Rep Power: 33 | | 2 year old Caylee missing or what? I have been thinking....if Casey and Caylee lived with Casey's parents, weren't the partents wondering where Caylee was before Casey reported her missing (4 weeks later).
Prosecutors: Missing Fla. Girl Likely Killed
CBS News Interactive: America's Missing Kids
ORLANDO, Fla. (CBS) ― The mother of a missing 2-year-old is a person of interest in a case that is beginning to look like a homicide, prosecutors said Tuesday. Sheriff's deputies said they still hope to find the girl alive.
Casey Anthony, 22, is charged only with child neglect and lying to investigators. Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland set her bond at $500,000 Tuesday, saying the law did not allow him to hold her without bail.
CBS News correspondent Kelly Cobiella reports that for two and a half hours, Anthony listened, and at times cried, as witness after witness - five in all - took the stand in the bail hearing that sounded more like a murder trial.
Strickland set the unusually high bail amount after hearing about evidence of human decomposition allegedly found in Anthony's yard and car. Her daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony, has been missing since mid-June.
"Not a bit of useful information has been provided by Ms. Anthony as to the whereabouts of her daughter," Strickland said. "And I would add that the truth and Ms. Anthony are strangers."
Anthony is charged with child neglect, making false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation. Authorities say she did not report the girl missing until last week, and only then at her own mother's insistence.
Sheriff's deputies said Anthony's car smelled of decomposition, and a cadaver-trained German shepherd noted a smell of human remains in the car and her yard. They said they found a stain, dirt and what seemed to be Caylee's hair in Anthony's trunk. A search of the yard turned up no body.
Cobiella reports that detectives say a neighbor remembered Anthony asking to borrow a shovel around the time her daughter went missing.
"The risk of her flight if she is released on some low bond increases exponentially, especially now that she's heard this additional evidence and that she is their person of interest," said assistant state attorney Linda Drane-Burdick.
Deputies emphasized they were still looking for the girl - alive - and urged anyone with information to step forward.
Defense attorney Jose Baez requested bond around $10,000. He said Anthony's family can't pay a high bond and she has the right to freedom while facing lesser charges.
"This is not a capital case, and if it were they certainly would file it, if they had evidence to," Baez said. "There is circumstantial evidence of a possible homicide, I will give them that. But circumstantial evidence has not made them confident enough to charge her with any specific homicide or kidnapping, or any capital offense."
Anthony's parents became concerned after her car was towed from a check-cashing business where it had been parked for days. She and the child lived with her parents, and she told them she worked as an event planner at an area theme park.
Investigators say Anthony was unemployed, and a purported babysitter seems to never have existed. The mother and child hadn't been home in the month before investigators were notified that Caylee was missing. Investigators believe the girl's father is dead.
Anthony's mother, Cindy Anthony, acknowledged in court that her daughter had lied before, but said she was a caring mom. The registered nurse believes the girl is alive, and Casey Anthony lied to police because she was somehow threatened. Cindy Anthony said she would even sell her house to free her daughter.
"I know Casey as a person," she said. "I know what she is for a mother and I know there's only one or two reasons why Casey would be withholding something about Caylee. I believe that it's something that someone is holding over her and threatening her in some way."
Casey Anthony's face filled with tears at the hearing, watching her parents at the witness stand and again after Strickland set bail.
"Casey, we love you!" yelled Cindy Anthony as the courtroom cleared.
Her daughter nodded and sobbed before being led away in chains. |

Rep Power: 47 | | | I have a bad feeling that Caylee is dead. But I would also like to know where the grandparents were when she initially went missing and why did their daughter wait so long to report her missing. I hope I am wrong but it doesn't sound too good.
***Edited**** I just saw in the story where it said the mother and child were not at home for a month before she was reported missing. Instead of saying I'd post my daughter's bail, I'd be asking her where they were for that month and where is my granddaughter.

Rep Power: 32 | | | That poor babe is dead and her mother is where she belongs. My son would rot for #1 not reporting the missing babe, #2 for not telling the whole story. Besides if the mother is being threatened she's safer in jail. what kind of mother leaves her child at a sitter and "forgets" where it was and doesn't check ont he child often as 2 times a day!!!

