Spinoff of the other thread about eyebrows...

Has anyone had the permanent eyebrow "thing" done? Mine have gotten very thin (due to age I guess) and I was toying with the idea of getting it done. A woman I know from the kid's school had it done and it looked beautiful. The way they shaped and arched them, it totally changed her face. I'm just scared because what if you don't like it and it's permanent? I do think you have to get it re-done so I'm guessing that it does fade off eventually. I don't want to look garish looking... Any thoughts on this? Thanks... ~Lisa

My aunt had it done a few years ago. I don't like it personally...looks like doll eyebrows...very fake. Maybe it's because she had like 5 hairs on each side and drew them in herself daily. After 5 years, they have faded a lot but she can't afford to get them redone.

I may have mentioned this before - I had 7 or 8 fifteen-minute sessions with an electrologist in the past year. I had several random little hairs growing on or under my chin, and I wanted to do away with them permanently. Once that got taken care of (those were done in a matter of 3 or 4 minutes each time), she'd go on and zap some of the little under-the-nose ones that could have become moustachy in a few years.

I asked her about my eyebrows (electrolysis is addictive!). She said, whatever you do, don't pluck the white/gray ones that are INSIDE the eyebrows. While it's tempting to just pluck them, white/gray eyebrow hair is different than the other facial hair, in that they stop growing back. She said that when you see ladies who have only a few straggly eyebrow hairs left, it is usually due to the white ones being plucked.

So one more thing to watch out for as we age gracefully...

I also don't think that I've seen them look very realistic... even drawn on looks funny to me. I'm blessed with bushy brows though so I'm not sure that I'd feel the same way if I didn't have very much hair there. Good luck in your decision!

Thanks for the input everyone. Yes, I was thinking exactly what SexySmurf said...but I couldn't think of a term for it...doll eyebrows! LOL... That's what I'm afraid they might turn out to look like. There's a girl who works at Costco around here and whenever I see her, I can't help but just stare at her eyebrows. They are totally drawn on...they are severely arched and look so fake. Kind of like Pam Anderson's. I don't like that look at all. I think I'll just stick with what I have. First I need to lose some weight. Eyebrows are the least of my worry right now! One thing at a time. Oh, here is a bizarre website, dedicated to eyebrows...LOL ~Lisa

OMG, I bet that's what happened to me

I did, in fact, pluck white/gray hairs years ago and they did not grow back. My eyebrows now are very sparse -- especially the outer half
