| Only a Reprimand?
I know doctors protect their own but the Arkansas State Medical Board has taken it to a whole new level! How can a doctor perform a tubal ligation on a woman without her knowledge or consent and only receive a mere reprimand? This doctor committed a massive breach of trust and possibly, endangered the woman's life while she was busy depriving her of the right to decide what she could do with her own body. No invasive procedure is without risk and who knows what would have happened if there had complications from this unwanted surgery? Especially, since she didn't even tell the poor woman that she had been given surgery! This doctor made a choice to secretly deprive her patient of the option to bear children. I wouldn't call forced sterilization a 'mistake' Dr. Shirolyn Ruth Moffett should have had her medical licence revoked immediately and be awaiting trial on criminal charges for her actions. Because as women, we aren't smart enough to make decisions about our own bodies. We need to rely on the state and feg gov to make those decisions for us.

I'm not sure, but it seems to me that when I've had surgery, I've had to sign a paper saying that they can perform whatever procedures they find necessary. This may fall under that but she should have been told afterwards and perhaps if her husband or other family was available, they should have been informed before it was done while the surgery was going on. If that was not in the permission form she signed, I would think she could get a whopping settlement.
