Not trying to get a heated debate going like the other political threads on the Election Board, just wondering. That's why I put this post here, and not there. I have it on and really enjoy listening to all the speakers. I am hoping Ted Kennedy does indeed speak tonite. Caroline Kennedy is such a class act, too. What an absolute testament to her parent's legacy.

Nope, it's going on an hour away and that's enough for me. Obama is not even here...won't be til Wed or Thurs morning. I like the debates between the candidates but the conventions are so not my thing. Won't watch the Republican one either.

Me me I am watching I am a very very liberal left winged democratic person to the end and cannot wait to get rid of bush and hopefully Obama will help this country , because we truly truly need hell. Again I do not want any trouble because I know talking about politics can get heated, but personally this is my choice and I sincerely hope we may remove our troops and bring them home safely. On a finale note its about time we will have a Black American as a president, its so over due and perhaps one day we will also get a women , I just want them to be democratic. Peace to all Catherine

Ok, I guess I have a stupid question here: WHY do some people who are half black and half white (as Obama is) say they are BLACK and not WHITE? I guess I never go that. If he wins, to me, he's not a "black president"...he's the person who happens to be president. He is both black and white if you want to get technical I suppose. Why can't he just be "a candidate for president?"

Ok You must have read it wrong I will say I am gald to see a Black/white american runing for president and btw it is a bit over time we have elected a black american into the office, do you think not, do you think black americans do not belong here, it was past their due. In fact i wsh is dr Martin Luther King was alive he would have made a wonderful president, did not mean to step on anyone's toes. Hope this clears things up. Peace , Catherine

One-drop rule - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Well, that is an easy question to answer, if you have one drop of black blood, you were considered black. If your mother was black, you were considered black. If Borack Obama showed up at your doorstep to date your daughter, would you think "Nice looking white man" or would you think "Black Man". It is history that to be Black in America was clearly defined as having one drop of Negro Blood.

Valorian , Hon I am not turning this post into a politican debate, i just merely spoke my 2 cents worth into that i am a proud democrat and the orginial poster asked who was watching the democratic convention, thats all. I honestly do not want to see any posts about politics because it becomes too heated. Just say you will vote for and that should be the end. peace. Catherine

| I don't care if we have a male, female, black, white, Asian, Latino, whatever president as long as it's a GOOD president. I do hate hearing stuff like the above quote though. Should we elect someone just because he's Black? A woman? I sure hope not. We need someone with experience (which Obama does not have) to lead this country. Not watching too closely 'cause it's rather boring. The debates however will be great!

Ok allI am saying is that no matter what the color race or creed or religion we need someone new in the white house. Period. Its time for change and whomever that person may be, they will be better then what bush has done, but again my opinion. Why is there so much discussion about a Black American becoming president or a women its is due time As far as experience, any job we enter into we may not always have the best experience, But I am confident Obama will bring this beautiful countty of ours back and we sure need the help. Who ever does get elected i will admit, does have a huge work load ahead of them. This has been the worst 8 years ever, if you agree with me then fine, if not then thats fine too, We all have our own personal views and we all should listen and respect all views. Personally has i have sent before. I wish John F. Kennedy Jr. lived long enough to become president. I feel he would have made a wonderful president. So we will have to see what happens in the future. Peace Catherine

Valorian, I posted here to try and bring in people who would otherwise not get involved in the Election Board. Just a simple question of who is watching, a very non debateable question, or so I thought.

The answer requires a simple "I am" or "we are"--not some long diatribe about how liberal you are, or what your beliefs are. For example, jaded answered and made a comment about Caroline Kennedy's speech. You don't want to see any posts about politics, but yet you've made several in this thread. You are some piece of work lady.To answer the original question--I did not, nor do I plan to. How many speeches do we need to hear on the virtues of any particular party platform or candidate? (this is true on both sides of the aisle)

I haven't watched it, but I should have tuned in to watch Caroline Kennedy. She's a wonderful lady...a real class act. I wish she was running for President! I'm sure JFK and Jackie would be very proud of her. ~Lisa |

I did not watch. Both parties have their candidates. I heard it costs $50 million to put on the Democratic convention. I'm sure the Republican one will be in the same range. I wish they'd cancel both conventions and donate the approx. $100 million to charity. Think about how many people could be helped by that? - homeless, food, shelter, insurance for children, flood victims etc. Lisa

$50 million is for security for both conventions. I had not seen a figure for actually putting on the conventions. While I do like to hear the "messages" and speakers, it does not influence my vote. I agree, the money could be spent better, to do more good.

Totally off subject, but I happened to catch a convention interview with Jimmy Carter. His left eye looked terrible! Does anybody know if perhaps he recently had surgery? I could hardly focus on the interview because I kept looking at his eye!

| Absolutely. I'm watching all week, especially Thursday. For those that are watching and don't want to see the commentaries, between-break interviews or pundits' talk, CSPAN is the channel to tune in.
