Question What is your favorite beach like?

Our beaches in NJ are full of variety (particularly in some areas, where man thongs run rampant), so I know we all have our favorite beach around here.

Ours is in a quiet town in Southern NJ. It has a small main street type of town, the beaches are always clean, you have separate beaches for surfing, swimming or boogie- boarding. Our sand will burn your feet off if you forget your flip-flops, but we don't have many rocks. It is peaceful and beautiful.

My main problem with almost all Jersey beaches, though, is the requirement that you purchase a beach tag for anyone over 12. You can buy daily, weekly, monthly or seasonal passes. The daily passes can run $6 per person in some towns, which is ridiculous.

Of course, my true favorite is Maui, but that's not happening any time soon!

Tell me about your favorite beach.

We used to go to the beach in Port Aransas, Texas 2-3 times a week when we lived there, I liked it because there wasn't alot of people or houses or business on the beach. It was nice and quiet and clean.

We love the Ga coast. They are quiet, not crowded at all and spectacular. The "bone yard" beaches are unbeleiveable. They are old growth live Oak forests that have been reclaimed by the sea so there are these huge dead oak trees on very wide beaches. Its very dramatic. They haven't been over developed so it still feels very natural. It also helps that they are the closest beaches to us.

my all time fav was a nude beach we went to while on a cruise. the sand was pink, the water was clear and you could see the floor of the ocean through it.
there is 2 that I really like here. one is oak island nc and the other is edisto island. not alot of people at either one, very clean , no THONGS !!!! no rocks to climb over. just nice sandy beaches where not alot of folks go.

Ironically I live in Virginia Beach and while we go to the beach here, it is surely not our favorite. Nothing compares to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. We love the beaches there, especially in Avon, NC. There is a fishing pier, but no huge hotels. You can drive your truck on the beach (most of the time). No tourist traps, shops etc. Just a beautiful beach to watch the dolphins at sunset.

Wink

I have been to many caribean islands. I simply we all do love all the beautiful warm waters with beautiful shades of blue. Now we went back to the U.S. virgin islands after 20 years of marriage and let our kid see how beautiful it was. One day we took a boat over to the small isle of St. Johns I cannot remember the name of the beach . However man oh man it was pure paradise like I imagine Tahiti is. As far as the beaches here on Long Island New York, yuckie poo lol. Peace Catherine

Where in NJ momshops? That's where I"m from. We used to vacation down in Sea Isle City and Wildwood. I miss the boardwalk. I haven't been there in years. I wonder what it's like now? I used to love playing the dime pitch and winning those big stuffed animals. I also liked to eat at Taylor's Pork Roll and Macks pizza.

I like PC Beach. The gulf is so much nicer than the Atlantic coast. Lanakai Beach on Oahu in Hawaii has to be the prettiest beach I've ever seen. Sanibel/Captiva is pretty as well. ~Lisa

I have been to many ocean beaches but my favorite is still a beach in a little cove on Lake Mohave AZ.
In order to get to the cove you have to come in by boat or fourwheel drive. We do the latter.
Because it isn't easily accessed we have rarely found anyone there when we arrive to set up camp. The lake entrance comes in and hooks to the left so the cove is not visible from the entrance. The cove is surrounded by tall rock walls that throw shade until mid day. Just our little piece of heaven.

I've lived in NJ for 18 years and I've never spent a summer day at the shore. I know, that's hard to believe if you know anything about Jersey. Everyone goes to the shore. I've been to Cape May in the fall and walked on the beach but never spent the day on the beach, same with Sandy Hook and Atlantic City.

The beach I love the best is the beach I grew up going to on Lake Michigan's southern shore. I spent my summers at the beach as a child and teenager but it really was a place we went to during all four seasons. Tobaggoning and cross country skiing in the winter, leaf watching and bonfires in the fall, walks on the beach in the spring. I'm so happy because I'll be there in a few weeks.

I love the beaches in Florida, especially the gulf beaches. My two favorites are on the gulf side, include Caladesi Island (located in a state park), very clean, natural and almost remote & Ft. DeSoto. The color of the water is beautiful, sand is white & neither has been crowded when I visit. Very comforting and fun, to say the least.

Well my favorite beach in San Diego is La Jolla Shores. It is more of a family beach unlike a lot of other beaches here. I also like the fact that there is plenty of parking. lol

Kapalua, Maui is absolutely breathtaking. Calm waters, great snorkeling and I even saw a puffer fish the size of a small watermelon in less than knee deep water. Most of Maui is beautiful, clear water. I didn't think there was any of those type of beaches here in L.A., but yesterday I drove up the coast and Malibu was beautiful as well.

As a former NYer, I totally agree with you. We would go to Jones Beach and I didn't even want to go in the water. You can't see you feet in calf deep water. If I wanted to go to a nice beach on LI, I went out east to Riverhead. There is a state park and campground there that was at the fork of the bay. That was beautiful.

I've lived in FL for the past 5 years and have been to many beaches on the southeast coast. All are beautiful. Some have nicer sand or bigger beaches, but one thing is the same, the water is always an aqua blue and you can see your see when you are in waist deep water. For example, I usually go to this beach in Jupiter with the kids(Burt Reynolds has a house in this town.) It's like a lagoon. I had my sunglasses on top of my head and I fell back and they fell off. I was in about 3 1/2' of water. I looked around and found them on the bottom. The water is just gorgeous!!!

So I would say, Treasure Coast, FL beaches are the best.
