I saw this photo before and I was wondering if I would something that might have been photoshopped. Yes, no, maybe so?

According to a few sources it is real. Acutally not all that uncommone, just uncommon to have such a great photo of it.

snopes.com: Iowa Tornado

"Meteorologists who have viewed this image (as well as other photos and videos taken of the same storm) generally agree that it pictures a mesocyclone with a wall cloud..."
Still an awesome picture to look at.

I believe this was a mesocyclone, as well: Spotted ++ The focus is on you

That photo was taken August 16, '06.

Thanks for posting this. I had received the same photo in an e-mail and the person who sent it to me (this one must be going around now) said it was the tornado that hit the Boy Scout camp last week. I thought it probably wasn't but was too lazy to go to Snopes to find out.

It looks like something from outer space! How can something be so beautiful and yet so horrifying?

That really is one of the most amazing photos I have ever seen. Small town Iowa and a close-up of something we rarely see. It's neat how the American flag is blowing in the forefront of this photo as well.

Actually, it wasn't. The storm depicted in the photo was taken the night prior to the scout tragedy.

I initially thought it was photo-shopped because there is no debris flying around. It's an amazingly beautiful and haunting picture.