Rep Power: 42 | | | This is so sad! Poor little girl. I hope they find her alive & unhurt, though the odds are against it. Makes absolutely no sense that the mom has been lying about the situation for weeks, never reported her missing to anyone, made excuses to her own family about the little one when they asked...that makes no sense at all. ITA the mom is where she belongs! Hopefully she will crack and tell someone the truth about what really happened so the child can be found. |

I think that's what the mother's defenders are alleging. |

What purpose would that serve?
I sincerely the "mother" of this little girl is a compulsive liar---and that precious baby is dead and gone.
It would be a cold day in hell before I would not report my child missing within in minutes of knowing they were gone! Unless of course, I had harmed my child and was trying to protect myself!

dl | I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they thought the father was dead.
You know, these parents who just KNOW their child wouldn't do this make me sick. Too many times, I have known "parents" who refuse to believe that their child could do any wrong.....from the crap they pull at school, to this sort of thing. People need to wake up and realize their children ARE capable of anything. Pathetic.

Rep Power: 47 | | | The grandmother is really starting to look like an idiot in my eyes. She seems to be more worried about protecting that lying daughter of hers than concern for the innocent baby. Little Caylee was precious, I will never understand how anyone could hurt a baby, period. Did anyone besides me notice the crazy mom, Casey, smiling and giggling at different points in court? What in the world could that loon be thinking?? |

Rep Power: 93 | | | I'm wondering if they had buried Caylee in the back yard and have now dug her up. That would explain the smell, the dirt and Caylee's hair in the trunk of the car.
Now I'm thinking the grandmother is in on it, too.

I can't speak for all of you but everytime I get a pizza, its usually because I am going to eat it for lunch or dinner. Unless its a frozen pizza, but even then if I know I purchased one, and don't see it as i unload the groceries I usually go look for it. I am sure those dogs know the difference between rotten food and a body.

Rep Power: 12 | | | I totally think the grandma is acting nutso too. The way she presents herself... Whether she is in on it or not? I wouldn't think so, as isn't she the one that reported the little girl missing? Why would she bring attention to herself like that, especially if they had done something to the girl so recently? Wouldn't they 'wait' for the scents to leave, possibly a year or so, more time to cover their tracks, etc.? I mean the little girl is 2, not really anyone but immediate family is going to notice she's missing (not in school, etc.). It's obvious that the daughter is a major liar though; they have even had numerous co-workers/friends come forth and state that she cannot tell the truth to save her life. I doubt we'll ever get the truth out of her.
I would be willing to bet that something 'accidental' happened to the little girl (maybe the mom forgot about her and left her in the hot car, etc, she doesn't seem like she's all there after all) and the mom panicked. I figure she buried her in the backyard the day she asked the neighbor to borrow a shovel, then panicked again and moved her to the car's trunk, and we may never find where she put her. The girl did look like she was well taken care of in all of the pictures so that is why I think it was 'accidental' (but of course looks can be deceiving). I believe the grandma stated that the mom and little girl had moved in with a boyfriend the month they were gone, etc. As for the mom's behavior in court, etc., I'm hoping that she is in a state of shock; maybe she's on some sort of meds., who knows. I hope that isn't the 'real her' day to day anyway. Same could be said for the grandma too, I suppose, I guess I would be acting crazy too if something like this happened to my kids/grandkids.
I'm sure the police are in the process of dealing with the phone company (cell phone) records to trace all of the pings from the mom's phone during that timeline. This would at least give them a pretty good idea of where she has traveled (assuming she had the phone with her all that time). I sure do hope that they find the girl alive but of course we all know it isn't looking good. |

