Smile Today is our FIRST anniversary--life is good!

David and I are celebrating our first wedding anniversary today, and I am so excited. A lot has happened since June 16, 2007. We got married in an incredible ceremony/party with my friends and family but then...my son (who has two young children) found out his wife was seeing someone else and wanted a divorce, David broke his arm playing softball and was out of work for a while, and, on April 16, he was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. He was bleeding internally and spitting up blood. Sure, I knew he had a drinking problem when I married him, but I was going to change him! LOL! The wonderful and powerful Marilou was going to CHANGE A MAN! LOL!!!!! What really happened is that God stepped in and said, "Enough of this, David. Life is a changing NOW!" :-) The doctor told him that if he didn't quit drinking, he would be dead in a year--pretty strong words. On April 18, David went to AA and has been totally sober for two months today!!! I am going to Ala-non twice a week, and David goes daily, sometimes twice a day, to AA. So,--for today--LIFE IS GOOD! I had learned so much about myself this past year, and I'm finally making steps to seize each moment. Thanks for letting me share! I keep a lot of things to myself, but this may give someone, who needs it, a boost. Life is full of wonders! --Marilou

Congratulations! If you put a piece of wedding cake in the freezer for today don't I repeat DO NOT under any circumstances allow it to completely thaw out or you will be eating the driest sawdust you ever ate!

Congratulations to both of you and he is a lucky man to have your support while he is on the road to recovery. I truly believe it takes team effort to overcome such a demon as alcoholism. Have a wonderful and relaxing day.

We will be celebrating our 25th next month. I feel blessed to have a great man.

Congratulations on your first year together as husband and wife. It sounds like he's finally on the right path and is very lucky to have a supporting wife. I wish him great success in his recovery. And, I wish you both happiness together in the years to comes.

Congratulations Marilou! You have every reason to be proud of your hubby...He is sober and it's only going to get better as long as he stays on the right path...My father was told the same exact thing as your DH...he would have one year to live if he kept drinking...This was back in February 1989...My Dad hasn't had a drink since and he's doing great...I thought that he would have health problems because of all the abuse he put his body through, but no, nothing. He's going to be 70 in August and no health problems at all. He doesn't go to AA and I don't know how he does it without a support system, but that's his business. The bottom line is he's not drinking anymore. As a recovering alcoholic myself, I'm so happy that you're going to Al-Anon...That way you can understand more what he's going through and get the tools to cope if you need them...You guys sound like you are going to stay very happy...Congratulations and if you ever need to talk, feel free to PM me. I've been on both sides (Al-Anon with my Dad and AA myself). ~Lisa
