Anyone else wake up at 4am???

Oh I hate it. I usually go to sleep around midnight, and then I wake up and have to go pee (I know too much info), and then get a glass of water, and then my eyeballs are wide-awake and I can't get back to sleep. So, onto the computer for a while, then down to the couch to watch tv (really lame tv since it's 4am). Sometimes I can sleep a bit more, most often not. I just hate it because my butt just drags the rest of the day. I would prefer not to take any pills. I know old ppl don't sleep much, but I'm only 38 (alright that's kind of old to some of y'all). It's kind of a quandry, if my body is only sleeping 4-5 hours a night, maybe that's all I need. ? Yes, I am stressed right now about a lot of things, but not depressed. Anyone else going through this? I used to be a girl who could sleep ten hours at a time-I miss her!

I'm up, but only because I haven't gone to bed yet. Got to get out of this sleep schedule with school coming up next week!

I've only been able to sleep for hours at a time when I take a replacement hormone, otherwise I'm in the bathroom every 2-3 hours. But I've had this problem pretty much all my life so I'm used to it, doesn't really wake me up too much. And I don't turn the light on when I go. Maybe if I did get uninterrupted sleep more often I'd be less tired during the day.

I do it fairly often. I don't got to bed as late as you, though, so it doesn't bother me quite as much. I do go through phases where I'm wide awake at 3:30 or something, though.

How 'bout a cup of warm milk? I know it sounds so gross, but allegedly the milk releases some kind of sleep aid, like the one that's found in Thanksgiving turkey.

My mom loves warm milk when she can't sleep.

I have no sleep issues - I almost consider napping to be a hobby of mine... I know how I'd miss it if it weren't working out for me, so I feel for you.

Count me in. Insomnia, sleep deprivation, whatever you want to call it..... I just know I don't get enough sleep, not regular sleep anyway. I'll go for several days on 4-5hrs a night. Then one day I'll get about 10hrs because I'm so exhausted, and then the next night I won't be able to fall to sleep.

How about stopping all fluids by 8PM so that you do not have to get up to pee and forget the glass of water when you do get up?

This morning I was. The dog was whining to go out, so I had to get up and let her out. I did fall back to sleep tho, thankfully. I do usually wake up at least once or twice during the night.

A doctor told me that when we are younger, our kidneys secrete DHA (I think that is it) that slows the kidneys down. As we age, we secrete less and therefore, have to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom.

I can relate. I wake up to pee every night, and about 50% of the time I can't get back to sleep. I lay there with thoughts racing through my mind. I do eventually fall back to sllep and then have trouble waking up when I need to.
Also, I tend to stay up much too late at night.

I get up everynight to go potty too! I have for years and years. I bet stress has someting to do with your problems. I've had all types of sleeping problems-not being able to fall asleep, waking up shortly after sleeping and not being able to go back to sleep, not being able to sleep after going potty, etc... I used to be able to sleep 10 hours too!!! I haven't done that inn a long time and I miss it too!!!! The funny ting now is I've been drinking alot of caffeine lately and have been sleeping great!!!! lol Just a fluke I'm sure but pretty funny.

I do in the winter when the clock goes back. Now I get up at 5 am. I have always been an early morning person. I love it. I get everything done before most people are out of bed!

I have been doing the same thing lately. I am used to getting up a few times during the night because of the kids but lately I have been waking up at either 2am or 4am all on my own and won't be able to get back to sleep for an hour or two. My mother says she hasn't been sleeping well either. I keep wondering if its the bad air quality here or the heat. Maybe its stress or heck even the phase of the moon but I am ready to be done with it.

If by 4 you mean 8 then yes I am, everyday. Usually I wake up at 7:30 and listen to the kids get ready for school. If they are not moving by 7:45 I get them going.

Me, too. It works for me just about every time. I microwave it and pour it into a pretty little tea cup and sip it slowly. Then I go back to bed and can usually go right to sleep.

My DD had that problem (and she is in her late teens). She would wake up about 3 or 4 and then not be able to go back to sleep. Started having her take melatonin every night and she has not had that problem since she started, and that was over 2years ago. Might help you too.

I seem to wake up early and often lay there for an hour or longer but usually I do go back to sleep. Sometimes I wake up 3 or 4 times a night, sometimes to go to the bathroom but mostly just waking up. OP, I think stress has a lot to do with it. The more stress I'm under, the less sleep I get. I remember I use to sleep through anything and everything and now I wake up so easily. I remember thinking that only old people woke up so easy, LOL....I guess I'm now old! So Lynne, if you're old at 38 then I'm really old at 40!

I do have melatonin, but never take it before I go to sleep, since I fall to sleep pretty well since I am so tired at the end of the night. I have thought of taking it at 4am, but worried I won't be able to get out of bed before 4pm. So, did you have your daughter take it at her normal bedtime and it worked all night? The reason that I do have it is because I used to not be able to fall asleep at night-it worked like a charm. Gosh, don't know what's worse-not being able to fall asleep, or not being able to stay asleep?????????????

Yes, she just takes it at her regular bedtime. Sometimes she gets up at night to use the bathroom (not always) but has no problem getting back to sleep. It has worked for her for two years. Try it!

Unfortunantly I am a diehard night owl!! My little angel baby goes to sleep by 8, and usually I am so exhausted I fall asleep in my chair, sleep for about 2 hours, then get up and do my nightly things- bath, get online, get things ready for the next day. Then I have to get up bright and early, and drag all day. On my off days I take a nap when he does, on the days I work I drag around and kick myself for staying up so late. How screwed up am I ??!!!

I read somewhere that when you wake up in the middle of the night, it is a sign of dehydration, even if you get up to use the bathroom. Interesting.
