I had to do a search on the book to see what the butterfly looked like, I found it here if anyone else was curious too Powell's Books - The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter Its a really pretty butterfly, will you go with the same size? If the same size I would put it either on my shoulder blade, or at the bottom of my back, If you are going to make it smaller I think it would look really nice on a foot. when you get it show us pictures!

I would downsize the design on a woman.....actually I think a butterfly on a dude looks kinda sillly.

I guess it depends on if you want it to be seen or you want to keep it in a private area. Personally if I was to ever get one, I'd probably put it on my ankle or foot, although I hear getting a tat on the foot hurts like a MF!! LOL

FYI... the lower back tattoos are now referred to as "tramp stamps". LOL

Shoulder is nice, but you never see it unless you look in the mirror. The one on my shoulder blade is my favorite, but I never get to see it up close. I think it's a very feminine area for a tat... there and the ankle.

Yes, thats the picture of the book link posted above..(my favorite book series)
I would go much smaller.. I'm not really a tattoo person, although I have always wanted a small one. I was thinking my ankle too. Then a friend tells me there thats the most uncomfortable place to get them because of the bone there. So I'm just not sure now...seeing my not real good w/ pain.

I would defiantly downsize it. I have one on my ankle and it didn't hurt at all, plus on top of my foot and on my shoulder.

I would put it on my shoulder and just downsize it. I really need to take picts of my tatts one day.......lol

Our oldest one wants one so bad, but will have to wait until he is 18---exactly one month from today. I will gladly pay for it. DH and I have no "ink" whatsoever. DS is very clean cut, but just wants a permanent LIVESTRONG band on his arm. just a few inches below his shoulder. AFter all he has gone through, and being a survivor, I totally support it.

WOW, that was such a nice post!
Thanks for your insightful comment!

But I would like to say " To each their own". It's MY body, and where "I" decide to put MY tattoo, I will.
NO I do not have a tramp stamp. If you don't like them don't look at them. I can cover any of my tatts up and no one will see them. I've know people for years and they didn't know I had them until this past weekend. And I am a Granny ! Imagine that?

P.s. I go to Parent Teacher conferences all the time. My students do not know that I have any either! Does that make me a bad teacher , because I have tatttoos?

Isn't that considered cruelty to animals? You dog doesn't want it, you do.

I want to get one on my left side. I have it drawn out (it's 2 Stargazer Lilies with 3 buds), its about as big as my hand and will mostly be on my rib cage under my bra band.I chose here because everything I own will cover it up except my bikini and when I'm old and saggy I will be in a one-piece.

I think to each thier own too. I definately would not get one and I don't think I will ever. I have a feeling I would regret it later in life... but I sure do like to look at others. I have seen some really beautiful artwork on people's arms and back. I have also seen some that looked like they did it with a marky marker. Granny! if you like it, do it, it is your body. It doesn't make you a tramp, it is just an old steriotype.

I have one on my ankle now. My next one will be on my wrists. I have never once regreted my tattoo. I love how they look coming up from the top of the foot to the lower leg. I afraid of it hurting on my foot though. lol I would like to get one on my foot and run up mix in with my current tattoo.

Btw, the butterfly is beautiful. It will make a great tattoo.

I had a old old lady as a client once and she had a mans name tatooed on her arm. it looked awful. all that was left was the black ink. the heart she had around it had faded. It looked like a bruise. I ask her if that was her hubbys name and she laughed and said she didnt remenber who he was. lol. but not her hubby . lol
I had another lady who had roses tattooed on her left breast. she had rather large breast. at the age of 87, they sagged really bad and those was the funniest looking roses I have ever seen. they stretched and the little stem was now a long stem rose. lol. it was hard to look at and not laugh. she had surgery on her other breast and didnt wear a bra cause of the wound. she said everyone that seen the tat got tickled. lol

I just got one on my foot and I love it there. Can be seen when you want it to and can be easily covered. I also have 2 on my hip/ the foot did not hurt. I am a wuss when it comes to pain and it was not bad at all. Mater of fact trying to decide what to get on the other foot
I think it is all up to personal taste. I love looking at other peoples tattoos all over them but as for me only ones that can be easily covered. To each his own and I would not look at someone differently because they are heavily tattooed. My ex is heavily tattooed and is a tattoo artist.

I got my first one 12 years ago and it is a dolphin colored and it was $60. I got my second one 10 years ago and it is around my belly button about 2 1/2 ins out from my belly button all around. Very colorful. It is a dolphin and a whale coming out of a tunnel (my belly button) with fish and water all around it was $150. The one I got on my foot a month ago is just black and it is a Q (about 1 1/2 tall , block style) with an A and a S running in the middle of it and that one was $60.

First one got in Vegas Rose on ankle, 60.00, 2nd one is a butterfly on top of foot ,
Free, my friend is a tat artist,
3rd ,took the longest and is on my left shoulder blade, blue and black butterfly with some tribal.
the 4th is in a bit of a personal place.......... and its for me and hubby plus my gyno to see only., lol
Most parlors charge on size or the time it takes to ink. Best thing to do is find the parlor you want and take a pict in to show, they can give you a price. , Wod of mouth is the best way to find a nice and clean studio.

refer to this thread for more info about tattoos. I have stories with all my tatts they symbolize a part of my life.

Tattoos.....

I have a rose/sunburst on my right arse cheek, cost about $40. I've had that for about 12 or so years. My back tat (yes I have a tramp stamp ) is a patriotic butterfly with hand drawn tribals on each side, that was a b-day present from dh. It cost about $90. Can't wait to get a 3rd. Probably an ankle/foot one.

