What have you done today to save money?

We are all trying to save money and stretch it a little further so I wondered what you all did today specifically to save some money?

Today I:

made more laundry detergent

planned out a weeks worth of dinners

staying home all day

I am going to try to purposely do something every day, maybe by paying more attention to what I am doing it'll help even more. Although I don't know if I can be any cheaper than I already am?

I am picking up a dress from the dry cleaners today. That means I am wearing something I already had in my closet to a wedding next weekend instead of buying a new dress. And I found a less expensive cleaners that is on my "Errand" route.

I am staying home all day except to take DD to and from school

I am planning on sorting through material, washing it and getting ready to sew , DD wants to sew some things to enter in the fair next week (4-H) so we will be sewing when she gets home from school. So she will make PJ's to enter in the fair, I probably will also make some to enter in the adult category. So we will save money on buying PJ's. Will probably sew some other things too but not sure what.

I packed DD's lunch for school, even though she wanted beefaroni (generic) today which was a little more expensive, it was still cheaper (even with the other lunch items added in) than the school lunch costs. Normally she takes a turkey & cheese sandwich but today she wanted something different.

I did end up sewing DD a flannel nightgown for winter.

DD sewed a pair of PJ shorts (she will work on the top tomorrow night)

I joined a bowling league as a "sub" instead of a regular. It only costs me $20 for the season and the person I am subbing for pays for the weekly bowling. So, instead of me paying $20 a season plus $13 a week, I save that $13 a week and I am already booked for over half the season I start today and it's just 5 min down the road (versus 20 min where the league I used to be one was)

I use corn starch instead of talcum powder.

Hey, sexysmurf, I used to do that. I didn't have to pay anything at all, and bowled almost every week. It's great also because you get to bowl with different people instead of the same team all the time.

I packed a lunch for my ds to take to practice today. The kids get a break for dinner and I usually gave him a few bucks to go to the fast food. Today I have no cash so I packed him a lunch. He is not happy about it, but he'll live.

I made my own shower cleaner today for my Scrubbing Bubbles daily dispenser that you put in your shower. I made my own and am trying it out instead of forking out $$ at the store. Hope it works!

I packed DH's lunch to take to work.

I'm staying home all day.

I'm not using my dryer and hanging things outside.

I'm turning my thermostat up a degree (or two) to save more $$

I made kool aid instead of drinking pricey soft drinks

In the saving money catagory I am digging up and repositioning my clothes poles. I am making the lines longer. I was just uning them occassionally but now we are going into all the time mode.
We do have errands to run but the list is made and the route is planned. I also will be using a GC and coupon for lunch out. We haven't been eating out much but with these two measures it's our "splurge" today.

In the making money catagory, I spent a couple days last week being camera bearer/gofer/striker/lumper while my SO was shooting pictures of a business for advertising purposes. We will deliver the work today and pick up a check.

I use the library to borrow books and movies instead of purchasing them. This saves me 100%. I head to the library once a week on the way to soccer practice, so I save gas on making it a two-for-one trip.

I'm home sick, so I'm not eating much and I'm saving money on the gas I'd use to get to work.

unfortunatly not much, I was going to be staying home all day when I get the call "Mommmm can you take us to the cleaners to get our uniforms?" <him and a friend which somehow turned out him and two friends> then I have to go back over to his friends house later to pick up his unform there <one of the friends has an older brother in ROTC and helping them both get their pins on and shined up> so he doesnt try to ride his bike home and carry his ROTC uniform without dropping it.

I carried my lunch to work today.

Now I'm off to see if there are any coupons I can trade for.

My little man's wearing a cloth diaper, which will be dried on a rack outside, and he's breastfed, so we're not buying diapers or formula.

Go to the dollar store and buy the dollar daily cleaner. Unscrew the top of the scrubbing bubbles. You'll have to use pliars but it will come off. Refill with dollar store stuff. Works just as good.

