SO how did you feel when your last child went off to Kindergarten?

Can you believe mine don't start until tomorrow!?

I thought I might be sad because it's DD's first day of kindergarten and she's my last, but not yet. I don't think I'll have time to be bored or lonely and I will be able to get so much more DONE without kids in tow, I honestly can't wait! (Isn't that terrible )

I have other friends who say they're going to cry or did, but my kids have been argueing for the last 2 weeks, so I am SO ready to put them on the bus!

What are your emotions like on that first day when you put your last child on the bus?

That's funny! I can't even get to kindergarten I didn't even THINK of college! I changed to the title of the post though.

I was a bit sad, but then I remembered,
He was in kindergarten, and had a brother who was a Sr. in high school, and two in between. Man, I was tired. By my math, between the four kids, and their age spans, we will be spending 25 years in the public school system. That is a lot of years of PTA, and I cannot count how many years being room mom. I loved when Patrick was in kindergarden, I was by far the youngest mom. Now....I am of the upper echelon of ages (doesn't that sound much better than being the oldest mom?) One off to college now, so one down, three to go....Ok, so that's what I say out loud, but I still can't believe the time has passed so fast.

It didn't bother me too much - 1st grade was a little harder when lunchtime rolled around and my lunch partner was eating at school...but I was over it in a couple days.

This year my baby is in 6th grade and in middle school. After 9 years of being totally involved in elementary school I'm ready to wan out of the volunteer mode and into something else. I've loved every minute of it, done everything I wanted, have no regrets and am ready to move on!

I'm not on my last one yet, that will be next year........5 of the 6 are in school this year, and our new kindergartener loves school just doesn't like going to school, she cries, cries, cries. It's nice for me, to spend time with youngest DD, that we never had before, but I'm really ready for them to be in school. I daydream, about going through at least 7 hours of no one saying "Mom" "Mom" "Mom"........

My DD went to Pre-K ( she's in 1st this year) when she was just 32 days over her 4th birthday. On her 1st day to school I was a wreck !.I stood in the classroom with her teacher telling me it was ok to leave her she would be fine ( I THINK NOT THATS MY BABY LOL ).After all but being thrown out of the classroom I sat in my van for over an hr just watching the building she was in.I have never cried so much when any of my kids started school as I did that day. I felt so alone, I couldn't even bring myself to the point of going home to a empty house. That after noon I arrived her her school an hr before they were to let out and I was the 1st to enter the room ( Hey had to make sure all her arms and legs were still there don't ya know ). Now of course that as then and this is now.

On the 1st day of school after having what seemed to be the longest summer in history. nothing but fighting between my 4 kids I was like GET OUT GO ON TO THE BUS STOP ! Don't you dare miss the bus LOL.( Just kidding ). But I was so ready for school to start this year.

Believe me I too was glad to have my "peaceful days' once again.

When my last child went off to kindergarten I was a little sad, but got over it real quick! That year was great because it was the only time that I had all three of them in the same school...5th, 2nd, and K. It was so nice having them all together there. I enjoyed having some time to myself with all three of them "gone". Now I'm just wondering how I'm going to handle sending my oldest off to college next year. He's a senior and I'm already acting like a basket case. On one hand I'm glad that he's independent and looks forward to spreading his wings a bit. On the other hand, I know that we're all going to miss him terribly. He's so funny and we're going to miss his practical jokes around here. It's hard letting go...no matter what age they are. ~Lisa

I was sad also. They grow up so fast. When they are babies you have the big dreams for them, but they seem so far away. But those days go by in a flash. My baby is now 20 yrs old. And in college, she still lives at home and I argue with her all the time over everything.. Because you know she KNOWS everything. But when the day comes she leaves and goes out on her own is gonna be the hardest for me.
It was much easier with my oldest.

Other: Excited and Proud.

(All the other options seem to imply Mom home alone happy or sad about it and that shoe doesn't fit)

I guess it's all how you read into it? They could each mean a number of things, staying home has nothing to do with it really.

I would feel just as excited about her going (my first choice) because then I wouldn't have to pay for daycare anymore.

Or I could be sad that it's my last child and I;m getting old.

Same with the crying choice, I think that is a normal response, working or not?

None of these choices has anything do do with being home, but that is why the last choice of "other" is there, there's no way I could fit everyone's feelings in the choices?

Honestly, sending my youngest off to kindergarten a few weeks ago (we start school in early August), was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be (for me, not him -- he was ready last year, but not old enough).

The first few days, I just didn't know what to do with myself. I had all this 'free time' and just didn't know what to do with it. Once I got over that (only took a few days), I'm busier than ever and there is *still* not enough time in the day to get everything done!

She was thrilled. I was sad b/c she's my baby, but happy b/c I need the break.

I guess I was happy and excited.....I am happy to see my kids growing up, and every year on their birthday I recant events surrounding their birth.....they love that. I like the milestones, and cherish having them in my life.

ok that was kind of sappy, huh???

Once again, in the minority!! I had a very hard time when my youngest daughter stared school. It was hard enough to leave her, then I had to come home and look at her room!! I can only imagine how hard it will be when my angel baby boy starts school!! He's 2 now, and it breaks my heart now to take him to school on the 3 days I have to work. I don't know why exactly, but I keep my babies very close to me!! They grow up so fast!!!

When I got home from dropping DS1 off at college, I actually slept in his bed the first night! Gosh, I miss him!

I think it's a little easier for me b/c when dh and I met, I already had my (now our) son. So we've NEVER been without kids or had extended amounts of time w/o them. In the past 13 years, we've only been w/o them 9 days total. In 13 YEARS. So while it's sad for me, I also can't wait till they're all OUT of here so we can have our own time together as husband and wife.
