Just curious as to your thoughts on this...bathing suit returns

What do you think about returning a bathing suit that doesn't fit? I know that no store would EVER take back a bathing suit in the past. I think it was a law or something. I guess it would be the same as returning underwear. If the suit touches your cooch...well, you get my drift. Nasty... Anyway, has the law changed? I don't know if the policy varies from store to store. I know that they put those stupid paper "protector" strips in the crotch. Are they really supposed to help prevent against disease or the nasty factor? Anyway, here is my dilemma.... JC Penney had some great deals on clearance bathing suits. The store was closing so I was trying to hurry. I only tried one of them on, bought three. I got three because I've had the same bathing suit for the past two years and I'm sick of it. I didn't get a new one this summer and I really needed one...not three really. They are a bit too big and the leopard one just makes me hum "George, George, George of the jungle...friend to you and me..." I guess I thought it would look ok as I really like leopard print, but it doesn't. I feel really weird trying to return these suits...and I'm not even sure I would be able to anyway. I looked up JC Penney return policy online and it mentions nothing about swimsuits. Would you just chalk this one up and call it a loss...or be embarassed and try to return and get your money back? The total amount would be about $32... ~Lisa

I would call first before I made a trip back to see, to see what thier policy was. I would try to talk to someone in that dept and get her name also.

All you can do is try. If there is a law, then it must vary from state to state. I knew someone who worked for Chadwicks---big mail order business-- and her summer job was to change the crotch piece in returned bathing suits. She said is was a gross job but she knew how to sew and it paid well...maybe from the YUK factor.

If the tags are on, you can return the swimsuit....underwear too...at least in my state.

I have returned them to Lands End before. I always try them on with my underwear on because even with that paper thing - ewww - if someone else before you didn't leave their underwear on!

Wink

I personally feel like yuck yuck also and feel they should not be returned and then it makes me think what if I am wearing a bathing suit that was returned, I truly feel for health issues no bathing suits should be allowed to be returned. Peace. Catherine

Have you all thought about the fact that some people do go COMMANDO and may have tried on shorts or jeans in commando mode? There aren't any laws on returning those.

Back in the 80s I worked in a clothing store that sold bathing suits. There was a sign up in the store that said something to the effect of "swimsuits not returnable due to PA state law". Haven't seen anthing like that since. A few years ago I returned a swimsuit to Target. The clerk immediately bagged it up and put it in the "damaged" pile. I have also returned bathing suits to Lands End.

I know many years ago you could not return bras. I was in the store a couple weeks ago without my dd and asked if bras could be returned and she said yes as long as the tags were still on. So I would ask and I bet the answer will be yes.

I have returned bathing suits to Dillards before and nothing was said. I always try on bathing suits with my underwear on and would hope that others do the same. Then it is no different that trying on slacks or shorts.

I work in retail and oh, how I *wish* people would keep their panties on while trying on suits but believe me, they don't. At our store we *do* accept returns of panties and swimsuits but we damage out the panties and the bathing suit bottoms. We also place the sensor *through* the crotch of the panties so that people will have to ask us to remove it if they want to try it on, then we can remind them to try it on over their panties. Sadly, we have to sensor the swimsuits so that they can be tried on - we didn't have anything gross happen this summer but in summers past I've found some really disgusting stuff

That's exactly why you should wash your new swimsuit before you wear it. You have no idea who tried it on in the store before you bought it, or whether or not they left their panties on when they did. And, those little "maxi pad" strips they put in the bottoms really give me no assurance.

Here you can return swimsuits and under garments as long as they still have the tags on.

Yes, the swimsuits were tried on with panties...but no bra. OK, too much information here as my kids would say! Anyway, I did take them back last night. It was no problem at all. The tags and protective strip were still in there. I don't think that I would have returned them if I had removed the tags. I felt funny enough as it was. I looked at the bathing suits again...I saw a few that I liked...I tried on three of them (not rushing this time), and ended up leaving with nothing. Some of the bathing suits left were really cute, but didn't look right on my 45 year old fat stretch marked size 12 body. I like the tankinis...but the only one I saw that I liked was a brown one...and I have a one piece brown bathing suit that's similiar...I just decided to save my money. Lesson learned though...to be 100% sure when buying a swimsuit again...try it on and take my time! Haste makes waste...and when in doubt, don't as my mother always said! This mantra works! ~Lisa

This is me as well. I usually buy 3 suits (tops and bottoms), take them home and try them on with underwear to see what I like. I have never had a problem taking them back as long as tags are on them. What's the difference if I try them at home or in the store? Same ick factor. Plus, you wash them before you wear them. All clothes/items you can try on have "ick" factor.
