What is going on with the Guiding Light cinematography?

Is it just me???

I haven't watched this old favorite soap of mine in about 8 years. I turned it on this afternoon, and the camera was zooming in on the people's foreheads, and has a really shaky feel...something like a homemade video (think Blair Witch Project). Most of the time, the camera was cutting off the tops of the actors' heads.

Did some kid win a "Be the Camera Person for a Soap Opera" contest?

What is going on with this? Is this the only soap going for this new style? I felt like a voyeur in the bushes...

I had to stop watching - I was really getting a little headache. And I never get headaches.

I don't watch the show, but I looked on wikipedia and did find this:

In the daytime drama's 71st season the show will change its look to a more "realistic" experience. On February 29, 2008 a new opening replaced the current anniversary opening which many fans have not been pleased with. The new look of Guiding Light means free hand camera work and less time in traditional studio sets. Producer Ellen Wheeler has introduced a "shaky-cam" style present in a number of feature films featuring extreme-closeups and frequent cuts, including those that "break the axis," which may prove disorienting to viewers accustomed to the traditional "soap opera look." Also new are the shooting of outdoor scenes that take place in actual outdoor settings. Even many indoor scenes will have a more "on location" feel, utilizing real locations such as CBS board rooms and offices. CBS and the show's producers are wagering that the new look can help reinvent the show and raise ratings, making the longest-running program in daytime history a model for the future of daytime.

Many of the shows fans have expressed displeasure with this new format and with further dwindling ratings raises the question whether GL will survive.

That's so weird. I looked today too - haven't watched since 2006. I couldn't figure out what was up w/ the forehead thing. Made NO sense. Even wiki's explaniation didn't make sense b/c it's so HORRIBLE to watch.

I watched it one day and I thought it looked like someone was shooting it with a camera phone! It's horrible!
