Question What books for 1-2 year old granddaughter?

My granddaughter will be one in September. I want to start her a library instead of tons of toys.
What do you seasoned parents, grandparents recommend? I am actually her step grandmother, but
I love her like she was my own.

TIA

There is a book called "The day the babies crawled away." CUTE! Also, start stocking up on anything Dora or Disney Princess, those are also big hits... Fancy Nancy books are also a hit, and will last for a LONG time.

Goodnight Moon
Ten Little Ladybugs
any of the Spot books
any color/shape/numbers/letters books
Miss Spider books

It's been a while since my girls were that age but these are a few that I remember them liking. I also second the Dora and Disney books, any Disney books my girls really enjoyed.

Books by Sandra Boyton (something like that). Also the 5 little monkeys board books are cute. (skip the picnic one, too scary).

My daughter is 15 months and loves Where is Baby's Bellybutton? She knows how to lift all the flaps. She also likes the Little Lamb finger puppet book. (although our little lamb is looking a bit sad, he has been chewed on alot!)

My daughters liked this one. I loved the diversity of the babies in it.

Amazon.com: "More More More," Said the Baby (A Caldecott Honor Book): Vera B. Williams: Books

Oh, and anything by Dr. Suess. The rhyming usually causes people to singsong when reading, which babies love.

My one year old LOVES books. She loves turning the pages and chewing on them. I would recommend the board books or fabric books because they will hold up to the extra abuse that they take when kids are so little. Her favorites are any of them that have something to do- we have one "Are You My Mother" with a bird that goes in and out of slots on the different pages, she also likes the ones with flaps, and another favorite one has a page with water in it with objects that float around in it.

For actual stories I would recommend, I like anything by Eric Carle or Dr. Suess.

There are so many my DD's loved, here is a quick list:

Dr Suess esp Oh The Places You will Go

Is your MaMa a LLama by Guarino
The Little Engine That Could by Piper .... I believe
Good Night Moon or Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown
Harold's Purple Crayon
Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans
Rainbow Fish
The Snowy Day by Keats
Ten little Ladybugs by Gerth

Anything by Eric Carle esp Papa, Please get the moon for me
anything by Leo Lioni
anything by Syd Hoff
anything by Maurice Sendak esp Where the Wild things Are

For 1-2yrs you can get board books of Beatrix Potter and the Milne Pooh stories.

My DD's favorite was a book called One KItten For Kim but its out of print. She loved the Animals in it.

Look for anything that has won any type of award, they usually have an entire section in the bookstore dedicated to these.

The giving Tree is an excellent book.
I agree with the Dr. Seuss books. My son was reading at the age of 4 with these. He especially liked the ABC one and One Fish, Two FIsh.

Curious George and Clifford books are cute. If you Give a Mouse A Cookie and the others that go with it have probably been my daughters very favorite.
