Land Line Phone Services!!

I know I probably sound like a broken record, but I am soo trying to cut my bills!! Anyhoo, I was thinking of changing my home number from BellSouth to Vonage. I know sometime in the past I saw a post about it but didn't ever pay attention to it. Do any of yall use Vonage? Secondly, who do yall have for your internet service? I currently have BellSouth, but am looking to change. I don't think Vonage has internet. I live in the country so Mediacom isn't an option. Please help!!

I haven't had Vonage, but DS did for a while. My opinion is that it's a good deal. It seems like a good price especially if you make many long distance calls.

You might want to check into Skype also. It's free Internet phone service. You can buy a Skype phone, or just use your computer with a microphone. I just got a web cam so I'll be able to talk to DS in Thailand and even see him!

Another thought, if you get good cell phone reception is to just use cells. We got rid of our traditional land line 4 years ago and never regretted it.

ETA I got my web cam hooked up. Skype is shakey. Cuts in and out some, but it's free and can see DS.

We have been cell phone only going on 12 months. We love it! We can go out of town and not miss important calls. Everyone in our family (out of state) uses the same provider so when we call them or get calls from them, it does not count against our minutes.

only go to total cell phones IF they work well at your home with the 911 system in your area. dont be the one who is calling for help and the phone is breaking up or your address dont show up on the 911 system.where I live, my cell dont work in the house and the 911 system dont pick up my address when I call. I dont want to be calling 911 for help and have to take my broken leg , heart attack, or another stroke out in the front yard and call then give directions. to much precious time is lost like this.

I use landline for local calls & DSL. Cell phone is used for long distance. I don't know anyone who uses Vonage, unfortunately.

One of my son had vonage and one only used his cell phone. When they both had children, they got regular land lines in case of 911 situations. My husband has health problems. I would not be without a land line.

Another exclusive cell phone user here.... I hung onto our land line, just because, for a long time. SO glad to not have that bill now.

our cells do not work in the mountains where I live..but if they did, I'd probably lose the land line.

Personally, we've never had good luck switching (insert your favorite service - phone, cable, internet, insurance, etc) providers to save a few bucks, especially for those services where a hook-up fee is required. When times are tough, sometimes you're better off just cutting non-essential services entirely....and I'm still old school and think that cell phone(s )are not essential, if times are truly tough!

We are a family of 4. We got rid of our landline over 6 months ago. We all use cell phones and do not miss the landline at all. Our bill is about $150 a month with the AT&T Family Plan and it is totally worth it.

DO NOT USE VONAGE! Horrid customer service (if you ever need it).

If you have kids, do not switch to cell only service. 911 service does not work the same with cell phones as land lines. If there is an emergency at your home, you want the 911 operator to KNOW where you are and a lot of cell service does not tell them that. I would love to get rid of our land land as well but keep it because of 911 and the possible need for it.

We use Comcast for phone, internet and cable. We have a package deal and haven't had any problems. It costs more than I would like but they do have excellent customer service (I have called on some questions I had) and I got to talk to a person and they spoke english I could understand (unlike Vonage where the CS agent could barely understand me...they use India for their customer service calls)

We have had Vonage for 3+ years. We love it! Of course when your power goes out or your cable, you lose phone service. We have had no problems with customer service, and when our router went out a few months back, they sent us a new one at no charge!

We still have our cell phones too, but we have been very happy with Vonage. If you find a friend with Vonage, have them send you a referral email. You will one month free and your friend will get two months free!

Do you have a problem talking on the phone (Vonage) and being on the computer at the same time?? I was on a call with someone today, and they have Vonage. They were trying to email me some pics while on the phone, and the call became very choppy.

Nope, only occasionally when the weather is bad we get choppy sound. But, there are adjustments that can be made to your service via their web page on how much bandwidth to devote to the phone quality.
