We are hosting a small, cozy BBQ and will let the kids run around in the sprinkler (no pool for us)...and have fun. We'll do fireworks of our own and watch the neighbors fireworks. It seems they must spend in the thousands...and we don't mind watching...lol

Growing up, we always had a picnic, made homemade ice cream and the adults did a few night works.

However, DHs family has always celebrated 4th of July nearly as big as Christmas. It's huge in their family. So, we'll go down to his brothers house (they have about 3 acres in an area where fireworks are still legal to shoot). There will be 50-60 people. The kids will shoot stuff (smoke bombs, bottle rockets and firecrackers - most legal, but not all) all day, everyone will bring a dish, we'll eat dinner and then they'll do nightworks for probably over an hour (several at a time..never 1 at a time - that would probably take over 3 hours!) Then we'll all load up and head home late. The kids will be covered in sweat, dirt & gun powder. And they'll love every minute of it!

It's hilarious to me! I enjoy spending time with the family, but the fireworks never did much for me!

Fried chicken (once a year) and side dishes along with homemade ice cream while we watch the fireworks from our back deck. They are small and quiet -- almost a mile away. Actually just what my youngest son can handle. My brother and his girlfriend will be here for all of this and stay through the weekend.

We're going camping. Dh usually goes in with our neighbor to buy about $700-900 worth of fireworks to shoot off, and most of the neighborhood (country neighbors so there aren't many!) comes to watch. But this year we're not doing the fireworks, he is building a new house and doesn't want it to catch fire! But where we're camping, the state amusement park right next door does fireworks so we can just take the path over there and watch them.

Otherwise I hope to be doing nothing but relaxing and reading. And yes drinking.....

I plan on enjoying the fireworks and even hearing them in my neighborhood ALL night. Then I plan on enjoying the rain a day or two after the fireworks. It ALWAYS rains after a good set of fireworks goes off and we need it!!

Probably nothing though I'd like to go to Stone Mountain, since the kids are older and would enjoy it. Haven't been since my 9 year old was a baby! Pretty crowded though.

We are having friends and family over for swimming and a cookout, then we are all going to watch fireworks at the park which is 2 blocks away. We are grilling steaks, hot dogs and hamburgers, I am making homemade potato salad, baked beans, chips, iced tea, soda and not sure what else yet.

We live in a cul de sac and all of the houses have a cookout then at dark we all head to the circle and do all the fireworks. Of course there's plenty of drinking going on, but since no one is going anywhere it's ok. It is so much fun, I"m sure all together we easily to $2/3000 worth.

This year for our cookout we let our kids invite their friends. DH always invites his employees over, there's only 3 besides himself. They can play in the pool and all that during the day. Our oldest DS and his friends are all really down right now. They just buried one of their friends today due to a car wreck. The boy that was driving still in the hospital a few hours away so it's not easy for them to see him either. I'm hoping at least for the day it will lighten their spirits.

We are having just one family over and keeping it small and non formal. The kids play great, the husbands are going to ride the quads and us wives are going to chat and drink margaritas.

It'll be the anniversary of my Dad's death so not to bring the thread in a downward mood, but it'll be a sad day for us.

We will be going to camp with the rest of the family (about 20 of us total). We will be relaxing by the lake, eating and drinking too much and enjoying a warm (hopefully dry) Maine weekend!

Oh that makes me sad! Last year on the 4th of July, our family was sent on Pat's Make-A-Wish trip. We had to leave the house @4am to make our flight to Logan. After checking into the hotel, and doing a bit of sightseeing (ok, a Sports Bar across the way from Fenway because we had to watch Wake pitch tht day), we headed back to our room on the harbor. Half of our clan passed out-they were so exhausted. While we were not close enough to hear the Pops, the fireworks were right outside of our window. We turned on the tv to the big televised celebration, and got to listen to the music as the fireworks were going on in total synchronicity from our hotel window.
It was so amazingly cool! Ora, didn't realize you were so close to Boston. Can Pat and I come visit????????????? And do you like the Dropkick Murphys?

We should be on our way to PA for my dads surgery on Monday. But I can't go!
I feel guilty, but I can't be in 2 places at once and our son is still in ICU and I won't leave town!

I want to wish all of you a happy 4th of July!

Shirley

I am currently in Florida staying at my mothers. For the 4th of July we will be spending it at my brothers house having a BBQ. Some of his friends and some of us Family chipped in and we have $1000.00 in Fireworks and Will have a Nice show at the end of the night! Where we set them off we have a panoramic view of others setting off fireworks so it makes for a GREAT show! I wish a Happy and safe 4th of July to you all!

Well, we are going to my mom's house for a cookout. Then later my DD will be in the parade with her cheerleader team. Then if I can keep her awake we will probably go and watch the city fireworks.

We have been planning for a long while to completely gut our bathroom and redo it. This is the weekend. Now though, we found out that since we were doing that, we have to do the kitchen at the same time. We had NOT planned on doing this. We are up to our eyeballs in plaster and lathe. Luckily we are going to my sisters for a small cook out and to be able to breathe air that has no plaster in it!

for the first time ever I am alone on a holiday I was bored by 10 am...

DH took the kids to the mountains to hang our with his family (they are camping). I would normally go but my new BIL is having his brother and wife come there as well and well...I hate the brother. So, I'm not going. It would be ugly and I can't trust myself to not say something I shouldn't. I really hope they are having fun (no cell reception so no calls). So hopefully there is a good movie on tonight. I'm just bored playing pogo now LOL

Our 4th of July just ended. For the last 5 years we have all gathered together on our boats at Freshman Island. (Small Island off our Island). We pull the boats in a circle, the kids swim all day, the adults drink all day, and at night we shoot off fireworks. This year was the biggest year, we had $1700 in fireworks. It just had to be the best time, there were 48 boats this year, probably about 100 or so people. On the Island, the Wild Horses were roaming in the marsh area right near our boats eating, the noise and all didn't even bother them, there was a beautiful colt with them this year. The beefalo were on the Island grazing, you could see them on the Island. It was a perfect day, friends and family having a great time. Of course until I had to drive the boat home....lol. The water was white capping, the drunk holding the light wouldn't keep it on the water so I couldn't see the crab pots, almost hitting two of them...in my brother's NEW boat....it was fun!!!!! I'll do it all over again next year. Hope everyone has a GREAT 4th of JULY!!!!1

Woo Hoo! I had a great weekend. Hope everyone else did as well.

We went to the Dells on Friday and my best friend from Iowa met us there. We spent the weekend out there and had a blast. I went to school in California with my best friend (my senior year) and we have been friends ever since. As a matte rof fact, I married her brother (my 1st marriage). I moved to the midwest first, in 87, and she moved to Washington state sometime later.
Then, she met a guy in the Navy who is from the Midwest. They ended up moving to Iowa in the early 90's. Now we are only 4 1/2 hours away from each other!! Life is strainge, but wonderful!

I have to post our picture to share. She is soooo good for my soul.

Yep, we had fun
