I've had Vonage for a year....the caller ID feature stinks! I also think the cost isn't as good as it should be, I'm paying almost as much as I was for a land line. The sound quality is very good but ymmv on that. I'm going to switch to the Time Warner combo pk...high speed internet, cable & telephone, they have a deal all three locked in for three year for $100 a month. I already have the high speed internet & cable for about $80 a month so for $20 more I'll get the phone service too.

Apennysaved - I'm not sure how much you pay but I pay $24.99 a month for unlimited calls in the US. That includes voicemail, call waiting, caller ID (which works perfectly here), 3 way calling, and several other features. They also have a $14.99 a month plan that is 500 minutes of outgoing calls in the US and unlimited incoming calls. HTH!

Thanks for all the good info. I am now and have been for decades a AT&T customer, but the prices are just sooo high that I feel like I should shop around. I know with Vonage that I have to have a DSL connection- who has the best price on that? I'm going to go check out "Lingo" as mentioned. Any other places to check out?? Thanks again and keep the info coming so I can cut the AT&T cord!!! |

We've had vonage for two years now...we waited till we could move our phone number over. We pay $34 a month and that includes $5 for an extra phone number that's a local call for my mom in Florida. I love the service...we used to have verizon and we were continually losing service. My cable goes out far less than our phone used to, so we're very happy with the vonage setup. Maureen |

nope and never will. We "tried" to use them a couple of years ago. First off, they have NO customer service. You will sit on a phone talking to some person in India for hours who doesn't understand you...honestly. I have spoken with many customer service people in India and they have been fine but out of the probably 10 people I got with Vonage, not one could hardly understand me and those who could, couldn't answer my questions and I would be put back on hold. I tried to sign up. I ordered the equipment needed and I waited. I was supposed to get a free trial to see if I liked it but the equipment never came (although I got billed for it). Call after call, wait after wait...no no could help me. Then I get charged for my first month. I call again and was told my free trial was over. Huh? I haven't even USED your system because you haven't sent me my equip yet! Sorry...your free trial is over. I had to dispute with my credit card company because they wouldn't credit me over the phone....talk about bad CS That said, we have a few friends who love them but they did not need any additional equip to run it and have never had a customer service question and/or problem. So I imagine the actual service is fine but I wouldn't hold my breath if you need help....

We have had Vonage for a couple of months now. We did have some problems while trying to get started, however the customer service was great! I never had trouble getting ahold of anyone for help. Our troubles were due mostly to my anxieties(ignorance) about computers and computer lingo. When I suggested switching back to my previous service, they bent over backwards to keep me. They ended up lowering the price for a year. I only pay $14.99 for unlimited . Also, they sent out a guy to hook up everything for me, at no charge. All of our family is out of town, so it is nice not to pay for long distance. The sound/connection quality is fine, I notice no difference and we never had caller ID before and are really liking that feature. |

| we've had brighthouse for a few years..alot of static & dropped calls at times. we both have cell phones, so it wasn't too important to us. WE did see we would save about $20 a month by switching to our cable/roadrunner company "Brighthouse" so we switched last month & I was so mad at the people on the phone as I tried to cancel service...they kept going at me & would not let me get off the phone. I finally hung up on them & saw within minutes my service was canceled...so I guess they got the point, I just wasnt happy with there no stop relentless way of trying to keep me a s a customer.

I have a "3WIRE" small tower thing (from AT&T) that let's us use the DSL and filters on all the phones. I was told that I would need a dedicated line for the DSL if I didn't have AT&T for my landline(told by AT&T)...I'm so confused!

I might be old fashioned in this area but I still have Qwest for my phone and DSL and long distance and I would not change. If you are on Vonage I understand that 911 cannot trace the call back to your address. Scary to me.

4csmom, if you have DSL, a telephone company is providing your internet service. If you have cable internet, a cable company is providing your service. Both are high speed, but there are subtle differences that you might or might not notice related to how many in your neighborhood are online at once, etc. Our Vonage experience was identical to Smurfs. I really wanted it to work but they sent the wrong equipment and charged us and I literally spent an ENTIRE day on hold. They'd transfer me after a five minute conversation determining someone else should help me, and then I'd wait and wait and wait and eventually the next person would come on and mid-discussion when it became apparent that they couldn't help me, POOF - I'd get cut off and the insanity would begin again. Google "Vonage Suc*s" and see what you get. |

My experience with Vonage also sucked. I signed up for it and paid the total of $162.00(aprox.) and never got hooked up and then they refused to send me my money back when I had had enough screwing around with their crappy CS. I had to file a complaint with my bank and my bank went after them for me and got me every penny back. I would NEVER EVER recommend Vonage.
