Major Iowa Flooding-Cows on porches!

It's crazy in Iowa!!! I've been watching all day coverage of the Eastern Iowa floods. Cedar Rapids, Iowa had a semi trailer floating down the downtown streets, a phone pole got pulled down during live coverage. There are refrigerators, furniture, etc... floating through the streets. They are on a drink only order for the water-no showers, wash, etc... Fish are now swimming in the streets downtown. The ABC affiliate has been on generator power all day. The town of Palo, NW of CR, is shut down. The crest rate is going to break all kinds of records-much worse than the "100 year" flood of 1993. The University of Iowa is starting to close buildings-Hancher Auditorium, Art Center, Main Library, evacuating Hawkeye Ct apartments, etc.... I can't understand why Geraldo isn't here!!!!!! lol
It's getting scary in Eastern Iowa!!!!

Goodness -- that's horrible. I've been watching what coverage we have here of it and I cannot imagine what these poor people (and animals) are going thru.

Cows on porches?? I do feel sorry for the animals, too.... I mean, they really don't understand what's going on.

I've often worried about the poor animals during floods like these, I'm thinking I don't want to know.

I talked w/ a friend earlier this morning who works in Burlington. Some parts of downtown are flooded & there have been a few evacuations, but I don't think it's as bad '93 yet. It's raining again today and the forecast calls for more rain through the weekend.

Also read an article that indicated I-80 is closed from just east of Iowa City all the way to Davenport because of the flooded Cedar River.

It's actually closed from DesMoines to Davenport. The poor truckers are being rerouted an hour to the north to Waterloo and then over to Dubuque and then an hour back down to I80 at Davenport. That is a lot of fuel and time. Cedar Rapids is running out of water to drink. Only 1 city well is working. It is like the old saying "Water water everywhere and not a drop to drink." Thankfully it was a dry day, tommorrow does not look good though. I have many friends who have lost everything. But believe it or not they are right there helping others so they don't lose everything too.

I-80 is only actually closed on a small stretch in Cedar County where the river has washed up over the road.

You are correct on the actual area closed, however they are rerouting all of the semis up through Dubuque. The traffic up there is horrific right now. today there was a line of 18 semis at one stop light.
