I think they make between 20-40% on each sale, more of the high-end items, less on things like deodorant and body lotion. I'm guessing it's on the lower end for the nail polish. However, Avon now charges me a handling fee of something like 75 cents per order and I don't know who gets that money. My Avon rep is a co-worker, but that extra fee definitely keeps me from ordering just single bottles of deodorant or body lotion sometimes and I wait for a bigger order.

The handling fee has always been in effect, per order. I am not sure why the rep has just now starting charging you for it (maybe she was being nice?). The fee is split 50/50 with Avon. When I was selling 10 years ago, it was something like .35 I think.. not sure. Maybe that was my portion I had to pay Avon. I never charged my clients, and just ate the cost for the entire amount. But then again, I wasn't having to drive everywhere to deliver orders (I did only my neighborhood) and the ones I did at work, I was already driving there! The books are very expensive for an Avon Lady. I was so shocked as to how much the cost for the books were. All in all, the profits are not that great for Avon. Sounds good on paper, but when it comes down to the wire you don't make that much. I just liked it because the more I sold, the bigger of a discount I got for my own stuff.

I used to sell Avon a few years ago to get discounts on my own orders. I had to buy everything (Avon books, paper bags, order forms, samples). I didn't make that much money because I just sold to co-workers.

I stopped ordering from the Avon person who comes to our office because of the handling fee. Now I wait until there is a code for free shipping with any purchase, or $10 purchase, and order online. Comes right to my house, and you can put your rep's name in so she will get credit for your purchase. I know they have to pay for the books, so I always put in the rep's name who leaves the books at our office.

I don't know when the handling fee started, but it hasn't always been in effect. I sold Avon a LONG time ago and there was none then and I know there wasn't one when I first started buying in the office. It started small, but it's gotten higher and higher. Thanks for the free shipping tip, Mitcham. I want my friend to get credit, but the nickel and dime fees really are annoying!

![]() I really spoke incorrectly when I said it has always been in effect. What I meant and what I said were two different things! What I meant was, it was always in effect when I was selling. Ack, thanks for the correction.
