Question What do you think is the "right" price for gasoline?

Nice to see the price coming down at the pumps a little....been under $4 here for a little bit, some as low as $3.77 that I've seen recently.

Some may think I'm crazy, but I really don't want to see gas go back to $2 or less a gallon. I think higher fuel prices drive behaviors in people that are good for the environment and good for people in general (spending more time at home with family).

I think $2.50-$3 a gallon would be a reasonable price for gasoline....giving enough of a pinch that folks feel it and respect it.

Crazy? What do you think is the right price for gasoline?

I think .99 sounds good...I feel like I'm in the car a lot but it's just running my kids around - my car is actually 9 years old and low mileage because I don't drive much for any actual length of time. I'd rather have the money for other things.

I'm really starting to see a lot of the Prius's around...they're really hot right now!

I always thought $3 was a lot until it hit $4. I think in the lower $2 range is ok. People can still afford their RV's and to drive to a vacation somewhere by car without it costing a fortune, but it still high enough to respect it and not waste.

It's hard to remember it under $1 anymore, I never even thought about how often I filled up back then, now I let the truck sit unless I absolutely need it and we try to stretch the gas in the car for every other week, it's an effort.

Interesting thought though. This country consumes so much of everything it is good we feel the pinch sometimes.

I wouldn't mind gas prices where they are right now if grocery prices would go back down. I put in $20 the other day ($3.55 a gallon) which got me 1/2 a tank. Within the past year, milk in my area went from $1.99 to $3.48 a gallon!

I agree. I wouldn't mind paying a little more for gas if we could get food prices under control. I think the high cost of gas has helped us as a nation to change our habits. I hope they stick. We would be so much better off if we could really cut back as a nation and get out from under the thumbs of the oil exporting countries and our own oil companies. They have too much control and too much of our money. Record profits while they are driving our economy into the ground should not be tolerated. We need more alternative energy and not made from our own food stuffs. We are headed in the right direction and I hate to see that reverse.

I agree. Everything has gone up so much at the store! Milk is over $4.00/gallon here at the regular store (I save a lot by getting it at Sam's), canned fruits and veggies are high and cheese is out of sight! I think it's all tied in together with the gas prices, though.

I think mid to high $3.xx per gallon. While no one likes to pay this price, I think it needs to be higher so people will conserve more, and we (as a nation/world) will finally get serious about alternative fuels and energy sources.

As far as food goes, I have seen a slight increase, but, nothing too major. We lived in Hawaii for a while, so maybe we are just used to it??? I rememeber in 2003/2004, a gallon of milk there was about $6 a gallon. I think prices have to do with where you live, also.

When I was a teenager it was about .63 a gallon -- I'd really like to see that again!

I think $2.50-3 would seem like a savings compared to what we have been paying. Keep it around there so that people can still afford to drive to work, while helping us stay focused on other sources for our getting around. I do think that the groceries is what is killing most people. We can cut back all we want on gas, but when there is not enough money for essentials~that is horrible.

Today, though we all know gas prices are subject to change, our gas is $3.53 at Sam's Club (the cheapest place in town). To me, I think that $2.25 or so would be reasonable for gas. I truly can't see it going below $2.50 EVERY AGAIN though...if it ever drops that low again!

I wouldn't mind seeing it under a dollar a gal. either. I'm still not comfortable with gas at over $2 a gal, let alone the almost $4 that we have now.

$2-$3 a gallon. That way people tend to *think* more about how much they drive instead of just driving for the heck of it.

Whatever the free market dictates. That's the beauty of a capitalistic society. Supply and demand works very well to alter people's behavior.

People who complain about $4 gasoline and windfall profits must not understand the concept of profit vs. profit margin. I don't hear anybody complaining if Revlon or Estee Lauder makes a 50% profit on their products.

Did anyone read today on MSN where a gas station was hit and they stole 30,000.00 In gas !... Wowza.

I would like to see around 2.50 or less. But, mostly I would like to see food cost go down a lot more than gas. Dh can go back and forth to work on 1 tank of gas a week which is 45.00. However, I went to the store the other night and got very little and NO meat at all spent right at 85.00.

BTW, Milk here is 4.89 for store brand and at wal-mart it's 3.88.
I really hate having to go to wal-mart for anything but what can you do when you are limited to a few places.

Wal-mart gas is only a few cents less than other places around so I don't buy their gas.

I agree with the majority, the mid $2 range.

Seriously...how much money do the oil Sheiks need? Also, everyone else is suffering the trickle-down effect of the gas increase, the major oil companies could at least keep their profits to a minimum and take a hit like the rest of us.

I would love to see what everyone says after a bad winter in the north.

All I think about lately is the price I am going to be paying for my oil to keep warm.

Almost everything you touch has gone up because of the price of fuel. I dont mind paying the high price for gas for my car because I can regulate that but I cant tell my family sorry your so cold.

Just want it to keep going down before the winter. The news in NewEngland is predicting that it will cost around $4,000 to heat a home here for the season. I have 2 tanks to fill.

Wow, I didn't realize that heating a home with oil was so expensive! We heat with natural gas but rarely even have to run the furnace and so our bills will probably be around $100 a month this winter. I feel for you...

Yup, I'm figuring we are going to spend about $1000 a MONTH for oil here . What are you gonna do, the kids can't go cold, I can but i don't feel right freezing them out. I have not used a credit card all year, but I just might have to if I can't manage to come up with all of that money.

I'm sure that with some thought and resourcefulness that many folks will be able to figure out ways to curb their oil consumption during the winter months as well. I truly believe that we have become wasteful because we could....but then again, I grew up in the 70s and its energy crisis...

I heat with oil, and figure I will have to fill the tank 3-4 times during the winter months. I plan to use my pellet stove to help heat the home. My pellet stove can burn pellets or corn, which will probably be pricey as well.
