Family under water.

Just got the phone call I have been dreading. My family lives in Burlington Iowa and my sister just called to say my 2 nephews and fanilies lost there homes. They are under water. What is happening with all this crazy weather. Have a question. My mom and dad are buried out there and are under water. Does anything happen because of it to the graves. Need some prayers for the people of Iowa. nancy

I am so sorry to hear about your relatives.
I don't know what happens to graves under flood waters. But I just wanted to send you a HUG.

Sending prayers for all of the people in the flooded areas.

Nancy, I'm so sorry! What a scary time for you and your family. You'll be in my prayers.

I'm pretty sure that the way they set up coffins now (in those deep one-coffin cement vaults below each grave marker) that there is no undoing of anything. I hope that puts your mind at ease.

Our area is just starting to recede. A friend of mine has 4 feet of water in his home! Hang in there.

I'm sorry to hear that they've lost their home to the flood. But, I'm glad to hear it wasn't worse. (Only material things.) I know a lot of families have been devastated by the weather lately. Praying for relief and a quick recovery.

Nancy,

First of all, I'm so sorry and will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. My best friend works in Burlington, but lives on the Illinois side. She opted not to go to work Monday or Tuesday. Sure enough, the levee in Gladstone broke, so she would have been stuck on the IA side. Her boyfriend got across the bridge ten minutes before they closed it down. He's staying with friends until things settle down.

No doubt it's a huge mess up there. Reminds me of my sandbagging days back in '93. Ugh!

Deerekid, My mom and dad lived in gladstone. I didnt think anyone else lived there-its so small. My nephews that lost there homes was in Gulfport(town of a million bars) The rest of my family are in Burlington but so far are safe. alot of sandbagging being done. I remember 93 my brother lived across the burlington bridge and the national guard had to evacuate them. I`m there everyother year. This was my off year. I saw the waterlines of the 93 flood in the reatruant right near the bridge. My sister is sending pic to me every day. Where are you now? nancy

I am so sorry to hear of your relatives and the flooding. I hope it starts to recede soon. How awful ! I do not know what the damage to graves is..more than likely the cement casket liners will prevent much damage. Hugs to you !
