Teacher Basket

Cuthie's post got me thinking about the beginning of school. I usually make a basket for the teacher full of goodies that I've gotten for free (or near free) during the summer. But I kinda slacked off and I didn't even start yet!

Usually it'll include a gift card for the local teacher supply store (maybe $20 or so), pens, highlighters, post-its, stickers, stuff like that.

What can I put in the basket that she would appreciate?

What about all the deals that Office Depot and Staples have been having? Maybe the Purell antibacterial hand stuff, good smelling lotion (maybe you have some stashed away), maybe a candle and some bubble bath for when she gets home? I sent my baby's daycare teacher a nice candle set the other day, she seemed pleasantly surprised. Always good to let someone know they are appreciated!

I agree with previous poster. Buy the sales, especially pencils. I bought many packages of pencils last year for a penny each. I have a few left but kids always forget pencils. I like to have some so students can do their work. Fancy tea packets or coffee for those teachers that drink it. Chocolate or snacks are also great gifts.

For what grade? My youngest always gets stickers and prizes so I try and donate those when I find good deals. I think it really depends on the grade....

I wish you were @ my school!

At our school, it 's very rare for a teacher to receive an end of the year gift. It seems that most parents are accustomed to the "free" tutoring we offer their children before/after school. We don't expect anything, but a simple "Thank you" card would do wonders I think the idea of school supplies is excellent, food always works, BBW items are nice (especially wallflowers), or anything you'd like. I believe the teacher will greatly value the sentiment over the gift, atleast I would!!!!

Shoulda thought about xanax while I was out! But I may get her some Tylenol to add!

Here's what I got:

Pretty lined wicker basket that she can use again for something else.
Tide to Go Pen
5 pk. Sharpie Accent Highlighters in assorted colors
5 pk. Mechanical pencils with comfy grips
6 pk. Fluorescent Gel Pens
1 pk. Heart Shaped Post-Its
1 pk. Star Shaped Post-Its
1 pk. Post-It Page Markers (can you tell that I LOVE post-its?!?)
1 small lint roller
1 small emergency sewing kit
1 bottle of lavender scented room spray (I'm into aromatherapy and lavender soothes the crazy kids!)

That's all for now! Thank you all so much for the helpful answers!

My son's teacher likes the Renuzit room fresheners that are less than $1 at Walmart. The kind that you pull the plastic top up to make the scent as mild or strong as you want, where the inside scent is in a gel form.

I plan on bringing her a few of those at the beginning of the year.

He is having the same teacher this year as he did last year, as his teacher is "looping" with the kids.

I really liked her! She even requested that my son be in her class again.
