I Made Over $100 Today...

selling my old stuff on craigslist. I usually just give away books, clothes, purses, etc but with times they way they are I put stuff on craigslist. I put them on last night and today the phone calls and emails started rolling in.
I don't put my little rural town's name in I put the big town in and i meet them in a public parking lot somewhere. I met one guy at his work it was a safe situation.

I now am looking through my house for stuff to sell. I am telling you if you have stuff you bought on clearance to keep on hand for a gift or something you could make a profit. I was very fair with people and I will tell you I had a jacket I wore all winter and bought on B1G1F and sold it for $10. The original cost to me was $20.

So if some of you need some cash it's easier than having a yard sale really and you can make the appts all for one day like I did. I had to go to town anyway.

Now we can do something fun this weekend!

(I also took some books to the bookstore he paid me $3 each for two books that cost me $1 each from the bargain bin!)

That's GREAT!! It sure beats my yard sale this past weekend!
The only thing I sold on there was an oriental rug, it went quick and I got a lot of replies! I should try again........... The little stuff goes too?

Yes little stuff goes. I got money for pairs of sunglasses I would just give away. People sell stuff for one and two dollars. I found the best success with lots then people call and say they just want this and that and I say well I wanted to sell it all so they are not cheap with their offers. And I found the more pictures the better. I took pictures of books the front, the back and the pages from the open side.
I took pictures of the clothes and shoes from all angles. People like pictures. And I said "check out my other items and we can make a deal" and I alwyas list the price a little above what I would accept. I can do it from home!

I just went through my house with a fine tooth comb and pulled out all kinds of stuff. Because of today's money and the $200 I am getting from someone else for a bunch of clothes my husband and I have decided we WILL have a vacation this summer. We are going to get as much as we can selling stuff and my husband will clean the garage out and even if we have items for $1 or $2 or whatever as long as it's not out of my way it all adds up! And it's nice to see something in the savings account for vacation.

I am so excited I suggest everyone go through all your closets, shelves, kitchen, bedroom everywhere because literally what you don't want or need somebody out there MUST have LOL. Let's all have fun this summer!

I tried craigslist.. I listed it in my small town though... maybe I should try the next bigger town! I have a storage unit full of things.. like a side by side fridge, portable dishwasher, sewing machine, washer and dryer. I been trying to sell.

I did list my stuff on facebook.com and I got 1 reply from someone in CANADA! I felt very uneasy selling things like that to someone in another country so far away. So I told them nicely I would rather deal with someone locally.

Do you do cash only? I've often wondered about this aspect of Craigslist (getting paid safely!).

Thanks for the advice on CL.

I absolutely suffered through a garage sale last week. What a fiasco. So much work and prep and I made $40. Of course, I had sold all the good stuff on eBay already and made $120 profit there (after fees/postage).

Yes I do cash only and I have made a point of telling people on the phone that I go to the bank between transactions even if it's only a couple of dollars and if someone sounded fishy to me I would tell them that I do all my transactions parked in front of the police dept if they are honest they will feel safe and if they are not they won't want to meet me there.

I am very careful. You never know these days. I spent several hours last night posting things so hopefully this weekend people will buy.

EDITED to add: Since I live out of town I am telling people I either have to wait until other people call or I need to make $25 to justify a trip to town and they look at the stuff and come up with $25 they want and I STILL wait a little and made several trips in one!

I love Craigslist

I have sold a lot of stuff on there and you get so much more than selling at a yard sale. Around Xmas last year I posted all my daughters Little Tikes Stuff (Kitchen, doll layette, table and chairs and toy box) and just held out until I got the price I asked for. You always get people asking if you will take lower so just give yourself room to bargain when you post price. I always meet the people in public parking lot as well. I don't want strangers knowing where I live or coming to house when I am here with kids.
