I have no thyroid...mine was removed and found to have cancer. I tried synthroid, but honestly felt horrible on it. The only medicine that I can take without horrible side effects is armor thyroid. It is an herbal thyroid medicine that pharmacies carry. Most doctors won't write a prescription for it though (they don't get kick-back from the company). The side effects that affected me were...horrible headaches, masive weight gain (over 100 pounds), low labito (sp?), depression and many others. My thyroid has been out now for more than 7 years and I have been feeling great for about the last two years. HTH

I've been on Synthroid since November 07. I didn't realize my thyroid levels were low and it made a big difference. I feel better on it. Less fatigue, better memory. I did think I'd lose a little weight when I went on it but I haven't - but I haven't gained any either. I don't have any muscle aches. Maybe I've not been on it long enough. I hope I don't get any. I had headaches prior to the synthroid, but I think they're hormonal - kinda hard to tell. I've started keeping track lately to try to tell what is causing them. Lisa

I am glad the information helped you. A lot of people do well on Synthroid...but it was horrible for me. And it has made a huge difference in my life (marriage too).

I take the generic of Synthroid which is Levoxyl. I take one 100 mcg tablet per day. I myself have had MANY issues lately with Severly painful knees and elbows and headaches.I did some research finding that it can be caused by the thyroid. So in researching more I realized I am a total idiot because I have NOT been taking my meds right. It even says on my bottle but I had not even read them. I know stupid of me.I was taking them along with all my other pills in the morning and I am not supposed to take Iron or anything with calcium at the same time plus I am supposed to take them On an empty stomache.. I had noticed that warning label about not taking them with iron or calcium was NOT on my last bottle so it must be a new warning. So now I am taking my iron at night and my nexium at lunch. There are so many different warnings to different meds that it can be a challenge to keep them all straight. Ok now to answer the original question...LOL! I would have to say that symptoms that I deal with are these: Brittle, frizzy and dry hair Trouble swallowing Joint pain I also have a goiter which is not so small and has small nodules on either side and that is annoying as well. GL at your appointment!

| I also had both lobes of my thyroid removed due to cancer - the first one was cancer, the second one was infected. I had my surgeries in summer of 2003. I am also on Synthroid (or the generic version I think).

Ugh, what bothers me the most is being in great shape for a couple of years, then gaining tons of weight and being so overweight fand obese (for about three to five years) that I can't stand myself. I cycle up and down like this and it has been that way since I was 16. The gut area is a prime symptom of thyroid disease and that is one area I wish I would not have problems with. It is horrible! Yeah, look at my face, but don't look below the neck!!! LOL!!! But the up and and down weight is the worst. I have recently had the joint pains that are discussed here. I just attributed it to work. Some nights, it feels so good to get into bed, like my body is just saying "thank you for taking the pressure off". We bought a memory foam mattress a while back, and that has helped some with the pains in the morning, but I still ache throughout the day. One dr tried to diagnose me with Fibromyalgia (sp?) and I couldn't believe it, but then again, it is a term for "unknown chronic pain". Well, whatever, just fix me damnit.. LOL |
