Anybody notice that Miley Cyrus...

seems to be moving away from the bubble gum image she had six months ago?

Maybe it's just me, but that "Fly on the Wall" video they keep playing on Disney seems a lot more "rocker" than "cute".

I really don't pay all that much attention to her. I really think Disney pimps these kids in contracts with them . The twin boys, Zach & whatever his name is, that live in the Tilton hotel..they are like my ds's age (16) IRL, but look and act like they are 10 on their show . ( To me that is )..I think the Asian girl on the show ( forget her name ) is 25 but supposed to be a young teen. Hannah Montana annoys me, I just saw it a few min ago with Dolly Parton . The brother just annoys me to no end. I am sorry I sound so down with this..

I haven't seen the video or the show. My 7 year old DD and my 9 year old DS could care less. They don't like *any* of the live shows on Disney, only the cartoons.

Isn't she like 16 or something? If *I* were that age, I would want to start getting away from bubblegum and moving into more mature things...not slutty or nasty but more mature for sure. Your audience has to grow with you or you won't have an audience one of these days but that's just my opinion

I think she is just growing up. She isn't a little girl anymore. She is a young lady. Many young stars don't ever make the crossover from child star to adult. I am hoping that she is able to make that transition, and have success as more than just a *bubble gum* star....

I have noticed and I am trying to stear my 9 year old away from her. The problem is she has too many little girls who idolize her and overnight she grew up.

I have noticed she is getting away from the "Disney look." She has all those pictures of her showing her bra, in the shower with only a wet white tee shirt, etc. I think she is getting to the age that she wants to feel sexy but being that her fans are around 9 it is not a good thing.

I agree with the Zack and Cody thing. Those kids are just too old to be acting like little boys. The show needs to allow their characters to grow with the boys. I did not know Brenda Song was 25. I thought she was a teenager too.

I have noticed myself.
I had to change the Disney channel from my daughters when that 7things I hate about you or whatever the song is called came out.
My youngest daughter really likes here but I don't want her to be seeing little girls crying over boys or anything.
where is the girl power in that?
lol

It's all well and good for Miley Cyrus to be growing up IRL. However, most of her fans are NOT in her age group - I'd venture to say that they are usually between like 6 and 13. So if she begins to look for a more mature audience, and decides to "grow" in the entertainment industry, what are they going to do with all the billions of dollars worth of little girl lunchboxes, pocketbooks, fake tiaras, toothpaste and glue sticks (yes - even glue sticks!) that have her image slapped across the front of these items?

There needs to be a little forethought put into the commercialization of a kid. This family was paid millions to place Miley Cyrus in the position of being an idol to millions of little girls. Do they not think they owe this target audience a little bit before she redirects her "talents" with a new, more sexy image? How unfair to all of the little kids, who will obviously witness all of this, until their parents pull them away... JMHO, of course...

She is growing up, she is not a little girl anymore. I think it is hard enough to be a teenager, without having to worry about acting like a little girl, when you aren't one anymore. It may not seem fair to you, but in my opinion she has every right to grow up. I think she owes it to herself.....to be who she is, and not pretend to me a little girl. Its her career and her future, and it looks to me as if she is trying to take it to a more mature audience, and thats her right.
I remember watching the same thing happen years ago, when my oldest daughter liked the Olsen twins. They too....eventually grew up. Its just part of life....

Maybe I live a pleasantly sheltered life, but to me, this isn't 'growing up'. She skipped a step or two and went straight from 'little girl' to 'girl in a wet white t-shirt standing in a shower singing and semi-gyrating'. At 15, those aren't things she should be doing whether a star or not. Most girls don't go immediately from middle school straight to sex symbol without prom dresses, homecoming dances, and first dates in between. That's the stage of growing up most girls her age are in, and I can't imagine that it's healthy for *her* to be where she is now at her age.

What I thought when I saw her latest stuff was that the Vanity Fair stuff was probably very much done on purpose and that they weren't shocked and surprised at the image they presented. I think it was a calculated 'break-away' event for her.

I actually said in my first sentence that nobody should dispute her need to grow up in real life (IRL). But she and her family have been paid MILLIONS and millions of dollars to market her image to her little kid target audience. She and the Cyrus family and the Disney corporation willingly made her into a BRAND that has catered directly to little, impressionable girls.

I DO see that as her/their problem. When a person sells their wholesome image primarily to children, they have a responsibility to maintain something - in this case, a certain sense of innocence - at least until the lunch box rusts up a bit...

Will she, though? I'm not counting on it, and I never did. Unfortunately, many parents have.

We've all watched this happen before. A young kid decides that the 13 and under crowd isn't who they want to "wow" anymore, and they start doing more and more questionable stuff. Don't forget - she's still a kid - she JUST turned 16. Can't we all wait a little longer to see the "growing up" antics that became all too familiar - a la Britney Spears?

Wink

I personally also think she is getting older and the Hannah Montana show is growing too old for her to do anymore. I see her moving on to more mature parts. I only wish for her to enjoy her childhood and sincerely hope she does well and does not get messed up alot like, a like of these childhhod stars. Time will tell , she is a very pretty girl and would be sad to anything bad happen to her. Peace. Catherine

My DD is 7 and she likes Hannah Montana (has a poster on her wall). We had a talk before she heard about all of the pictures that Miley took that got out. She knows that Hannah Montana is a character on a show and she is pretend. And that the girl who plays Hannah is Miley and that she's an actress. So she acts things out.

Hopefully that'll suffice until she gets older and has more questions. But I'm always honest with her when she asks me. So I'll just tell her that sometimes people make bad choices and that taking pictures that make you look anything but nice is a bad choice.

Well see how far Miley goes until I have to pull the plug. Hopefully Billy Ray will reel her in before she pulls a "Britney".
