Just wanted to tell you all

that this board has been a great place of help at times. It has been a place where I could come and receive help and support for day to day problems. This has been a place where I could always come in a time of need for a smile or a pat on the back. Some of the advice was tough love but it helped.

Lately it has become a place of ALOT of hostility and threats. Due to threats that were recieved yesterday in a post of mine regarding grammar, I will be leaving here. It is sad because the advice is terrific however it is not worth it. I should not have to worry about posting something for fear of threats. I find that they are totally uncalled for. I have seen members attacked for literally no reason and ignored it. I always thought that those who were mean and rude to others actually had low self esteem and did it to make themselves feel better. However I will not be part of a community that allows people to openly threaten others.

It is also a shame that many people have gotten run off this board because of a select few who chose to be the wise ones and make the comments that are really unneccesary.

Good luck to you all!! To those that feel the need to verbally abuse others, or threaten virtual strangers, I do hope that you receive the help that you so desperatly need.

oh good grief.
I read that post---what threats were there?

Why bring attention to you leaving? If people care they will notice you are gone/not posting, and will either ask or contact you. Good Grief....do you just need the attention, people publicly asking you to stay or what?

I was in that thread, and really, I saw no threats. Honestly, what I saw was someone looking down their nose at others, but, hey, that's just how I saw it.

Perhaps it is best for everyone if you depart the boards.

Seriously!? Could someone PLEASE tell me what threats were made in that thread?

I'm not being snarky, I'm not being catty---I *thought* I had read the postings and didn't see any threats.

Staying neutral here. I didn't see any threats either, but I know that sometimes people send *interesting* PMs. If there were any threats, they could have been private.

I PM'd you
That's another mystery to me....why would you post in a thread to tell someone that has left that you PM'd them?

And before anyone gets their big girl panties in a knot--this is not directed at any one person. I have seen it many times before.

If a person wants to publicly declare their support for a departing poster, wouldn't it be better if they did it publicly?

Now, now.....take that talk over to the Election board. Seriously, tho, you better have a tough skin over there But, the beauty of it is that posters over there seem to be able to say what they have to say, and move on. I'm sure we insult each other over there. Do we carry that baggage from thread to thread??? take it personally??? NOPE. It's a beautiful thing

First off there were No threats! Maybe she saw my post sounds like you put yourself on a pedestal threatening or the poster who said Keep Digging Which I believe the poster was referring to her writing skills

I always wondered how we'd all be if we met in person together! Do you think we'd talk the way we do here on the boards or would it be different? I think it's easier for everyone to talk tough and say things on a board when you're not face to face with the people. Sometimes it can get crazy on the boards but I think you have to just not let it get to you and remember it's just a board. I think a lot of times things are said just to see how much a rise they can get out of the other people.

I've missed all the 'drama' because I took a break from the boards over the weekend and missed everything. I don't know what was said. I tried reading thru some of the posts but didn't see anything that was enough to make someone leave (unless it's already been deleted).

I do have a question, though. I hardly ever hit the 'log out' button when I leave the boards and go to another site or log off my computer. Does anyone know if the green light stays on even after someone has left the site? Just wondering. If it does stay on, I dont' want people to think that I'm on here all the time! Maybe I'll have to start logging out! I just find it easier when I do come back to the site to just click on it and it's there without having to log back in.

But I do wish that people wouldn't say they're going to leave because if they feel they've been harassed, then the people that they think is harassing them will only do it more! Just more fuel for the fire!

mom2twins2....you missed the boat. The origimal thread was deleted by the OP. I hate it when that heppens and you can't *catch up* on what's been going on.

I also leave myself logged in all day, whether I'm here or not. It's much easier to check in on things occasionally. The point, however, was that the person was LEAVING. If you are *leaving this board*, you would probably log off and not log back in. JMO

I never log out either.....does that mean I'm ALWAYS here? LOL....oh well, no place I'd rather be!

If Julie were to still be around, I'd tell her that I'm sorry if she truly did receive threats. I didn't read anything that sounded threatening to me but that's just me. I'd also tell her that I hope she can find another board to receive the helpful advice and wonderful interaction that she's received here though I've heard and seen that other boards are MEAN compared to MC so good luck finding something better. And finally, if she really received threats, seems to me the public service announcement of her leaving would be the last thing to do as she wouldn't want to bring more attention to herself. Again, that's just me though. I know if someone threatened me, I'd be gone too quick to post anything.

Exactly! So her green light is on -- so is she 'here' or not? I just came back on the site right now after posting an hour or so ago (I think). I wonder if my green light was still on the entire time because I didn't log out. (Maybe it's like a refrigerator light!)

I wish someone could come up with the thread that was deleted so those of us who missed it could see what the OP is talking about! Gosh, seems like I miss out on all the good stuff! Or maybe I'm in on the good stuff and don't take it personally. I don't know.

I never log out either. You only show as online when you have a MC window open. If your MC window(s) is/are closed then you do not show as online. HTH clarify.

FYI - it is the OP's perogative to delete / remove a thread if they so chose.

So if she wants to come and check the other boards her light would still be on, Is that Right ?

There ARE other boards on MC One could still go to the other boards and not read or post here.

When I signed up on MC it was for the coupons and bargain shopping!

I think it should be an OP's prerogative to delete a thread they started.....now with that being said....it's also easier to delete a thread then claim that someone threated you when no one can go back and look. No saying it happened....but it could...hypothetically

It certainly could.

While I agree MC is set up so that an OP can delete an entire thread, I don't think that's right. I think they should be able to delete their own posts, but not posts from other people. I think that's a major flaw in the system here.

I'm not sure that's quite right. I think it has to do with activity at the boards - posting, reading, moving from forum to forum.

I've had people PM me and were surprised I didn't answer right away, but I appeared "online". But I wasn't at my computer anymore, I had stepped away.

I THINK it's after 10 or 15 minutes from your final "activity" that the light goes out and you show "offline". I thought I had read it somewhere, but it was ages ago.

Those are some great pics guys! Stay, Go, Lurk, Post, Don't Post....... It's everyone's choice and if something bothers you this much, then go. Didn't read the deleted thread and now am quite curious. Which one of you chickies copied it for entertainment before it was deleted? Stuck at home and need entertainment and YES, seeing this all unfold is entertaining in a way

If you were threatened on the boards, then leaving is giving who ever threatened power over you. Why would you give them the power? If someone chose to do that to me, I would be a thorn in their ass and call them out until I got a big, loud public apology.

We could invite her over to TLJ......

On second thought........if she can't take it here, she would croak over there.

Julie's been here a few times since she claimed she was leaving (green light spotted by a few people!) and hasn't bothered to detail even one of those supposed threats. We all know she checked this thread and we all know she wasn't threatened.

Why do people always have to slam the door when they leave? We get it; you're leaving. Bah bye.

Hate to give her an "out" but, I'm in a giving mood today......she posted she was leaving this board, which I took as "The Cafe". She has posted on the LTS board or something. I'm sure she has still been reading The Cafe, but, I would doubt she would reply to anything here, as she would have to explain these supposed threats, and everyone knows THERE WERE NONE. Not to mention, I don't think she drummed up the support she was looking for, no one begging her to stay, etc. Truth is, it's a message board full of virtual strangers.....we're not that invested in each other to really care if someone leaves. Sorry, it's how it is.
