Boy what a cruddy week and half next week can only get better right?

I got sick Tuesday last week with stomache issues and I truly thought it was a tummy bug, well they did not go away so went to Doctor on Thursday diagnosed with Diverticulitis after a CT-Scan ruled out appendicitis. Called me in some strong antibiotics gave me the spiel of worsening pain, fever get your butt to the ER, well I landed there Saturday and was admitted and have been home since Wednesday not fun to say the least.

This morning totally out of left field we lost one of our cats not the one with lymphoma, but one of our younger ones, Snowball a part Siamese who is 4 yrs old. Called the vet and her one vet tech lives by me is coming to get him and they are going to cremate him but were not getting him back can't afford it even though she offered to put it through the trust program for us. Snowball was what you would call anti-social somewhat feral I guess. The others are already looking for him, Mittens is howling his fool head off calling him kind of sad to hear it.

DS is sick with a sore throat, cough and the runs but the Pediatrician's office says he is fine even though this is day 5 of it and they don't want to see him. He has a fever which is why I don't get why they wont see him and his breath stinks to high heaven I think its strept and I don't need another ER bill thats for sure.

I just hope next week is better it has to be right?

Sorry to complain , vent etc but it just feels better to get it out.

I was also wondering if anyone has ever had diverticulitis and if they had any advice on food choices, diet changes etc I have been all over the internet and I am overwhelmed to say the least.

my aunt has your stomach problem, you just have to keep track of what you eat and if it causes you problems don't eat it again. anything with seeds really messes her up blackberries and such, also one thing will be fine today and then the next time she eats it, it will mess her up.
I'm so sorry you ended up with this.

My husband has Diverticulosis. Which many people have but don't know until they have diverticulitis which is the infection part. Like the other poster said, try foods if they bother you skip them. Basically it is pockets in the intestine which certain things like nuts and seeds and slip into and then get infected.
My dh stays away from nuts and seeds. He does not eat after 8:00 pm because that helps too. Eat a lot of fiber to move food along in the intestine.

They have me taking Metamucil which is NASTY tasting.... gonna try benefiber I hear you can put it in anything and not know its there.

I had problems at the hospital maintaining my BP it was going really low and I have high blood pressure it was not a pleasant 5 days thats for sure.

Heard about the nuts and seeds and popcorn and popcorn is like a staple for me on my weight watchers so I guess it goes bye-bye I will try to write down what upsets me, I keep wondering if all these years when they thought I had irritable bowel syndrome if maybe it was really diverticulitis, symptoms are very much the same, but this was not fun would truly rather have one of my kidney stone attacks instead.

I am so tired DS is sleeping again think I will go take a nap, I do appreciate the good thoughts and the diverticultis advice, I keep telling DH that at the rate I am going with foods I cant eat due to coumadin, kidney disease and now this I will be living off bread and water LOL so my sense of humor is still intact.

Metamucil makes capsules you can take with water - they have no taste.

DHs dr. told us to take 1 serving of Metamucil per day no matter how good your diet is, because it's hard to get the recommended amount of fiber even when you eat whole grains & lots of fruit & veggies and that too much fiber won't hurt you.

DH likes the kind you spoon into a glass of water and drink. I prefer to take the capsules with dinner.

What you said about your DS worries me. Some years ago, my Ex was sick, coughing, fever and his breath stunk like death! He started coughing one night and coughed up jellied blood.. yuck! Turns out he had walking pnuemonia!

I hope everything gets better for your family!

Sorry about your week from H-E- !-!. If your doctor won't see your son with your concerns and 5 days is a long time, I would start to consider looking for a more responsive, empathetic doctor.......if you think it might just be his office staff, I would definitely talk to him about that too.

My husband had diverticulitis & stated the pain was excrutiating. I am sorry to learn that you ended up in the hospital. Hope your son is feeling better. Sorry to read that your cat's health is declining. Stay strong and don't overdo things. Life can feel overwhelming at times, but sounds like you're holding on very well.

40% of the adult (over 40) population has some sort of diverticular disease. It can be managed with careful monitoring of the types of food you consume, The problems occur when an infection is present. The colon can perforate and cause peritonitis.

Hope that things get better for you.

Hang in there, feel better. So sorry to hear about your kitty. We had to put ours down a year ago, and I could not believe how hard that was. Hope DS feels better too-it's the worst when our kids are sick.

My yoga teacher said that diverticulitis is caused by poor posture (not sitting or standing up straight) and the consumption of red meat which gets stuck in the pockets in the colon and basically ferments causing pain and discomfort. For what it's worth...

I hope that you feel better soon.
