'Lars and the Real Girl' - quirky but sweet!

I loved this movie. DH and I watched it together. We both got a nice feeling from it. Lars' family -- so sweet and caring. I've been on a Ryan Gosling kick lately. What an awesome actor.

Did any of you see Lars? Thoughts...

My dh and I enjoyed it very much. It was strange but heartwarming and very sweet. It was very moving the way the entire town embraced and encouraged Lars.

2 Thumbs up!

I really wanted to like 'Lars and the Real Girl'...I normally love those sort of quirky, off-beat films. I have to say, though, I didn't really care for it. As fantasies go, I guess it was okay, but it was so incredibly unrealistic that I couldn't buy what they were selling. Without giving away any big plot points, I found it impossible to believe that the entire town would react that way, that the medical community would do what they did (especially the EMTs), and most of all that Lars would ever be okay without serious psychiatric help.

I think my main problem with it was I expected a little 'slice of life' film, not a fairy tale along the lines of 'Edward Scissorhands'.

Love Ryan Gosling though, and Emily Mortimer did a great American accent (although her character did one of the most ridiculous things in the movie when she tackled Lars' character...despite being pregnant. Seriously, what pregnant woman would take a running leap at someone and knock them to the ground?)
