Ok I have lots, but I think the one that sticks out the most is spending time with my extended family every sunday and having dinner at my materal grandmothers home with all my aunts, uncles and cousins. Sad to say my mom was one of six, 5 girls, one boy. So there would be my parents and 5 aunts and 5 uncles a total of 12. Today again sadly its just my mom and dad whom are left. I also had 19 cousins 12 boys, 7 girls. Again sadly to say there are just 12 left. Now mind you my grandmother who was all Italian lived in a small apartment, 4 littles rooms. Yet with that little kitchen of hers, the food that came out of there was the best. She truly did not have much space to cook with and not many cabinets. However looking back and knowing my grandma Jennie, she cooked only the freshnest items. She went to the stores the same day nothing came out of a can. All her spices and everything was bought that day. Anyhow everyone ate the same thing, which of course was pasta with gravy and meat. Even though is was not the biggest place, it certainly was a huge place of love and family. Today is very sad everyone has such big homes and its seems no one can ever get together, everyone me too lead such busy lifes. To me growing up in the 60/70's there were no stores open, it was all about family. So sometimes I close my eyes and imagine all my family members are all together for a huge warm sunday meal. Peace to all . Catherine

I was just thinking of mine this afternoon. We'd go visit Ocean City, MD every year. Rent a beach house and stay a week. It was fun ! I also used to play in a small forest by my house. Look for tadpoles in the creek. I shudder to think now how I could of been picked up by some child pervert. These woods were right outside DC and very remote...I'd ride my bike and make forts in the woods..

Ya know my mom tells me about her favorite memories and talk about safety issues. I guess back then my grandma was so busy raising 6 kids on her own since my grandfather passed away when he was 34 and my mom was only 9. she and her sisters and one brother had to grow up a little faster. My grandmother left my mom;s older sister Louise in charge. Anyhow my mom tells me that at 6. 8. 9 years old her and her siblings used to go to the movies all day by themselves. I still worry when my dd Caitlin had 16 goes with a few friends. Anyhow memories yes they are so prescious and I remember with my 2 brothers always going to the park and staying all day , there was no pool just a sprinker, that we kids would lay towels over to fill it up. We would swing on the monkey bars and the icecream man would come. Also always on the way home which we walked about 10 blocks all ourselves, we always stopped at our favorite candy store. I clearly remember every saturday nite my mom and dad would cook hamburgers in this big iron flat pan, it could kill you, if you ever got hit in the head with it. Anyhow my dad would fry ultra thin fresh french fries, I cannot still see him cutting them up. He also would make cooked onions to go with the meal. My mom would always have pork and beans and we would eat the hamburgers on toasted english muffins. To this day every time I spell cooked onions it reminds me of saturday night with my parents and my 2 brothers Sonny his real name was Peter and my younger brother Micheal. Peace to all. CAtherine

I was just talking to my BF about my childhood memories this weekend, after I heard how screwed up his parents were as they were growing up. After hearing how they were, I now appreciate what my dad and grandparents did for me even more. I remember my grandfather would walk up to this little store every morning to get his newspaper before he went to work and he'd always bring me back a bag of M&Ms. I remember my grandma would wake up and cook him breakfast, and I would wake up to see him leave them go back to sleep. I remember going pumpkin picking every year, celebrating my birthday every year (my crazy soon to be in-laws stopped when the boys were 8, after that the day was spent like any other ordinary day, they stopped Easter when they were 10 and Christmas at 15 ) I remember playing outside all day and getting excited when the italian ice truck came

I think mine has to be the day I learned to ride a bike! I was a slow learner.. no wait.. as my mom used to say I do everything at my own pace! I think I was about 7 or 8 when I finally learned to ride a bike. I just didn't trust it to hold me up or balance me.. poor mom.. she kept saying Susan, you think too much just jump on it and GO! So.. one day... me and mom were on our street.. she holding the back and running behind me.. she let go without me knowing and I was actually riding the bike and doing very well...until... my mom got excited and yelled to all the neighbors in their yards "LOOK! LOOK! SHE'S DOING IT!" I thought she was talking to me and I turned my head and looked at her and I ran smack into a neighbors mailbox! OUCH! But I learned how to ride!!!! YAY! Then of course it started raining and I had to go inside. Life was good back then ![]() Ah, heck, life is good now too!
