Does your doctor give you coupons for prescriptions?

Every time (not often) that my doctor gives me a prescription, he sends his nurse into the other room and she brings back a coupon, online sign-up for coupons, or other etc. for whatever script it is. His coupon files are up to date and organized. I love it!

Does your doctor do this or have I found a needle in a haystack with mine?

I changed doctors a couple of years ago and my new one is like that. He always gives you a 2 week sample and will give you a coupon if he has one. My parents have been going to the same doctor for over 30 years and they have never even gotten a sample from him.

That would freak me out a little bit - as though he's pushing a particular drug because he gets some sort of freebies from the pharmaceutical company for pushing their products.

My doctor has been doing that for years. She will give us samples (Now that my dd is on her own insurance, she gets them too). If it has a rebate, she will give us that. Some companies have continued to send us rebates. It has helped a lot because we take a lot of medicine.

Never got a coupon from my Dr's. My surgeon is great though, funny, has a great memory (I think they are suppose to) a couple of months back I needed some antibiotics and he told me that Publix had free antibiotics now, the only have a handful they give away free.. and he prescribed one of the kind they give away. I thought that was neat!

I am the one that gets the freebies... Nowhere on the coupons do any of them mention his name, although I guess they could be linked back to him via the prescription? I guess ANY coupon for anything probably carries some sort of tracking kickbacks for someone? I honestly don't know but I do know that I'm not freaked out by it. These are common medications and he only has prescribed AFTER I've tried every other natural alternative.

Our doctors at the clinic I work at always gives coupons. We only carry samples of brand medications. Once a medication goes generic there are no samples for that medicine. If the drug rep has coupons for their particular medication, I give a coupon as well if the doctor orders that medication. If the patient comes in and asks for samples, I always give a month or two supply of the medication. Some nurses act like it's their medication they're giving out but most of our patients are elderly and either do not have insurance or eventually fall into the do-nut hole and pay out of their pocket. I've even had patients tell me if it wasn't for me giving them samples, they'd have to choose between a/c, eating supper, etc. The samples are there for the patient. There's no need for the medicine sitting there and expiring if someone can use it.

the rx company still gets you to try their rx...its a lure IMO....they should just lower the darned price of the drugs..pharm. reps are like sales people, they meet with the docs, give them free tissues, pens and better stuff, and even better bonuses if they pass out a certain number of rx's per month
I know at least four pharm. reps...one is a licensed pharmacist in the UK, and has to take a test here to get her license
