Vandalism!!

I am sooo agravated! Last Friday my daughter spent the night with one of her friends. She woke up to find a brick thrown thru her windshield!! And actually she was driving her sister's car, which made it worse. I jumped to the conclusion that it was her jerk boyfriend, whom she was trying to break up with. However, when we called the police, and then in the paper and on the local news, apparently in that area there was a big rash of vandalism. They said 50 plus cars were vandalized, 2 of them cop cars. But that doesn't help me. Our deductible is $500, and it was $187 to fix it. With all the penny pinching I have been trying to do, it is really aggravating. Of course the 2 DD's are arguing over who's fault it is, so I end up writing the check. Man, sometimes it just seems like no matter how hard you try, it's 2 steps forward, 3 steps back. I am so agitated!!!!! Sorry yall, just need to vent!!! AARRGGHH!!!!

Here in Ma, we don't have a deductible for glass/windshield damage. The insurance pays in full 1st dollar. I didn't realize it is different other places. Sorry to hear about it.

did you actually call insurance company?? Vandalism falls under comprehensive, and there is no deductible ...same as if you hit a deer or a tree fell on your car, or a rock on the highway smashed the windshield...good thing you called the police, because you have a report.
If you dont have comprehensive, save your receipts in case they catch this guy...he will be required to pay restitution.
comprehensive is different than collision, so please call

I live in Ma also. Last year I was driving down the road and my windshield just cracked and kept cracking so I had this huge crack from top to bottom and side to side it looked like a cross. I called the insurance company and they told me we get 1 free windshield a year. Im not sure if that is the case where you live as well but it is worth a shot.

In PA, you have a deductible on comprehensive. I think insurance rules are different for every state.

For comprehensive and collision it's not rules by the state, it's what the consumer chooses. The comprehensive coverage can be no deductible or any deductible amount your choose. The higher the deductible the lower the premium is.
I've never heard of the 1 windshield per year. Does the state pay the bill for this? Sounds like an unnecessary expense for the taxpayers if the state pays the bills for this.

If this is an insurance company perk, I'm sure you're paying for it in your premiums. We also used to have rock chips fixed for free. However, it was a State Farm perk not a state insurance rule. I have looked online at a couple of states insurance requirements and as far as I can tell, the only part of automobile insurance governed by the state is that you have to carry liability. Nothing is said about the rules for comprehensive or collision coverages. I would guess that if a person is getting windshield repairs for nothing then you either have a no deductible comprehensive coverage or there is a clause in your insurance policy that covers this.

I hate it when that unexpected expense comes along. It blows the budget for the rest of the month.

That really, really sucks! I can feel your pain ballmom.

We had a cracked windshield in dh car. It cost us $100 to get it fixed.

I had a barricade blow out in front of me in a storm that we were having and took out the front bottom of dh's car (Jaguar so they sit really low in the front). Cost $500 (Collision). I didn't feel that it should have been, since there was no way I could avoid it, just like a deer. My insurance rates went up, as well, and I was charged for an accident!

Dh hit a deer in the Grand Prix I had before this one, but the car was a company car. They didn't charge us a deductible for it and I don't know about our regular insurance carrier if we would be charged or not. Probably, though. We get dinged for EVERYTHING.

It just really is amazing how you pay so much for car insurance, and it just seems like you get nothing in return when it is needed (but higher premiums because you used them!)

According to the Massachusetts Division of Insurance, if an object damages your windshield, you are covered for this loss if you have comprehensive (other than collision) coverage on your vehicle.

The normal $300, $500 or $1000, or whatever you may have selected as your comprehensive coverage deductible, does not apply to a glass loss. You will be covered for the full amount of the loss without a deductible unless you opted for a $100 deductible for glass breakage when you started your comprehensive coverage.

If we have a comprehensive deductible of $250, replacement glass would not be covered under that amount, unless we have "full glass coverage" as well.

FGC costs less than $10.00 per year. Check with your insurance company to see if you have this supplement.

Good luck! That has to feel like the most unfair, out-the-window payment ever. Glad it wasn't higher, or that your DD didn't come out and discover it happening, things could have been much worse. (of course, it's easy for me to say - I know I'd be feeling just like you right about now, Ballmom!)

Ballmom, I know how frustrated you must be and I read your post on the cooking forum as well, but do your daughters know how hard you are busting your a## to keep things together? If I recall, they are a bit older-couldn't they step up to the plate and help you a bit more monetarily so you are not having to work all that overtime to support their extra expenses? Forgive me for stepping over the line here, but it's really not fair for you and the baby.

I know it looks that way sometimes. But you have to consider, on the days I work, they take turns dropping him off and picking him up from school, then bring him home, feed him, bathe him, and on most nights that I work put him to bed. I would have to find another job that didn't pay nearly as much if I didn't have them here taking care of the baby. As a nurse , I get shift differentials that reaaly make a difference. A while back I had a job offer with super hours 6 am to 2 pm, 5 days a week, no weekends. call, or holidays. But even without me making any less per hour (they were matching my current rate), the difference in the hourly rates just made a huge difference, one that my budget wouldn't allow. Sometimes I do get aggravated with them about things like that, but then I have to look at the big picture. By the way, good to hear from you Linny Bop!
