I have been teaching for a number of years. I thought that it would be an idea to find out what people want to know. I know what I usually cover. Do you ever go to parent night and come back with more questions? What do you want the teacher to let you know?

I think the most important things I come away with are:

1. The best way/time for me to contact the teacher with questions. Do you prefer emails, phone calls, etc

2. A typical day's schedule

We go every year. It's the night before school starts and it's when we find out what teacher our kids will have.

I like to know:

1) How they can be reached. I don't want to email them if they only check voicemail and vice versa
2) What a typical day looks like. It's hard at our school because the kids have "pull outs" for math, reading and music so basically at least half of the day, my child *could* be in another class with another teacher.
3) How much homework counts toward the grade: we don't think it should carry much weight other than projects and book reports
4)If I want to help and/or sit in on a class, is that okay and what is the process to do so
5) What kind of reward system the teacher uses: we HATE when teachers use food (especially sweets) as an incentive/reward for something. If that is how the teacher does his/her system, we need to know how to opt our child out and what alternatives can the teacher do for our child. For the record, the schools are not supposed to use candy/sweets as a reward but that doesn't mean they don't
6) If my child has any issues or problems, will we be made aware of them or do we need to ask from time to time?

I teach at a middle school where the kids are pulled out from classes all day....even then, though, the home room/advisory teacher knows yourchild's schedule and can provide you with all that

Mine are elementary school so they don't get the testing done to see what teacher(s) they will have for pull outs until Sept

I let them tell me want they expect of my ds and then i tell them my rules.Any time durung the year they hand me any thing i just said we all ready talk about this and want i expect for you, mY rules is if he is having a problem i do not want to hear about it a week from now call me the same day,after that i do not to hear about .If he not doing his work give him an f i quilt going out there i put that all on him he is in the 10 grade.I do no task about want he needs to do or grades.I just put it all on him only if the teacher do something really way at the way do i go ou there.

I think my head just exploded from others lack of education.