Rep Power: 77 | | | I miss my Court TV! I used to be able to tune in and they would have coverage on a story like this all day long! Now I tune into Nancy Grace to find out the latest. At first I thought that perhaps the mother sold Caylee to someone for money or drugs. Now with the recent developments, I also think that perhaps she accidentally killed the child somehow. Maybe a boyfriend killed the child and she's covering up for him? Who knows? I wonder if the truth will ever come out? I'm sure that the dogs can tell a dead human scent apart from a rotting pizza. Even the grandmother said on the 911 call released tonight that it smelled like a dead body in her daughter's car. I'd like to see what she bought when she went on a spending spree with her mother's credit card. If she bought things for herself, maybe she just wanted to be single again and didn't want the responsibility of being a single mom...so she killed the sweet baby? From seeing the videos and hearing her friends talk, it would appear to be that she took good care of Caylee. I hope that the truth comes out soon. The evidence is starting to pile up that she did something to Caylee. It should be interesting to see what the stains are that the police found in her car trunk. ~Lisa

Rep Power: 15 | | | This entire thing is sad and annoying. Today we've gotten two phone calls from 062 area code. That is the area code that telemarketers use to get around the national do not call list. Anyway, BOTH were from the Grandfather of Caylee asking for support in finding her. It really pissed me off. Don't bother me, ask your daughter where she left her kid, dead or alive.

It just pisses me off that none of them just seem to be at wits end about not having the baby, or knowing she's ok. The ignorant POS mom not telling anything? The ridiculous grandmother defending her piece of crap daughter?? That poor pitiful child. You know, these innocent kids don't ask to be born into this crap. It just burns me up. |

Excellent post! I'm with you girl! I swear, if that was my daughter I'd beat the crap out of her until she told me where my granddaughter was! The hell I'd be defending her! Especially after I found out she didn't report the child missing to the police right away. Who in the hell waits over a month? That is just totally insane. And after the grandmother said that the daughter's car smelled like a "damn dead body"! If you were Caylee's mother, and you didn't do anything to her, wouldn't you be screaming, crying, falling out on the floor in the courtroom telling them that you didn't do anything to the child and that we must find her? I'd be flipping out, not just sitting there dabbing at my eyes with a tissue! I think that perhaps she buried the child in the parent's backyard. Then when she got wind that the police were going to use dogs to search the yard, she maybe dug he child back up, put her in the trunk of her car, and went off and buried her someplace else. I know, I know...it's all speculation on my part, but that's the only way I think that dirt got in the mother's trunk and the dog's smelled a human body in the yard. I hope we get to the bottom of this very soon. I'm getting tired of her game playing and no answers. It's getting ridiculous! ~Lisa

Rep Power: 36 | | | When i watched Nancy Grace last night and they posted the conversation of the mother talking and saying everyone thinks it;s me because i am not crying and I can't because I have to answer questions to the attorney's and she was throwing the "F" bomb around left and right. I could have punched the TV and God Bless Defense Attorney's because I would tell her see you your guilty as Hell.
If I were in that situation and I was innocent I would be on the floor collapsed with fear and wanting my Baby back. I would need some serious medication to help me. I know some poeple are stronger than others but this is your child.
Sorry but to me she is so GUILTY and GRANDMA better wake up even she wants to beleive her daughter isn't a monster.

Rep Power: 12 | | | I also think it could be that Casey met a new boyfriend, the boyfriend wants Casey but doesn't want to have to 'deal' with the child, so Casey did something to Caylee. This way Casey is free to live that 'single' life again. Pretty much the Susan Smith case all over (remember she drowned her two boys when she purposely rolled the car into a lake with them strapped into their carseats so that she could be with her 'new boyfriend'). I also can't wait to see what Casey bought on the spending spree. Will certainly tell a lot. I am also beginning to think that while the grandparents didn't do anything to harm Caylee, I think they 'know' and have known for a long time what has happened to the child. I saw the grandfather on t.v. tonight and he also acts like he's loopy. I doubt i'd be able to barely get out of bed to deal with this (and yes I know everyone deals with these things differently), but the entire family just acts like, oh well, if she comes back, great, if not, great, etc. The grandmother did also say today that she knew Casey was hanging out with a new group of friends over the past couple of months. It's quite obvious though that the grandmother is an enabler to her daughter (she could totally be my MIL and Casey eerily reminds me of my troubled SIL). |
