Progesterin, menopause, skipped period question

Hi folks! Yes, I'm at that age. I think my periods are about done. Today my doc prescribed a 10 day course of progesterin (sp) to see if there is anything in the uterine lining that needs shed and can't because of hormonal changes due to menopause. Anyone else have to do this? Any side affects? I think it's been 4 or 5 months since I've had a period. I'm hoping it's done!!! I've had perimenopausal symptoms for over 7 years and I'm almost past the average age of cessation (51). Thanks for any thoughts. I can't wait to ceremoniously hand over my tampons, etc... to my friend with the 8 daughters!! I know you have to go a year without periods but I'm counting it down.....lol

Well, keep on counting...and don't give those tampons away too soon. I went 11 1/2 months without a period. Now, spotting for 2 months on and off. I've just about had it! I never took any thing to help things along, or control symtoms. I figure nature does what it has to do, but that's just me.

Never heard of taking that, but I am not up on the latest things. I had light ones for awhile, then went 6 months without one and then one and it stopped. They wanted me to take hormones for my hot flashes, but I don't like drugs, so I said no. In Oct. it will be 2 years, and I had it till I was about 55. Got it when I was 11, and I am really glad it is over. At least no more worries about getting pg-ha!

You almost made it to that 1 yr mark. So sorry. I thought that 12 months was the magical amount of time that you must go without a period to be declared officially free of periods.

and you can't just count on the age (you mentioned 51) I am 53 and a half, lol and still have monthly periods. No hot flashes, no symptoms except getting fat and tired.

Wow, I have not had the CURSE for 17 years and I do not miss it at all. I fly right by those isles in the stores...lol

I was eating tofu for years which helped with the hot flashes. Now I just go with the flow, Fans on at night! I may at some point take some meds but for now, I like being a bitch and flashing, Seems like a good reason to have the air on and the heat down in the winter.
