How much would you charge for DVD's at a yard sale?

We are having a yard sale tomorrow and I am pricing everything tonight. We cleaned out the kids dvd's and tapes and I was wondering how much I should price them at?

I don't care about the VHS, they can be .50? How about $2 for DVD's? I was thinking that was cheap on say a Bambi dvd? Or some other good ones like The Incredibles?

What would you pay?

I just want to get rid of this stuff but I still would like to make some money!

If they're fairly recent or good ones, I'd start at 4-5.00 and give yourself room to dicker. If they're ancient or kiddie ones, 2-3.00.

Maybe you could do 5.00, 5 for 20.00 or something like that?

Would you actually PAY $5 for a dvd? I doubt I would pay more than $3 unless it was something I really wanted for my kids, but then again I'm cheap.

That's as cheap as they ever are at Blockbuster, so if it was something I wanted, I would. I wouldn't pay that for an old one or a kids one, though.

What tapes do you have?? DD just got a VCR and we need some tapes for her. Anything Disney, Blues Clues, Dora or Diego? I'll buy them and pay shipping.

I have found prices to vary around the country. At my friend's yard sale she could charge much more and the people didn't bargain much. They bought clothes for $5 and more.

At my sale I get a different group. Half will pay a little more but half insist on bargaining on my 25 cent items. They would grab a large group of nice items that I marked down to a quarter and angrily insist I take 10 cents each. Yard sales are interesting around here (I am near a jail and a county hospital, lol).
My favorite response lately to rude people is "Yes, you are right, that is too high a price. Don't buy it."

So my friend could charge more for DVD's and I charged maybe $2 the first day and lowered it the second day.
You will find what is best for your location. It is always a good idea to go higher and factor in bargaining. Give yourself a time where you go around and lower the prices.

If it's a TV show (like Dora, Sesame Street, Barney), etc. DVD, I would say $3. If it's a full-length movie (Finding Nemo, Incredibles, etc.), I would say $5. Movie DVDs are around $20 new, so $5 is 75% off retail. I would pay $5 for a movie DVD.

It does, however depend on your area -- I am in metro Atlanta where things tend to sell for higher prices than other areas.

I agree that it depends on your area. Around here, they'd probably go for a $1.00 or $2.00. VHS tapes probably about 50 cents. If you want to get rid of them and not have to bring them back inside the house afterwards or take them to Goodwill, I'd put a price on them that would move them.

Good luck on your yard sale. Hope you have good weather!!

No, not really anything newer, I think there was Fantasia, Aristocats, some Thomas the Tank, that sort of thing, nothing really good.

Thanks everyone for the advice, let's hope I don't come home with all of this CRAP!

Let's just say we had a good time!

The first customer was over half of my sales for the day. There wasn't much traffic and people would drive by and not even get out.

I did get rid of the really big things I brought, a kids porch swing, a dresser ( I gave away free to a friend who stopped) and an entertainment center for $5. We put half of it out for freecycle and then posted that on their site and a lot of it was gone before we left.

I only sold about 2 DVD's for $2 each and 3 VHS for .50 each. And my friend and I ended up trading a bunch of stuff too.

We did have fun though, but the work was not worth it. It just wasn't a good yard sale spot I guess.
