Question How much to pay for house cleaning???

I'm sure it varies from area to area, but, how much would I expect to be charged for the following???

To clean 3 bathrooms, 5 bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, living room and study,
This would include vacuuming all rooms, dusting all rooms, wiping down cabinets in kitchen, wiping down refrigerator top and front. cleaning inside and outside of oven, mopping floors in kitchen and dining room, cleaning toilet, sink, tub and mopping floor in bathrooms and cleaning inside windows as needed.

This would be done every two weeks.

Thank you.

I don't have a housecleaner but I know people who do it as a business and most get an hourly rate of $12-$15 an hour, depending on what is expected. They use their own supplies and do not do windows (at least the ones I know don't). I cleaned houses for a bit in college (so 10+ years ago) and I got $10 an hour then with a minimum of 2 hours.

Hope that is helpful

i have a 3 bedroom house, had started with both Merry Maids and Molly Maids at different times. I wanted a company insured, licensed, everything spelled out. Every 2 weeks it was $80. The 1st clean in both cases was $200ish, maybe $220 under the guise of a deep clean to get started, even though they both told me my house was clean.

One spilled bleach on my bedroom carpet on their second visit. They didn't just tell me, I saw it. I had to repeatedly call about this and I truly believe they thought I'd quit calling and they wouldn't have to deal with it. Finally they sent someone out to dye that area. The other missed many areas that were agreed upon on several visits. So in both cases, I stopped the service.

I'd like to try an individual, but haven't wanted to deal with starting over again after the first two negative experiences. So I clean.

My housekeeper charges a flat $10 to come to the house, then $10 for each hour she is here.
She uses my supplies. She does everything you mentioned, with the exception of the windows and
the oven. She does clean the blinds on the windows, but not the windows themselves. She also changes
the linen on all the beds, and does laundry while she is here. It is well worth it, believe me.
She also empties the dishwasher, and cleans the inside of the refrigerator.

I don't have a service do my house I have a regular girl come once a week. I pay her $400.00 a month so averages out to $100.00 a week but she does an awsome job and is so worth it. We have a great schedule and it works for me. Every other week she does a deep clean and off weeks she does just a regular clean. So this is what I get.

I have 4 bedrooms, 2 which are used and 1 is an office and one is a guest room doesn't need much. 2 full baths, kitchen, livingroom, family room and finished room down in the basement.

Every week:
Changes linens in bedrooms and washes them and puts them away.
Dusts
Mops
sweeps my area rugs
cleans the bathroom
cleans the kitchen
takes out all trash, washes all my trash cans
usually folds laundry that I forgot in the dryer and lays on beds.
Checks fridge and throws out questionable items. *note she does this because she knows me and knows it is ok.
Wipes down all glass and mirrors. *note I have 2 sets of glass french doors that have to be wiped down often due to finger prints.

Every other week same as above plus
Cleans oven
Pulls all the food out of fridge and cleans it inside and out.
Washes down cabinets in kitchen and bathroom
Cleans baseboards
Cleans window sills and around windows also wipes down windows.
runs a duster along the ceiling to make sure no cob webs.
Sweeps cellar stairs

I feel I get a great deal from her and I know I wouldn't be able to get the same service for the same price somewhere else. I have offered to give her more money because I feel it is worth it but she wont take it. I have used this girl for a few years so at the end of the year I give her a nice bonus around Christmas time and this works for both of us. I so love my cleaning lady. I am getting ready to move into a house that is bigger than the one I currently live in and asked her about new pricing for it and she said same price. Yay!

Keowa you so lucky to find someone like her. I currently have Merry Maids come twice a month while,
I'm going through chemo and radiation, to do floors, vacuum, dust, wipe things down, and bathrooms. They don't do any bedrooms and the initial charge was $220. Every two weeks it's $100. They are a mother and daughter team, they do an awesome job but I really think that its too expensive. The way I feel now though every penny is worth it. It is so nice to come into a clean house that smells fresh and sparkles.
Even after I am done with all my medical stuff I am going to figure out how to budget someone to come in every 2-3 weeks. Life is too short to spend cleaning

I pay $85 for every two week visit. Typical 8 room colonial (4 bed, 2.5 bath, kitchen, lr, dr, family room). Just the basics - doesn't do inside the oven or windows. They do the inside of the uwave though. Not the best, but better than doing it myself. I think if I asked for more or for a better job, they'd do it. I just don't bother to push it...

I agree with mudpuppy....life is too short to spend it cleaning!!

thanks for all the replies.

MudPuppy, I had read in the newspaper about a company that comes and cleans for free if you have cancer and are undergoing treatment. I'll see if I can find the sight and post for you.

