Question Class Rings

I did a search and couldn't find anything, tried classrings and class rings. I feel quite certain this has been discussed before. Oh well, here goes again......

I didn't realize that rings ordered through the school could be ordered the first week of 10th grade. Back in the dark ages, we didn't get ours until jr year. However, I do understand ordering earlier and getting to enjoy them longer.

Our high school uses Balfour. The prices and quality seem comparable to Wal-Mart. Although, I did't like Wal-Mart's selection process as you don't see a preview of your selections. I really like the sites that let you build your ring and see the finished product. I checked out Jostens online and I'm not sure the quality is better but for their prices, they'd better be! I haven't checked Zales yet.

Anymore recommendations? Personal experiences?

TIA

I just made my last payment on my ds's class ring. He is a rising 11th grader. The company is Herff Jones. My son'
s ring cost $467...he picked white gold . Herff Jones lets you make payments up to a year..so that sure was helpful. My older son used Jostens. His ring was about the same price..again, he was able to make payments. My son was very happy using Jostens. I have not gotten the Herff Jones ring yet..but I am sure it is gorgeous. I saw samples and the quality is nice.

Classmates of my son's bought rings from Wal-mart. They look very cheap IMO. Not worth any money I would say. Herff Jones and Jostens have jewelry store quality, while the WM rings looked like something you'd get at a museum gift store..

I had to get my son's at a jewelry store because his school is so small we couldn't get the logo at WalMart, but I would have bought there in a heartbeat. I don't know many people who are still wearing their high school rings more than five or ten years later, so I really couldn't see putting a lot of money into it. I think we paid about $250.00.

We ordered our son's ring through Balfour as well. He didn't get int until 11th grade Ring Dance. DS went in there requesting silver. I requested BUDGET. The rep suggested we go w/ the fake silver (can't remember what they called it). She showed us side by side, how you really couldn't tell the difference. So instead of paying almost $400, we paid $200. After the first few weeks, I don't recall seeing it on his hand so much. Go cheap!

my husband is 40 and still wears his, but in my mind my boys wouldnt wear theirs much or lose it in no time so if they got one it'd be cheap.

We did the same thing. We went for the cheapest which was right around $200. He also got it in the 11th grade. Right after her got it he wore it contastly, now he might wear it once every 2 weeks. I'm so glad I didn't put a lot of money into it.

I think mine was around $100, got it made exactly how I wanted it and ordered from a small jewelry store at the mall. I don't ever wear it but I know where it is, at least! My husband commented just today that he wished he knew where his was.

My high school class ring is from Artcarved and my college ring is from Jostens. Both are excellent quality. Jostens will resize, clean and repair your ring for free for a lifetime. You do have to pay to ship it back to them, however. I don't know how their prices compare to WalMart or what your HS is offering, but I can tell you that Jostens is high quality.

I am 30-something only wear mine occasionally, but they are safely stored in my jewelry box. I also have DH's class ring (which I wore on a string around my neck for a long time when we first stated dating in college) For a boy, I probably wouldn't spend a lot of money unless they really like to wear jewelry. I have boys (in elementary school, so maybe my views will change when they are in HS), and I just can't see them wanting to wear a ring all the time and not losing it.

My son is getting ready to be a senior in high school and he decided he did not want a ring. I would have gladly gotten him one but he said that he would rather have one from his college.

I am good with this.

I got my college ring from Balfour. This is the company you said that offered at the school. It is very nice and cost less than 300 after taxes and shipping. they let you pay in payments. I got the stainless steel (forgot the name) and the color is a little lighter than white gold. Great choice if you are saving money!

My son is getting ready for college and never said a word about a high school ring. Works for me.

My high school ring is from Jostens. it is a beautiful ring and is of very high quality. It still looks great to this day! My college ring, however, was done by Herff Jones and it looks like cheap costume jewelry. It wasn't "cheap" either. I designed it, etc., and I love the design, but the quality just isn't there. The gold looks 'tarnished' and it is real, well I paid for real anyway. Something just isn't right about that ring and I never was happy with it. It is lightweight too, not heavier like my Jostens ring. I'd stay far away from that company if I had it all to do over. I don't wear either of them anymore since my hands have chunked up since having kids from swelling with each pregnancy I guess/weight gain. However, my husband does wear his college ring (out of college for 15 years) and it still looks brand new. I am pretty sure his came from Jostens also; I'll have to double check. In a few years I will order my kids' rings from either Jostens or ArtCarved if possible. I do believe those two are very high quality companies.

Herff-Jones has a lifetime guarantee. If you contact them through their website, they will tell you how to send it back. Even if it is older.

My oldest DD lost stones out of her ring, and we sent it back. They repaired it at no charge.

Thanks Toonces. I think I will check into that! I don't know 'what' is wrong with that ring, but it doesn't look like the expensive piece of jewelry it was. That is the company my college had set up to buy through--they did our graduation invitations also. For all I know they are a wonderful company with wonderful products; I may have gotten the lemon or maybe I got taken by one of the sales reps. Just never know anymore I suppose. It was 15 years ago though. Thanks again, I will look into the site.

Two of my girls have class rings from Jostens (white gold). Some of their friends got them at Walmart and they are really cheapo quality. No way would I get one there.

My youngest will get her class ring in a year and we'll go thru Jostens again.

My daughter is a senior and says she doesn't want a class ring. My hubbie still wears his. Should I buy her one anyway because she may have regrets in the future?