I like the butterfly you chose. I would go with either a smaller version on your leg/ankle or get it on your lower back.

I have a butterfly tat on my ankle. I think that one was about $70. I recently got a beautiful pink/white butterfly (black outline) with tribal coming out of the sides. It is on my back a couple inches below my neck. That one was $150. For my birthday I am going to get one around my ankle and maybe a little one on the inside of my wrist.

I work in an elementary school (front office) and my bosses (the principals) have had no problems with my tattoos being seen by the public. As a matter of fact, my new boss has one on her foot.

Getting a tattoo is a personal choice. I love my tattoos and they are a part of what makes me who I am. I do not judge a book by its cover but rather what is on the inside. I would hope that others are the same way

Have fun getting your tat and please post a picture after you get it!!!

My tattoo of a crescent moon with a dangling star was $50. That was several years ago though.

Very well said. I thought terms like "tramp stamp" went out in the 90's. Hmm...
I'm a teacher too and a popular one at that. I have parents requesting my class. I have 4 tattoos!
Each one symbols a different part of my life. 2 are on my back...sadly I don't have a "tramp stamp" and 2 are on my hip. I designed 2 of them and I guess if having tattoos makes me a "bad person" so be it I'm not in this world to impress anyone.

yah..that is REALLY going to upset the CNA with 20 tats, pink hair, eyebrow piercing and tongue piercing..and oh maybe a nose piercing..
actually a lot of my tat and pierced friends are CNAs and others in the health field, and they always love the storys from the women with tats..at least these women lived a little and they are going with memorys..lol..
if you really want to see your tat, put it on your ankle, upper thigh...if you don't mind not seeing it everyday, your shoulderblade. it would really look nice there.
i have 4, yes a tramp stamp..which i have no idea where that come from other then the movie wedding crashers...personally i have never heard anyone use that unless they were slurring on someone.one on my left leg, davids name with a rose, the one on my back david designed, is 2 locks with out favorite colors in the flowers and shading with the words bittersweet, which he says describes our years together..<24> and a butterfly on my right shoulder, 2 little horny devils on my left shoulder blade. i want a few more.
david has the laughing skull with DILLIGAF on his right arm, and the boys names over his heart, which he said hurt like a mofo....a friend of mine got her foot tat and she said it didn't hurt that bad, healing was another story. takes a while for it to heal so make sure you can wear no shoes or flip flops.

I have two, a large Phoenix rising out of clouds and flames on my lower back and the word "Hope" with the butterfly logo of the Childrens Cancer Research Fund on my right hip. My two daughters (one is a cancer survivor) an I all got the matching Hope tattoos on New Years Eve this year. I had to sign for my youngest (16) and that set off a huge round of 'belly button ring vs tattoo' debate among the soccer moms, but I didn't care.....it is something special for me and my daughters.

I have said this before and I will say it again. I have several tattoos I got when I was in my early 20s. I hate them now! It is the one thing about my body I would change if I could do so.
Picture your Mother's graduation picture. What if she still had that hairdo or outfit or wore her makeup that way?

People judge me by these stupid ugly things all the time and they have no bearing on me, my likes, my personality or anything! I hate them and cannot get rid of them without paying about $3500 per tattoo.

Put it where the sun don't shine that is my opinion. Not on your back unless you want to never attend a formal event again or get married in a backless gown or wear a tank top to work.

Not on your chest for the same reasons. Not on your arm or leg and not on your shoulder, hand, foot, or face.

Nothing against tattooos or people who have them I just wish I would have not done it. What you like and what you think is good at age 20 is not the same as it will be at age 40 or 50.

So in a nutshell my advice is don't even get one.

Yeah I decided to get it on my ankle.. I figure that it will still be in the same place when I'm 80, unlike other areas. I'm going to be 36 next month....so I figure if I wanted one at 16 & STILL want ONE, I'm gonna get it one. Hubby is not very happy with my decision...But I don't really care, I have lived my life HIS WAY for 18 years & ready to live my life MY way now.

I have three rows around my left ankle. It cost 180.00. I have wanted it for years and is in an area that can be covered or bare. I am considering another on my back. I am not into them on my hands/arms/face because it would be too difficult to cover if needed.

My DS wants one-he will be 18 next month, and is heading off to college as a music major. He just wants a permanet LIVESTRONG band across his upper arm. Kudos to that kid-he is one year and cancer free and I totally support that. However, what is really cool, is that Grandma and Papa Smith actually want to pay for that tatoo...How cool is that????
So heading out of town, with a big French horn playing guy.....w/ tats//////

I know that if they had been more common in the early 80's, my best frend and I definitely would have gotten one...or maybe more when we were in our early 20's. I guess we just didn't hear much about them or see many tat places around at the Jersey shore back then. I'm sure they're all over the place now. They are in PC Beach. I have seen some really cool ones, but I'm 45 now. I just feel too old to get my first one now. But it is a thought! Maybe just a small one somewhere... My daughter is only 14, way too young to get one, but when she's 18 and wants to get one, that's fine by me. She likes the music note that Brooke Hogan has behind her ear. She thinks it's "cute". Sometimes if we're going to the beach, DD and I will put some really cool fake ones on that look pretty real. It's alot of fun! You only live once! ~Lisa

My in-laws were in their 60's when they got their first tattoos! It was too funny to hear my MIL talk about going to the nursing home to see her mom and trying to hide the tattoo on her ankle so her mom wouldn't yell at her ;-)
