At what age did your parents stop taking you on vacation?

At what age did your parents stop taking you on vacation and/or paying your way?

The last vacation I went on with my mom was the bahamas, I was 18 she paid for everything, after that she went on vacations with her friends, as did I which were not many. I guess as children get older they decide to stay home on vacations, memorial day weekend we did ashort vacation, my oldest son ended up not coming with us, but instead stayed home to have a party, that got him arrested (but that can be a whole other thread) needless to say he is going with us next time

I am 34 and I STILL go on vacation with my parents! Often they will pay for our room (if it's a weekend stay) and they will stay in one room and the kids, DH and I in another. If we go on a week long vacation, it's usually on either their or our timeshare and we split the cost of groceries

i am 36 and still take vacations with my mom...lol. The last vacation we went on was a disney cruise, it was a christmas present for me and the kids so she paid for the cruise. I gave her gas money to get us there and i paid for mine and my kids food there and back. She didnt ask me for gas money I just wanted to give it to her. I am hoping we can goto the beach next summer and meet some of our family there and hang out for a week!

I remember when I was 19 my parents went to the Outer banks. I had to work, so I stayed home.

Our parents took us to Cape Cod every summer for a week - all through our growing up years, and right on up through last summer. All extended family (myself and siblings and our families) were included.

We never went to places like Disney growing up. But we always did the Cape, and it became a great family tradition.

We never went on many family vacations. I remember Silver Dollar City and 6 Flags when I was in grade school. Then in 1970 and 74 we went to CA to visit relatives and went to Disney and Marineland. In '74 I was 16. Seems like there was another trip to 6 Flags in there somewhere but it was before '74.

Great (timely) question!

My son just turned 18 and I am right now faced with this situation.

We have gone to Disney every year, with the exception of 2 or 3, since he was four. The last few years he's been miserable, bitchin about it. Why don't we go somewhere else, I've been there a million times, blah blah blah. I have two smaller children, and personally LOVE Disney, so it's non negotiable. We do other trips as well, but this has always been our big one, either in February or March.

So now he's 18, with a job. I told him last week, we are planning our Disney trip, your choice if you want to go or not. He was SHOCKED! I get this, "why don't you want me to go???" I just can't win. So I told him, of course I want you to go, but if your going to be miserable and make it a big deal, then stay home. Oh ya, he definetly wants to go. Brat.

Personally, for me, as long as he wants to go, I will keep inviting him. But like I said, I have younger children, so my vaca's will be family oriented for awhile. Once all kids are adult age, nope, noones coming, I got plans!!!

Same for me, too. My parents would let my older brother and sister watch me. They were older teens. It was a big mistake because they would throw huge parties while my parents were gone. They were definitely a bad influence on me. It was so much fun!

I have a 20 yr old ds college student. If he is able to get the time off, he can come, for free. I would do that as long as he wishes to come with us. Funny thing is he is ALWAYS able to get the time off if we go to Orlando
I have already sent him on trips with my brother or uncle (both bachelors) to Punta Cana and paid for his trip alone, last year I sent him out to spend a week with my brother in CA

Same exact thing here, except I'm 41. This year, my parents let my kids stay in their hotel room. Woohoo!!

DH stopped going on family vacations when he was 13.

We didn't have much $$$, so we never went on vacation - I never went to Disney until I was in my 20's.

I was about 15..... however, since I've been married, my dad has planned a family trip for all of us a time or two, and picked up the tab.

My parents went away for about a week when I was 16 and 17. I had a friend stay with me when I was 16 and when I was 17 I told them a friend was staying with me, but I didn't actually have her stay.