I am pretty sure this is the sight I read about:

Cleaningforareason.org | The foundation that cleans homes for women with cancer

Wow - housecleaners here get $30 - $40 per hour. One of my clients has her house cleaned and pays $200 each week.

I pay a friend of my sister in law to clean my parents apartment 4 rooms every 2 weeks and she charges 55 I personally think it a little high only because my parents apartment is a school box lol i mean it so small every room and its only the 2 of them and to do not have any animals and she does it in one hour 55/1 hour is high however for now its the best my parents are sick especially mom and so at 75 years old both of them its one less thing they have to worry about . peace catherine

Yah know, I am rarely jealous, but heck, color me green with envy on this one! In our former lives (smaller house, fewer kids, fewer bills) I could afford someone to come in and clean on a monthly basis. It was so glorious to be out for the day and come home to a house where all the rooms were spotless at the same time. Keowa, my hat is off to you. Gosh, if I had the service that you have, I don't even know what I would do with that spare time. Well, yes I do-pedicures, manicures, massages....lol....Mudpuppy, so sorry for what you are going through right now. I hope that you can get in on the free cleaning. I had a really tough time keeping my house clean when my son was sick. I cannot imagine how hard it must be for you to keep your house clean when you are the one going through treatment.

Trust me I know how very lucky I am. Though I don't advertise it I do have health issues that prompted me to get the housekeeper in the first place. I have Rhematoid arthritis, fibromyalgia and a heart condition that I will be getting fixed with a pacemaker/Difib combo in Dec. I have also had 11 knee surgeries in the past few years. But that is really here nor there.

As far as time goes I wish I had alot of time. I work full time and also volunteer with animal rescues plus what I have at my own house for rescues. I still have my son at home and right now with the issues he has been bringing into our house time is tight. We are in the process of building our final forever home and again that is a time sapper too, and hopefully will be done in Nov. Though I will admit I do enjoy a good manicure and pedicure once in awhile

Mudpuppy I am very sorry you are having to go through chemo I have had family members who have done it and I know how very tough it must be for you. I hope everything works out and you get to feeling better soon.

The site that allinaugust posted sounds great I hope they can do something for you. If not maybe you can find a individual like I did. I watched the ads in the paper and found my person. I called her and we talked and decided what kind of service I was looking for then it just kind of progressed from there as the years went on. Her and I have become friends and if I am home on days she is there I will jump in and help, we chit chat and have coffee and I actually enjoy it and she appreciates the help as well.

Anyways this post has become bigger than I intended so i'll just close now.

I pay a girl to come in once every couple of months to do my floors, walls, ceiling, etc all the big stuff I don't want to do and I pay her $10 an hour about. We estimate how long it will take and then settle on an amount based on that hourly fee.
I also feed anyone who comes into my home a good meal and provide bottles of water all day. To me that is part of it. I would be mortified if someone came to do work and I had nothing to feed them.

I clean house's for my 2nd job & I charge $15 an hour. I'm in central FL. I usually take 4 hours or less to do a 3 bed 2 bath house. I don't do laundry, just put the dirty clothes in the utility room. I don't touch the garage. I load/unload dishwasher, clean kitchen (don't clean inside oven) pick up garbage all around house. clean rooms & make beds, Vacuum carpet/ sweep & mop tile. Clean bathrooms. I even helped pack & un pack after moving, so pretty much whatever they ask for in addition to my reg weekly cleaning.

mine sweeps, mops, dusts all the house, washes any dishes, empties the trash cans, takes any laundry out of the dryer and folds and leaves on my bed. cleans the bathrooms then sits in our bedroom and watches the soaps and eats. lol. she is my mom and this is something she wants to do for us and for my sister. gives her something to do . whatever I pay her, she spends on whatever she sees that she thinks I need and brings it down the next time she comes. she does my sister the same way.

In my area, that would cost around $100/visit, but the first visit would cost more -- maybe $200-$250.

We ended up getting a lawn service instead of a cleaning service because DH really hates yard work and he works so much he didn't have a lot of time to take care of it. The $50/week we spend on that is the best money ever!!! I am a SAHM so I have time to do housework and I don't mind it too much. Someday I will have a cleaning service, however.

Thanks again for the link allinaugust. I had the docs office fax my info so now I just wait for them to contact me. I have also given this information to the oncologists office. I have met so many people who could really use this help too. I am definately going to keep my eye on the newspaper to find an individual to come in and help me long term. It would definately be cheaper than Merry Maids...didn't realize until now that I was charged $76 an hour for 2 person crew.

Thanks for the kind words Keowa. After 22 months of treatment I am close to being done (fingers and toes crossed) with this nonsense and ready to get on with life.