Today it was nice enough to turn off the A/C well actually we did it last night.

We sat on the deck most of the afternoon, so no TV on.

We cooked dinner on the grill

De-tabbed and crushed aluminum cans for our recycling that we do for extra money

I started washing clothes about a month ago in cold water not sure if there is any difference yet in my bill we'll see next month I guess.

I use coupons for those items I dont/cant get at Aldi or Angel Food ministries

I use cold water in the washer for everything except towels and sheets.

I have been taking my lunch instead of buying at work since I started back last Tuesday.

I don't have the TV on in the background tonight, so that is a start right? =)

To save money today, I have done the following:

I stayed home today & slept
I prepared dinner at home since I wasn't working tonight
I went to the dairy to purchase my milk, 1/2 & 1/2, and butter
I checked out some online shopping but didn't purchase a thing
I brewed some coffee this evening, rather than running out to Dunkin Donuts/Starbucks for a cup

Subbed at school. Okay, so it's making money, not saving, it but I certainly spend less when I'm busy!

I bought two packages of hamburg 90% at Sams for 99¢/lb...11lbs total! I made a meatloaf, mock cabbage rolls, meatballs in Italian sauce, and stuffed hamburgers. Cooked everything except the stuffed burgers. Divided things up and froze half for quick meals or snacks.

A/c flipped the circuit breaker. Called a small independent a/c guy who i used two years ago and trust. He saudered three wires...total bill $110.00. Thank heavens! I was afraid it was the big one!!

I am breastfeeding (not purchasing formula) :-) Also because of the C-section - not driving, thus saving gas.

I am swaping clothing with another mom that just had a girl, since she is done and I am done it gives us both "new" cloths for the babies.

Recently I have been cutting bcak on PC time...I shut it down for part of the morning and afternoon - I am notcing a differance in power usage.

Today I sewed DD a pair of PJ's (I used material I got at a thrift store for $1 last year)

Packed DD's lunch for school

Later today will run errands when taking DD to the orthodontist (50 miles roundtrip) have to do other things to conserve gas, can't just go to one appointment, will go to Hobby Lobby, grocery store, etc.

Will double coupon shop while in town.

Had some bagels donated from a local bagel shop for the teachers who are at school today testing students. Also had a neighbor who was going to the store - pick up some $1 cream cheese and $1 butter for the teachers. Dropped off the bagels when I picked up the kids from school yesterday so that I would not have to make an extra trip.

I'm going to eat "dinner" at the Embassy Suites Manager's reception, instead of buying something somewhere. So I spent >$100 to save $5...LOL....ok, so not quite. But I did get the AAA rate and saved 10%.....teehee...

I told my dd no everytime she asked if she could have something while we are in the store.

Instead of expensive shoes for her from Kohls (that she'd destroy quickly), we went and got 2 pairs of pretty ones from Payless. Costs only $21 including tax for them.

I didn't go out to lunch at a restaurant with my coworkers. I went to the mall to return some items at Chicos and Aerosoles shoes. I didn't need those things so I saved 75 bucks. I ate a $3.99 lunch special at the food court. I'm rarely go to the mall anymore. I'm just wearing the clothes that I have.

I hung up jeans to dry instead of drying them. I would have hung up my entire load but we can't have lines due to our HOA so I have to dry them inside and I am limited to what will fit on one rack and over the shower rod.

The boys and I ate lunch at home, despite their pleas for fast-food. I made tuna salad and we had that on some bakery-delicious-yeast rolls that my mom brought over the night before. They each had three sandwiches! I had some homeshow deliveries to make, but waited til I had to bring DS to work to deliver them-just got to make a big circle. And while I like to go out on Friday nights as a break, I just pulled out a frozen lasagna, and called it good. AND, I let DH take the minivan to work today-better gas mileage than our Trooper or Expedition. Wow, we didn't spend one extra nickle today-maybe there is hope????
