With a few threads floating around from yesterday and today mentioning people sending "nasty" PM's...it got me thinking are there such things or are they an urban legend???? I have been coming here for quite awhile, and I am sure I have said or posted something that someone else didn't agree with, but I have never received a nasty PM. On the other hand, I have on quite a few occasions gotten friendly or considered PM's asking how something went or they liked what I posted. I know there are a few posters her that people think they are being snarky or rude, but I do admit I find their comments amusing and often catch myself LOL. So have you ever sent or received a nasty PM??

Have received and sent some(usually in response to those received).

I've even gotten the ones commenting on how ugly and/or fat and/or stupid my children are.

I don't know if you'd call it a nasty PM or not, but a few years ago I receiving one I considered quite threatening. It was from a poster that I knew hated me and s/he made it clear she knew where I lived.

I notified the mods, but, as far as I know, nothing was done and the poster stayed. For all I know, she's still around under an alias.

Make no mistake, there are crazies on these boards.

*sigh*--I'm trying desperately to get motivated to work, but I just can't and I'm haunting these boards!

I don't think I've ever gotten a nasty PM. There was a rash of alias posters sprouting up that were ripping into me and a few other posters. I know there are people on this board who don't care for the way I post or some of the things that I post, and that's fine by me. But, gee, have the balls to post under your "real" user name, will ya???

I've never sent or received any nasty PMs, only nice ones. I think many times comments are made about mean or threatening PMs just to stir the pot or to get attention. If I received a nasty PM, I'd copy/paste it in a thread for all to see.
I wanted to add that I believe the nasty PMs exist, I've just never received them. And I believe that some people say they're receiving them just to stir the pot/get attention. But I don't think that's always the case! I believe most who get them, don't mention it until well after the situation has died down.

Nasty PM's certainly do exist. It is cyber bullying. I have been the recipient of many such PMs (Big surprise there) People have threatened me. They have threatened my children. They have told me to go blank blank blank. They have tried to get me removed as a moderator.

Forunately - things are much better now that the truly "out there" ones are gone.

I would bet that most mods at large membership boards have received them. It comes with the territory, I guess.

I didn't receive anything threatening though, just nasty in other ways.


Those things are flippin' farkin' ridiculous. This is a BIG part of the reason I can't wait until the internet isn't so anonymous and people WILL be held accountable for the things they say. Unfortunately, they can get away with it now, but I have faith. Stalking laws and sexual harassment laws weren't always in place, either.

I recieved a nasty pm from someone who considers themselves the MC posting police. She wanted to know why I was online each day but didn't post....What a nutcase. That's right....if you are reading this and you know who you are...you are truly a nutcase. Get a life.

Unfortunately, this same poster repped me a while ago and then derepped me because of some crap that happened on another board. The world is full of crazies.

I have never sent a nasty pm except maybe I might have to my policer, I can't remember. If I had something nasty to say to someone, I would say it to their "face", as it were.

If I'm allowed to speak for my fellow crazies on here, composing a nasty PM is a wasted effort. If you want to be snarky and get under someone's skin, wouldn't you do it out in the open?

This is not to imply that I personally set out to get under people's skin....just that I'm one of the crazies.

The one I got was intended to scare me -- if she'd posted that info on the boards, I believe management would have had to ban her because there would have been an outcry. As it was, it was swept under the rug.

I hasten to add that this was under the old management.

I've never sent one. I don't think I've gotten one, unless it was when there was a YFB. I've gotten nasty reps though. And frankly, Cindy is THE sweetest person (on and off the board). Can't believe anyone would do that. Oh wait. I think I did send a pm yelling at April once or twice when she was a mod waaaaaaay back when. LOL It's cause I lurve her. But I was never nasty. Just mad. In fact, it's been a while. Might need to send her another one just because.

I was de-repped once with a nasty note...and I got several *interesting* PMs about Secret Buddies. That was quite a while ago...and I don't think she's with us any more.

I find it amazing that quite a few people have received nasty PM's but according to the poll no has never sent one.....well 1 person has sent one and received one. I guess they are choosing not to vote......
