Dishwasher Mutiny - need a new one

My Dishwasher died, so it is time to buy a new one. Does anyone have recommendations for a decent dishwasher that costs under $300? I'm having a technological meltdown in my house, so so funds are limited for this particular item.
I'm not looking for anything fancy, just one that doesn't sound like a plane taking off and doesn't completely cleaning the dishes before loading them.

Does anyone have a less expensive dishwasher they can recommend?

Thanks - Chris

I can only tell you NOT Maytag. I bought one a few years ago because they were supposed to be so great and it's noisy and a cycle takes forever.

I don't know if they make dishwashers or not, but I've been very happy with my relatively cheap Frigidaire dryer.

I'm going to 2nd what Truble said about Maytag.

My dishwasher also broke a few months back. I 'm not ready to replace it just yet, But we have seen some good deals on Kitchen aid.

I also have a Kitchen aid side by side thats never given us any kind of problems at all. I also have a LG smooth top . The stove has been perfect since the day it was put in the kitchen.
Since both of them have been really good appliances maybe you should check into these brands.

P.s Both Kitchen Aid and LG might be over your budget of 300.00 depending on what kind of dishwasher you are in the market for.

I have an OLD Kitchen Aid, and I had the same exact model in my last house. Older than the hills, and still kicking. I'll be remodeling my kitchen soon, so I'll replace it then with a higher efficiency one. Thanks for the tip about not buying a Maytag.

Not for under $300 (but maybe close if you get one in white at an outlet/scratch ding store) but Bosch. They are great! Quite, clean well, don't break down. My cousin repairs appliances and he always tells me Bosch for dishwashers...always. That way you won't see me LOL

Whenever I need a new appliance, I head to the library and look at Consumer Reports. I don't always find what I want and I don't always get what they recommend, but it helps to see what they think of various brands and models.

I have a 15 year old Whirlpool that has a knob that won't turn without pliers, a soap dispenser that won't open, and rusting racks. But it still cleans the dishes. And needless to say, I'll be out there looking for a replacement sooner rather than later, so let us know what you end up with and whether you like it after you've used it for a little while.

We had to buy a new dishwasher in June when ours went out. We bought a Bosch...but it was a "return" model, so we got it majorly reduced. It had gone out of the warehouse with the delivery guys, opened at the home (the original purchaser's home) and she decided she didn't want it. It was never hooked up...but since the packaging was open and wires ready to hook up, Sears sold it as a return model for almost 1/2 the price. It is quiet and uses very little water and energy. We love it.

So... our garbage disposal broke on Monday and DH replaced it. I asked him if he checked to see if that could be the problem ... long story short, I don't need a new dishwasher

Hopefully I will be able to spend more on one when the time comes to repace it! With everything breaking down and three vacent rental houses right now, times are tight!

Thanks so much for all your suggestions. I will keep them in mind when it is time to buy!

I am so happy for you. Spending money on an appliance can be a harsh thing for your wallet. Thank goodness you don't have to buy one right now.

I have a Maytag. My complaint is that sometimes the dispenser door won't open.

My mother has a Bosch & loves it. I think her Bosch cleans better than my Maytag to be honest. My next dishwasher will be a Bosch.
