I only have a few really close friends...I met my BFF when I was 6 years old, and I will be 40 next month. She is like a sister I never had, and I adore her.
She called me on Tuesday affternoon, to tell me she was really sick...I was at work and couldnt talk long, but she said she went to the emergency room the day before, and was told she had a middle ear infection, and she basically told me she was sicker than she had ever been. I told her I would call her the next day, hoping she would start feeling better (I worked alot of hours this week).
I left a message last night when I got home, and was woken up by a ringing phone at 3:30 am. Her BF called me to tell me she was rushed to and admitted to the hospital. She has double pneumonia and a 105 fever. I went to see her on my lunch today. She is delirious, coming in and out, oxy mask, iv's, the works. Her breaths are short little pants (you can see the mask fog a tiny bit with each breath,) her body is shaking.
Now I am shaking too. I have been crying, I am so scared for her. I called the hospital a few minutes ago and spoke to her mom, she is no better.
I dont know if she has viral or bacterial pneumonia. I posted a few weeks ago her partner at her beauty shop died of an aneurysm at age 41 in Phila judging cosmo board exams.
Just wanted to ask for some prayers (her name is Michelle)and if anyone here has gone though this

I just stopped by the hospial on my way home from work. Her fever spiked again, and was delirious AND her blood oxygen dropped ten points in the 20 minutesI was there. Theywere changing her from the oxy mask to a respirator to force oxygen into her
Apparently, she cant sleep either, just sits up shaking in this state of delirium.

I'm so sorry Brenda. Are the doctors giving any explanations for all of this? Keeping you and your friend in my thoughts!

I am so sorry for all of you.
We have gone thru this and know how hard it is to see a loved one ill.

It's amazing how concerned you can be for someone you don't even know

I pray you'll have a positive update for us today.

My dd had viral pneumonia in November- she was five. Viral is uaully worse because it encompasses the whole of both lungs, where bacterial can be just a part of a lung. Also, antibioics won't help if it's viral pneumonia. My dd wasn't delierious, but was hospitalized for an entire week. It took several days for her to be able to breathe on her own, without her blood o2 level not dipping too low. My dd recovered beautifully, I sure your friend gets better soon- it takes time though.
