys did the jet boats, Tommy Bartletts Exploratory and Knuckleheads Entertainment Center. Was a fun and VERY cheap day!
