We were up to $3.98 and now we're at $3.75, it goes down 1-3 cents a day. It's sure not going down as fast as it went up, when it was going up it jumped 7-10 cents in one day.

ok, I am finally glad I live in Ohio! I filled up today for $3.43 ( it was $3.53 at Kroger's but 10 cents off per gallon since I spent $100 at the grocery store).

It is going down here. LOL, now I am waiting to for the price to fall before I fill up. It wasn't long ago that I dare wait because the price would be higher!

I noticed in one area it had gone from $3.86 to $3.93 and back to $3.86 as of yesterday. That was about 10 miles from me. Another area, just a couple of miles from me was still 3.97 yesterday. Not sure about today, haven't been out....saving gas, LOL!
I hope it continues to go down though...these prices are killing me.

The Discover More card program gives a 5% cashback rebate right now, so essentially each gallon is about $.18-$.20 off thanks to that. At the pump it's $3.81, so our net price is about $3.63ish.

Yes, finally a little relief. Paid $3.76 today, compared to $3.99 just a couple of days ago. My community is more expensive, but drive just one mile to a bordering suburb, and it's usually 20 cents a gallon cheaper.

Will we ever in the coming years see gasoline price in the $2 range again?

Was $4.05 last week now $3.75 today.

Does anybody know why it's dropping? I'm glad, but what's the cause?

I just told DH the same thing today. I was thrilled that I could fill my Tahoe up and it "only" cost $75.00.

There is discussion of allowing US companies to drill offshore in areas that we're currently restricted from drilling. Bush wants to rescind an executive order that prevents it. I don't fully understand if congress then needs to okay it as well. I just know that as soon as he said he was rescinding it the price per barrel of crude started falling from up around $150 to just over $120.... and gasoline prices have begun to fall as a result.

I see that crude is up a titch today but only slightly - by about $1.25/barrel.

Wow, ya'll have some cheap gas! I'm in NJ and we used to have some of the lowest gas prices in the country. We've dropped a bit but not nearly as much as you are reporting in your areas. We're still up around $3.83, I think. I hope it continues to drop -- we're taking a big trip next month and a break on the gas would be great.

Most of the gas stations around here are at $4.14. But it dropped from $4.21. The stations are roughly about 10-15 minutes from my house (I usually stop on my way to work).....now if I drive across the border into PA, about a 6 minute drive from my house....it's only $3.89! Was $3.99 last week, so I'm hopeful it'll go down even more.

Yes, it's coming down here. It started coming down as soon as President Bush signed the executive order lifting the ban for off-shore drilling.

Now if Congress will do their part, we could see it come down even more.

I can't see how the President lifting the ban on offshore drilling made any difference...even the White House said that his decision wouldn't have an impact on prices. The price drop we've seen is about reduced demand in the U.S.

How sad it is that seeing $3.72 made me happy this morning, where just a couple of years ago that price would've been inconceivable.

I think the impact it had was on the speculating that was happening within the market. The two key things that have been sending prices skyrocketing are the increase in demand worldwide and the traders who were banking on the future prices of oil going higher and higher due to the supply/demand issue. It wasn't exactly the same, but it was somewhat like the internet stock bubble, back when upstart companies had stock prices that were through the roof based on nothing but air and the presumption that the businesses would eventually turn profits. Yes, there was substance behind the internet and where it was going, but the speculation on just *how* lucrative it would be had people making frenzied investments that were out of line with reality. That was happening with oil.

Bush signaling that we'd begin drilling offshore made those whose speculative buying was artificially inflating the price per barrel go, "WHOA NELLY - maybe we need to back off here just a bit!"

That didn't fix the entire issue, because we still have increased demand worldwide and no perceptible (yet) change in supply that's accessible today, so they're not going to plummet to pre-Katrina prices... but at least it put the brakes on the speculation.
