Maternity clothes

Why don't pregnant women wear maternity clothes anymore?
Why do they just stuff themselves into regular clothes and let their big bellies just stick out there?
They look so sloppy and un-done.
It's such an ugly look!

It's funny you posted this. I picked up my DD and her friend both 15 from the mall last night and this is the subject they were talking about. I guess there were alot of pg mommies at the mall last night in tight clothes.

I agree some people stuff themselves into tiny clothes, when pregnant, but maybe they cant afford to buy maternity clothes, they are very exspensive, I did buy maternity clothes, and also just larger sized clothes, mostly for tops, I want to get rid of my maternity clothes, and I really dont want anymore kids but I know my luck, as soon as I get rid of them Ill end up pregnant lol (kill me now) and then I will have to buy them all over again.

I am on baby #4. I normally wear a L, I have had to purchase L, XL and XXL with this pregnancy (I have only gained 40 lbs). I am in my last two weeks (hopefully) but my XXL no longer fit (they aren't long enough to cover my belly). I wear DH's shirts now since he is a "tall" and they seem to work - but I know they don't look right. My solution - the big V day is hitting our house in Sept.!

OMG, I was in Walmart a couple of weeks ago and there was a lady, she had to be at least 8 months pregnant and she was wearing some regular stretch type pants with the pants under her big belly and a halter top, a halter top like a bathing suit halter top type, the WHOLE BELLY was out there for everyone to see. Come on people, I don't want to see that, you might think your pregnancy is beautiful, it might be hot, but cover up. You don't have to buy maternity clothes if you can't afford them there are other options: people I know have worn their husband's big t-shirts, borrowed maternity clothes from friends, gone to thrift shops to find some, requested off freecycle, bought at yard sales. Or just buy one shirt to wear out in public, but to just not even try and just wear regular clothes like your not even pregnant, I do not understand.

I guess I should add, regular clothes are fine, in no way did I mean that regular clother were not ok to wear when pregnant, what I meant was stuff like this woman was wearing the tight sweat pants and bathing suit halter top and being 8 months pregnant.

I am one of those that wear my regular clothes. I do own maternity clothes and will sometimes wear them. I am 6 months pregnant and my youngest is 10 months old - I had just packed up all that clothes when I found out I was pregnant again. I DID NOT want to keep wearing the 4 pairs of pants and probably 8 shirts that had been wearing solid for almost a whole year - I wanted to wear my regular cothes! I also cannot fit into most of the maternity stuff yet. My belly is really high and the stretchy pants just son't stay up so I end up pulling my shirt up so I can yank my pants up - not very cute - I need stuff with belt loops so I can wear a belt. And - a lot of the maternity styles are tight fitting tops to show off the belly - the tent like tops just make me look FAT. I do see people wearing too short regularthes and sweat pants and stuff that should just be pajamas and not public wear - that's not me.

IMHO, women aren't necessarily wearing too tight clothes, they are actually wearing maternity clothes. That's the style of a lot of maternity clothes now, instead of the floaty, loose maternity clothes that have been around forever. There's a lady at church that wore the more close fitting maternity clothes and that was 5 yrs. ago. Of course, it was her first baby and she was slender to start with so the look was different and not something I would do. I also believe there are more women wearing their regular clothes that do not cover their ever expanding belly. Why? Too cheap to buy maternity clothes.

Because, right now, maternity clothes consist of capri pants, and a few awful t-shirts. I had to go to quite a bit of effort to find skirts, and my mother sent me plus-sized tops and dresses. And everything goes up to XL if you're lucky, so I guess bigger women just aren't supposed to get pregnant.

I guess I kind of think it's cool that women are wearing "regular" clothes. Although I bet a few months after the birth they won't be able to wear them anymore LOL all stretched out don't you know.
I was pregnant 25 yrs ago and hated so much the ugly tops and pants with the stretchy panel.

The styles now with the baby-doll tops, you can pretty much get by with wearing just today's loose top styles. I can't understand why more people don't just do that and then they could wear them afterwards. I don't like it when women wear tight-fitting clothes over their bellies when they're pregnant. That's what most Hollywood actresses do, so I guess that's what everyone else is doing -- they want to show the 'baby bump' as it's called.

My niece who just had her 1st and is tiny to begin with managed to wear her normal clothes all the way to her last 2 months. When they were to tight she wore her BF basketball shorts and big ugly t-shirts. She didn't want to spend the money on new stuff when she would only wear it for 8 weeks. On the other hand, I have always been a big girl and I didn't have to buy maternity clothes with either of my pregnancies. I gained 18lbs with 1st one and 24lbs with second. I did go out and buy summer dresses for the 1st one(not something I would normally wear but it is HOT here in the desert in the summer, LOL).....

If the fashions of today were popular back in the early 90's when I had my children, there wouldn't have even been a need to spend a dime on maternity clothes! Most of the tops you see lately look like maternity tops...that's just the style. Wonderful if you have a jelly belly like me! ~Lisa
