Unhappy I am so upset someone was stealing items from our local aids hospice center

I have 2 local aids hospice homes that I and alot of family and friends donate all the time. We donate all sorts of items. We normally go around and ask the people for any special items especially food or health and beauty items they can use. I have been doing this for years, years before my brother passed away from aids. Anyhow I went there today to drop off some bags, I do very well with the triple coupons so I can offer to get most of what they can use. So I walk into the place and one of the head nurses, tells me there is a man there who has not been working too long, he is from the maintence department. Anyhow they have been noticing items from food, to clothes to personal items and money missing. The have camera's and have been watching him for some time. Well late last nite he took so much stuff. I am sick with my stomach, how in the world could anyone do this to these people who only have a short time to live. The depend on us people to help them. Many of the patients have no family or money support at all. Anyway they called the cops he was arrested and hopefully will receive some jail time. What is the world coming too . Thanks for listening. Peace to all. Catherine

Catherine you are to be commended for your good works. What he did was wrong and he should be punished heavily for what he did.

He should be punished but I would want to know why he was stealing food. If he is truely hungry I would leave a bag for him too if you could. I hope he was just in need and not able to ask for help not the monster he seems...

That being said there was a guy here recently arested who worked at Grady hospital ( the only indigent hospital in the area)and was stealing jewelry from the accident victims. It sounds like he targeted the dead and dying. Sick man. I hope he gets what he deserves.

Even if he needed it, that is no excuse for stealing it. There are places he could go, food banks, church food pantrys, Salvation Army, etc to get stuff for those in need without having to steal it from somebody else who really needs it.

I had an incident like this happen (much smaller scale though) one year when I was doing my church's toy and food drive, a couple of gifts for a particular family came up stolen, I was pretty sure that I knew that it was a kid that stole the gifts and that was confirmed the next Sunday when his sister came to church with the items. The funny thing was the items were purcased for this kids older sister to begin with, so he didn't have to steal them, they were going to be hers anyway. I know she didn't take them, because she didn't come to church that Sunday.

When my Sister died someone stole her wedding rings . Why would anyone do such a terrible thing to someone that just passed away ???.. Knowing how caring my sister was she would have given them to the person.

Ilovelucy,
This is terrible. Glad he was caught.

Unhappy

He really one stole a few food items, what he really was taking was body wash and shampoo and deodorant, he was also stealing clothes that we all used to and still do puchase at garage sales. There is one man there is name is Henry he is pretty bad however he used to wear this favorite sweater one of my friends purchased for him. It truly was not alot of money, but it was Henry's favorite and it was all shades of brown. It was missing for some time now and when the cops searched his car, they found the sweater, I took it home and I am cleaning it , and will bring back to Henry. Inside his trunk alone he had so many personal items. Now as far as food all he had to do was ask even if he needed some clothes. However he makes a decent salary, so there was no excuse. When the cops confronted him and asked him why, he said those people meaning the patients have enough, not a good enough answer for me. So i will update and let you all know what will happen to him. They said they were going to search his home. The reason is because alot of personal items were missing, and all the clothes had the patients names printed on the labels. A true sad story. Peace to all . Catherine

A good friend of mine once said "how can someone enjoy something knowing that they stole it????" While I agree, I also believe that a person has to have a conscious to really care, and many people that steal do NOT.

I'm sure if this man was truely in need if he would have ASKED, someone at your hospice would have given him some things or directed him to other charities that could help him.

I know of a woman worth, literally, hundreds of millions and she stole drugs from a charity she started. Classy, huh? Sometimes it doesn't matter how much or or little you have, it's all about your character, or lack thereof.

Yes, anyone who uses drugs--be it prescription or street--definitely has some character issues.

People steal for a variety of reasons. No reason justifies it, but, stealing doesn't always indicate a character flaw. Could indicate a mental illness, could indicate desperation....

Sounds like this guy is just a thief, for the sake of being a thief.

Sad story. During the holidays, they had someone steal toys for needy children from the Toys for Tots. What is the world coming to? ~Lisa

My Mother's next door neighbor whom she has known for YEARS (Nearly 30 years ) Stole a tub of lipstick from a drugstore. When they searched her purse she had over 600.00, When asked why she stole rather than pay, She told them and my mother ( after she got out of jail). She didn't want to pay the 'sticker" price she thought is was too high !!.. Guess her court cost, lawyer and jail time was less than the 5.99 for the lipstick. BTW, This lady was in her late 50's early 60's when she did this. NO mental issues not even now.

Red face

This guy who stole all the stuff was only working at the aids hospice home for a short while. Like I said he was getting paid and did not have a look that would have told us he needed anything, not that we could really tell. He was kinda quite and seemed polite, and if he did need anything we do get many donations of all sorts of things, truly all he had to do was ask , we could have given him somethings, not alot, because these items were donated for the patients, but to just steal was so hurtful. Thanks all for listening. Peace. Catherine

Catherine, that is quite disturbing. I have often said, that if someone took items, then they needed it more than I did. But it doesn't sound like this is so, in this situation. I'm sorry that there is someone out there like this-what a turd! Lynne
