She has legionnaires disease

I just spoke to Michelle's dad...She is still in the CCU on the respirator, but they have now diagnosed Legionnaires disease...her oxy levels are up (blood gasses), so hopefully they will be able to treat this accordingly. I didnt sleep at all last night, but I feel like now they know what it is, they can treat her correctly
Thanks for your prayers

Oh my gosh! Did they say how she "caught it"? I'm so glad they have a diagnosis so she can be treated now. Is this something they have to report to the CDC? Prayers still coming her way!

I dont know how she caught it...central air is one of the suspects (not window AC)...she has central air in her beauty shop, and also does sales for Loreal products and stays in lots of hotels. I spoke to my neighbor (a nurse ) and she said it has to be reported to the Center for Disease Control and they go out and try to find the cause

I found this info online, and i says 5 to 30% death rate....yikes

Hopefully, being that it is bacterial, it will be treatable (vs. viral). Thinking of all of you.

I am thinking the same thing...she has been on such strong antibiotics for three days now, that watery stuff is literally pouring out of her rectum...
I think if there is such a thing as hell on earth, she is in it now

Interesting facts taken from the above link........

Where do Legionella bacteria come from?
The Legionella bacteria are found naturally in the environment, usually in water. The bacteria grow best in warm water, like the kind found in hot tubs, cooling towers, hot water tanks, large plumbing systems, or parts of the air-conditioning systems of large buildings. They do not seem to grow in car or window air-conditioners.

How do people get Legionnaires' disease?
People get Legionnaires' disease when they breathe in a mist or vapor (small droplets of water in the air) that has been contaminated with the bacteria. One example might be from breathing in the steam from a whirlpool spa that has not been properly cleaned and disinfected.

Glad that they were able to come to a diagnosis so soon-sounds like the hospital is really on top of her case. Just curious, might this have something to do w/ her beauty shop partner's recent death? Still sending those prayers-she's lucky to have a good friend like you!

her partner died of an anuerysm in her brain, so I dont think they are related. Her shop has central air, which was broken, then recently fixed. The dept of health is checking that out

We are in northeastern PA...was the outbreak in upstate or NYC?? JC, NYC is about 2 1/2 hrs away, upstate about an hour. I also dont know where she traveled for her Loreal sales job.
She is doing better...got out of CCU Sunday, and was released home yesterday. I bought her some groceries (that cheered her up) I walked through the store telling her what I was looking at, and she chose what she wanted. She is really weak, and will be out of work several more weeks. Her bathroom is on the second floor, so she is camped out in her bedroom for now. Dr told her dont get scared and panic if you cant breathe, just sit down and rela and concentrate on getting the breathing back on line. No legionella bacteria found in her shop, so we dont know where she got it
