Angry Do those people know how much money that is?

My DH's birthday is next month and I was thrilled to find out that Lewis Black is coming to Nashville on that day. I wanted to get tickets only to find out they are $266 - $368 EACH!!! I just read his book and that ticks me off even more. Just venting

I know we hardly ever go to concerts anymore. The tickets are outrageous, then there is gasoline, and for us usually a hotel as we have to go far for a concert most of the time.

we wanted to see Lewis Black in Denver but tix were at least $75 each in a tiny theatre. We tried to buy some and of coarse they were sold out and only $200+ seats were available. Nope, not spending $400 for tix

Lewis Black is very funny live. It the show a benefit of some sort. When DH worked for Aretha Franklin she did a show in Baltimore that sold for $300-$500 per ticket but all the money raised went to the local children's hospital (I think, it was a hospital of some sort). The prices could be extra high because of that. I know when Lewis Black is out here the tickets are usually $50-$100 each.

I am not sure where you live but out in Ca. we have small Indian casinos that have great artists for decent prices. They all have awesome showrooms and great sound. Maybe see if there is a place like that near you.

I think the problem with these tickets is that someone found out how to override the 4 tickets per person and bought them all up. Then they could charge whatever they wanted.

What irritates me more than the ticket price is the $20 parking fee!! I just paid $200 for event tickets and now you want to charge me $20 to park in the North 40?? UGH!

I paid $100 each for tickets to see the Eagles back in 1994 (the Hell Freezes Over Tour), and the artist would have to be of that 'quality' (for me the Eagles are 'quality' as they are my favorite band and are also classic) for me to ever pay that much again per person. Of course it was just DH and I then so we had a little mad money that we don't have now to take the entire family, etc. I also think ticket prices are outrageous for pretty much every show, concert, etc., nowadays (I sometimes wonder if they take into account that a family of 4 or larger will probably not be able to afford it--or maybe they just don't care as today everything is about making the bucks). I think they are taking advantage of us actually, ha ha. I guess each person though has to determine if 'this is the concert of a lifetime' and they can't miss it, etc. A lot of the concerts I am seeing advertised, and the prices per ticket, I am thinking, "WHO do they think they are?!" Ha ha.

I love going to concerts but have pretty much been priced out of the market. Once in a while we can catch a break but pretty much anything over $50 a ticket is too much as we have to go to Vegas or Phoenix and have to factor in gas and lodging.
I would really like to see Cher while she is performing in Vegas but her tickets start at
$125. Oh well I'll live without.
I can't imagine anyone asking someone to go to a concert for a date. Yikes that would be an expensive date.

Anyone think that rising concert prices have anything to do with declining CD sales? That's what I kinda thought....have to make up the revenue somewhere.

The ticket prices depend on how much the artist charges and how many hands they need to run the show.
The venue pays for everything then tries to make their money back with tickets sells.

DH used to do sound for Aretha Franklin. Here is her set-up:
1 lighting guy, 1 Front of House sound guy, 1 monitor guy, band- 2 gtr, bass, piano, drums, 3-4 back-up singers, personal sec., and Ms. Franklin. All these people have flight, hotel, transportation and extra (about $50 per day). Add local crew- house sound guy, house lighting guy, 2 spot operators, 10 stage hands (to set up and strike the stage), 1 runner. Then you add in rental of gear- stage speakers, risers, mics, sound boards, lighting rigs, ect. Plus local band- horns, keys and percussion. Then there are venue costs- ushers, security, bar staff, clean-up crew, ect. They also feed the band and all stage hands working the actual show. I know there is more but I can't think of it at the moment.

It is not cheap to throw a concert. The casino DH works at usually only breaks even with their shows. They keep ticket prices lower because they figure peolpe will eat, drink and gamble while they are there.
