One of the ways hackers can get into your account is by choosing random combinations until they get a hit. Not only should you change your password on your email, be sure to also change your "secret" question and answer. A hacker would have noted that. A trojan or keylogger could also obtain this info. Be sure your anti-virus is up to date. |
| ||||
| Sounds like you have been hacked and a KEY LOGGER program has been installed on your computer. A key logger means every time you hit a key on the key board it saves it and gets recorded on the virus program. Then the hacker can "decode' that info. Could have been there for months and someone kept trying the passwords you have on a number of sites till they found it worked on Paypal. This or maybe w/o you knowing you opened a email that wanted info about your account and you clicked it, but it wasn't from paypal but from a hacker. SS this happen to you. |

My PayPal was hit about 2 years ago too. There have been many problems with PayPal and I do not trust them. So, when I absolutely have no choice I use a card that is only for PayPal purchases and keep no money on it. I keep getting emails from PayPal asking me to add my bank checking account to my info. NO WAY!!!

This happened to me about two weeks ago. I had over $100 in my PP account. I received two emails within a few minutes that a purchase had been made (both for an online video game) for $50 memberships. I thought it was just spam email until later that day I went into PP to pay for a coupon purchase and found out my account balance was zero! Thank goodness I checked it because I sometimes go for months without using PP. I filed a report with PP, they put a temporary freeze on my account, and the next day they had the money back in my account. I was very impressed with how they handled the whole issue.

| Did you try logging into your account and you couldn't get in? A few years ago I too received an email stating that my password had been changed. The password had not been changed as I could log into my account. The email was just spam trying to obtain my email and password. |

It's not just happening w/ Paypal, it can happen with most banks too. Someone took almost $9000 from our checking acct. several mos. ago. It was taken in weird increments-all amts. were under $2000. I think there were four electronic debits taken. I check my acct. online, so someone must have had one of these programs on me too. It's not a good feeling is it? Sorry it happened to you, and happy it was resolved so fast. Our bank was awesome-all the $ was back in our acct. in a few hours. The darn thing is, that I asked how they were going to handle the situation, and I was told that since it was such a "small" amt. (maybe to some, but it was all I had!) I hope Paypal will take action. This is not fair!

I did not try to log in--I gave up on Paypal a long time ago. I called the number listed on the email I got and finally got a human who transferred me to another human. He told me somenone had been in my account but found nothing since there was no money there or current info. I was just lucky!!!!!!!! I changed my email password, but I cannot find how to change my security question. I use Yahoo. Can anyone help me do that? |

A person should never click on links in emails nor use the phone numbers listed. Use only the website to log in and find phone numbers. When I've called PayPal, I've never had any trouble getting a human. |

Yes, make sure by looking at www.paypal.com and finding the Customer Service phone number... If you called a phone number in an email, it might have done you more harm then good. I think I'd close the account and start fresh at some other time when/if you ever need PayPal again?

I just checked my paypal account and found a payment made on June 10th in the amount of 96.00 to a company I don't recall ever doing business with. I filed a dispute in their resolution center. I certainly hope it gets resolved. I've successfully used paypal since 2002 for small purchases. I don't think I trust it anymore.
