I take my invalid mother grocery shopping every Saturday. Some store have so many displays in the aisles it makes it almost impossible to manuver both her wheelchair plus the cart. I can't shop at Stater Bros. because of this - their ailses are too small and littered with displays. We love Alberstons - the store is huge with wide aisles. I can actually manuever both my mom in her wheelchair and the cart around other shoppers fairly easily there. It is also the cleanest store around and has all the amenities: deli, bakery, meat counter, pharmacy, etc.

My local Kroger was really awful with sloppy aisles and displays. I finally sent a card in to corp. to complain and guess what ? They no longer have them there !

Kroger is my favorite grocery store. Our store is set up kind of strange with floral in the middle of a bunch of aisles, but I got used to it. They are moving the store across the street so I can't wait to see how it changes. And if I hate it they are building one with Starbucks in it 2 miles away.

The store that's the least "shiny" around here is most likely to sell fruits that are moldy, and outdated boxes of cereal.

I love shiny floors and dusted aisles! It makes me feel like all the food is fresh! Funny, but true- at least for me.

I agree! To me, cleanliness is important. If I smell rotting produce or meat when I enter a store, I am very unlikely to shop there.

Otherwise, setup and organization don't factor in too much because my choices are rather limited. I shop at the store with the lowest prices!

Working at a market it is funny to hear the responses. We have a really neat floor with a shiny black floor that gets re-waxrd every couple of months.

unfortunately we had to resort to the locking shopping carts a couple of weeks ago because rows of them were dissapearing out of no-where

That's horrible! What would anyone need with a row of shopping carts?

Some people are nuts...

They take them to use at their own small markets. Gee I guess that's a way for them to save on costs

I can't stand a stinky store. Totally turns me off of buying groceries and I will leave. Otherwise, I can deal with most everything else. Except moving things around. It irratates the crap outta me. If the toilet paper has been on isle 4 for years and years you don't need to move it to isle 7. KWIM.

Our Jewel is nice and clean, pretty wide aisles. All Aldi's are the same. Our one local mom and pop grocery store isn't the cleanest but they have good meat and cheaper lunch meat.

What ticks me off is when people shop and leave their cart in the middle of the aisle, so no one can get by.

Cleanliness is very important to me. How they treat the store is how they treat the food and how they treat ME.

I cannot stand dirty shopping carts and I stopped bringing a blanket to line the carts last winter when everyone made fun of me.

I love my Winn Dixie!! It is soo clean, and the employees are so nice!! For some reason when I walk thru the doors I start thinking about what all I can cook. It truly is a pleasant experience to shop there.

I work at WM, so I shop there mostly for convenience alone. My alsolute favorite store is "the Middle Eastern Bakery". Its a small little shop, run by a Lebanese gentelman (my DH is Lebanese, and this man has taught me alot about their culture). Besides the bakery goods (very inexpensive), he has a small grocery shop, specialty middle eastern foods and spices and the best produce I have ever seen in a store. Almost like a farmer market.. Everything it old in the store, including the cash register and scales, but it is immaculately clean and organized. Very quaint really. I buy the produce I dont grow myself there, and other more difficult things to find like tahini and red lentils and bulgar wheat. Much cheaper than Wegmans.

This drives me bonkers as well!

But, I have been guilty of it as well. I think there is something that happens to people when they find somethiung that catches their eye, it's like all sense is gone of anyone around you! LOL!

I hate a dirty store. A messy store I can deal with but not dirty.
