Vent...No More Soda Or Water In The Fridge...

For the love of God, I can't understand why I'm the only one in this house who can stock the fridge with cold drinks. We keep all of the Capri Sun, Hi-C boxes, water bottles, and soda in the garage. I'm so sick and tired of going to get something to drink and there is nothing cold in there...it's empty! These kids simply do not get the concept of putting more back in there when they take the last one. They think that I'm the only one who can do this. Believe me, I have stopped doing it. Oh well, there just won't be anything to drink would be my philosophy. Sooner or later you would think that someone in this house would put a few waters at least in there. Nope. Nothing. Does anyone else have this issue? It drives me nuts...especially after I've done a bunch of housework and go to get a nice cold COKE, and there are none in there. Tons of warm twelve packs in the garage though! It's enough to make me want to go out to the local dive bar and get a cold draft Budweiser! ~Lisa

My kids do the same thing. I make them get drinks and put them in when I find it empty.

That is the route I might have to go. My parents have always had a refrigerator in their garage. Everything is always so nice and cold and well stocked! ~Lisa

We had an old fridge from one of our houses in the garage and got so used to it that when it died we went and bought a cheap one to have. It's a Hotpoint and it was about $300-something.

We have beer & pop in the fridge and then I use the freezer on the top for extra frozen stuff. DH won't let me have a freezer because he says we don't need to keep that much stuff, but we use the heck out of our garage fridge.

Same problem here, everyone but me is too lazy to put drinks in the refrigerator to get cold. So, they can just put ice in a glass and drink water or tea or soda out of the big jug, this week I refuse to put anything in there. It's been 3 days and so far no one has said anything. It's not like they are little, it's DH and DD is 12, so they are fully capable of doing it, they just don't. DD yesterday put ONE Powerade in there to get cold for her softball practice last night, LOL. Then when she got home from practice put ONE more in so she would have one to take in her lunch for school today. Then when she got home from school today put ONE bottle of water to get cold for her to take to practice tonight.

How long have you stopped doing it for them? Don't give in.

I say "drink one, replace one".

You might even stop buying the stuff to really get their attention.

I broke our daughter and her "sponge" friends of this. If they get one one of the fridge, they have to put one back before they can open it . After fussing for awhile, they finally got the hang of it. some of them are a little slower catching on but they all have it now. lol

All of mine do the same thing. Plus when the tea jug is empty instead of starting more they will just sit it on the counter and wait for me to do it. I couldn't tell you the number of fights that go on here for this kind of thing.

Also, DS decided to recycle the all the cans. The deal was the cans can sit on the counter til night then he is suppose to take them out and put them in their can. I just threw away about 10 cans. He's been warned enough!

My family does this too. I fixed it by hiding a couple of sodas for myself in the fridge behind things I knew they would never touch.

We have a little mini-fridge down in the family room and we're apt to keep it rather stocked, but it's not a big deal to any of us if there's not a cold can available. For the most part, we tend to pour them into glasses with ice anyway.... so it's not a huge issue.

I ordered one of the Senseo coffee pots when they had the deal that was mentioned here recently, and that's been wonderful to keep in the family room. I appreciate having the ability to make a single cup of something and not have to commit to a whole pot!

We have a faucet filter so I keep a plastic pitcher of water in the fridge. The kids are good about filling it after they get a glass of water. There's always a pitcher of Crystal Lite Lemonade, Pink Lemonade or Fruit Punch in the fridge and DS mixes it. We keep 2 bottles of Diet Coke in the fridge, one open and one new bottle. I guess I'm the only one that doesn't buy can drinks or juice boxes. DH takes a bottle of green tea to work daily and one of the kids keeps that stocked in the fridge.

Same thing happens in our house! I'm the only one who seems to know how to replace drinks and water! And Keowa, I also do what you do --- I 'hide' a few of mine in the back behind things, too! LOL! It's really frustrating. I mean, these warm drinks are right in a cabinet beside the refrigerator. Would it kill them to actually reach down and put them up in the fridge when it's getting empty!!

So glad to hear that this is a universal pet peeve. My kids/DH don't replace drinks or toilet paper rolls!

Lucky that my kids (7 & 9) AND DH replace toilet paper rolls. I don't expect the kids to replace the juice boxes/soda when it's gone because where the extra's are is out of their reach. When they are older, they will have to replace them when they get them out. We have a garage fridge that is for beer, wine, juice boxes and soda. We really don't drink much soda (just there for guests and/or to use when a rum and coke sounds good We do have the neighborhood kids raid the juice boxes in there and I just make sure during the summer especially that I fill it up every other day.

Oh, we never have these problems at our house. My dd's makes sure there is always about a 1/2 glass of water left in the jug when they put it back in the fridge and at least four squares of t.p. on the roll when they are finished

Sorry, but I couldn't help laughing out loud. Your DD sounds just like my 14 year old DD. She does the same thing sometime. Only puts in what SHE needs. ~Lisa

My dd is the same way with drinks/food, not the toilet paper though, she likes doing that. But she'll put the milk carton back in the frig with literally a swallow of milk in it. And she'll keep empty boxes in the freezer/pantry, like popsicles or granola bars. How am I supposed to know we need more, if she doesn't take the empty's out? I quit saying anything to her and now she just goes without until she throws the empty box out and adds it to the grocery list on the frig. Usually I notice it and either already have more hidden or have a mental note to look for them on sale/coupons. But she doesn't know this! I like them too occasionally, so I like to have a hidden stash. Nothing worse than wanting a popsicle on a hot day and finding an empty box in the freezer!

Jenn

Now that's funny-we actually keep our sodas/waters/juice boxes in the garage so that the kids DON'T drink them. Juice boxes and water bottles are only for lunch boxes, picnics, days at the beach, or longer car rides. Sodas are for the same, but also for special occasions-the kids are supposed to ask before they have one. Other than that, they can have tap water, iced tea, or Kool-Aid when I feel like making it. Jenn, I'm with you on the empty boxes. My kids don't toss them either. And I am not even going to mention the toilet paper rolls. I live in a house w/ 5 males-need I say more?
